      @@friend_trilobot Yes, I agree with...
It's very individual what leads someone to think they way they do, but from what I've seen the most vocal transphobes, aren't really smart people... they just pretend to be.
They might have been brought up in a way that led to them being hateful, or maybe it's their lack of information on the topic... but often, they just seem to think they're a whole lot smarter than they actually are and that they've cracked some kind of code, which makes them unwilling to listen and learn from other people...
You can be uneducated and have a very low IQ or whatever else one might use to measure how smart someone is, but the people who really are dumb, are the ones who shut their ears and refuse to learn.

There could be a few reasons for this -
      1. They're bigots and just want to invalidate people's pronouns and enby / NB / non-binary people in general.
      2. They're stupid and straight up forgot somehow that it's actually really flipping normal to use singular they in sentence structure quite literally ALL the time.
      3. They're bigots AND stupid. (A very likely option, let's be real.)
      4. The parents seriously underestimate the intelligence of their child. I don't know why so many adults straight-up think that younger people aren't intelligent, because they actually are usually very intelligent and perceptive. Maybe less "experienced" in life shenanigans in general, but that says nothing of their actual intellectual skills. I wish parents and adults in general would stop thinking of younger folks as being lesser or having less of a brain or some such. It's really weird AND rude AND dehumanizing to younger folks! (I say this as someone who's 29!)

There was a nonbinary minor character in an audio book me and my family listened to this summer on a road trip and both my parents were so confused when they kept being referred to as ‘they’. My mom asked if the character was supposed to be multiple people in the same body (it was a futuristic sci-fi story so it’s not as bad a guess as it could have been). To be fair to my parents though, English is not our mother tongue and they don’t hang out on the internet enough to know much about the later bits of the alphabet mafia. That said, it was actually great as it opened up a discussion where me and my sister could explain and at least nudge them in the direction that gender and sexuality are best viewed as spectra rather than either this or that.

    • @KingdomEllipsis

I don't know what language is your original but some languages actually do have gendered terms, so I could see language barrier being an actual legitimate issue to understanding. I'm glad you got to open up a discussion about it though, hopefully they understand more now and were receptive to learning about gender/sexuality as being a spectrum! :D

“You are saying he too! *He’ll* be just as offended by you as *he* is by me”

@@mxerror404 In this context, a multiplicity is having multiple personalities inside one head. It’s actually not uncommon.
It’s often confused with DID, but a DID diagnosis is only ever really given when the personalities in the system are in an emotionally volatile state and causing damage to each other or the system, rendering the system dysfunctional (the treatment involves working to create a functional system for everyone involved, but does not get rid of any of the alters, hence why it’s not really necessary to get a diagnosis or treatment for a system that’s already healthy and functional. I am part of a medically valid multiplicity, that both my therapist and psychiatrist support, but since there’s no active dysfunction within it they saw no reason to give a diagnosis). It was fairly recently, and it’s definitely my favorite moment in my life. I was almost breaking down trying to tell her because I was so scared, I was terrified I was going to lose her forever. But when I finally managed to get the words out, she hugged me. She hugged me, and she calmed me down, and she just talked. She told me I was valid, and that she would never stop supporting me, no matter who I was. After I calmed down, she made a joke about my grandpa. She knew he would he supportive as well, and made a joke about how he’d probably he excited since he’d have a grandchild that wasn’t a girl. (I’m trans masc. non binary). After a while, when I told her I was worried about telling my parents, she offered to buy me pride flags to use to help me bring it up and come out. After I brought up my fear of them being transphobic, she said that, if need be, I could come stay with them (my grandparents). She then said ‘and if your father isn’t supportive you tell me and I’ll give him a whack on the head, and remind him we didn’t raise him like that! And that he better be supportive or he’s lost a child, because he’s lost a daughter either way!’
It was the best day of my life, hands down❤️

Anyway), so i corrected susan going "you mean sister" and she was like "no the sister was xyz" (talking about the other transwoman sibling). They also said "transphobic is another word for normal" and I replied "Even if it was, normal can also be used to mean boring" and that they don't want to be called transphobiy, which was followed by a "stop being transphobic then" from someone else.

I mean it's great that the community have some accidental allies, even if they don't mean what they say. I guess someone being stupid is helpful in it's own way. As a cis person (though I educated myself on the difference) the way you said 'trans and cis are just adjectives' really helped me understand this (not that I ever thought trans-men were women or vice versa). Also, I find it weird that transphobes/homophobes can't stand using they\them pronouns as they is a word for plural things yet they can get so confused and use 'women' for one person, which isn't even grammatically correct! This is my second time watching this video (these are good videos!) and I realised at 5:29 the transphobe was talking about Summer Luk. I've recently in the past couple of months have found some of her videos and she's really good at making shorts on trans issues so check out her channel too! : ) And finally transphobes, please gain some knowledge and get educated.

Jamie, I don't think it's likely you'll read this but on the off chance you might, I want to thank you so much for your amazing channel! I discovered you recently and, please don't laugh, I first mistook you for a very cute cis queer boy who was pursuing bold trans allyship and it took, like three or more videos of yours before I recognized you were, in fact, a very cute queer boy. Yours is the very first channel I've subbed to run by a trans man, which is a relief frankly bc trans women were becoming increasingly over represented in my youtube feed between Contrapoints, Philosophy Tube, and Kat Blaque, among a handful of others it was starting to feel a bit strange. So thank you for helping to restore balance to my universe! I find your content inspiring and often hilarious, and I love it. So thanks again and cheers. Also, if anyone out there could recommend more channels by trans creators to me I would very much appreciate it. (Searching for creators by identity seems a bit gauche in a way that asking for recommendations doesn't quite, idk if that's valid exactly but it is how I feel) Thanks, keep shining!

There’s something about these “accidental allies” that really rubs me the wrong way. Besides yknow, the obvious lol. I think it’s how, despite the jokes we make about them misusing our language, theyre really trying to, intentionally or not, take our language away, redefine our own terms meant to validate us to instead invalidate us. The idea of someone calling me a “trans man” feels really awful because it’s taking my trans identifier that I’m proud of and it’s twisting it on me, turning it into a word that means I’m delusionally trying to be something else. I think the best response is what this video does, to reinforce that our language is real and these people are just incorrect.

When I first learned the term trans I was so confused... so I would never hate anyone on the confusion. I was thinking they are transitioning and then I got confused if they are transitioning from or to (like it was short form of "transitioning from a man" or "transitioning to a man"). Yes, I was incorrect but I never meant to be hurtful, if I ever made a mistake. I just always thought that if you had transitioned socially, and now living as your preferred gender you would not need to stress the addition "trans" anymore. I hope it comes across correctly (English is not my native language).
So, yes, hate transphobes :) But not everyone who might get it mixed up might be a transphobe.

    Hi Jamie!
As far as I get your content, your view on gender is very scientifical.
I'm reading up on it myself, but found very few contents on genderfluidity (I'm still looking for that and thankful for any recommendations).
Still, mostly, what I found was confirming that it is possible to be androgynous and that there is no reason to assume that a connection to more than one gender wouldn't make sense, as usually every person has male and female characteristics - as we (the nonbinary community) like to say: "Gender is a spectrum".
Still, in videos like this, you keep emphasizing that a changing gender wouldn't be possible ("Girls can't become boys/Boys can't become girls" etc.) or that a person wouldn't have a connection to multiple genders ("Men can't be women" etc.).
First, I assumed you just didn't think these kinds of statements through, but I'm starting to get worried, since this is not the first video in which you do that.
Can you please explain your stance on this? I'm trying to understand myself and the way gender even works, things like this are so important to me. It would mean a lot.

Heh, this is kinda a double-dip trans allies thing.
Backstory to the backstory for those who don't know- the scene is actually opposite to the way the meme is usually used. The things presented _are_ the same thing, and the person presenting the picture (In this meme, the woman captioned as "Science and nature") even says there are at least seven differences to the other character- before hard-cutting to a different scene to say to the viewer that they are the same picture, as the character (if I remember right) wastes time and is basically distracted trying to find the seven differences. He even says "I already see one- give them to me"
So science and nature are challenging telling transphobes to find the difference between a trans woman and a woman- but fully knows there aren't any.
Then again there is the chance they're using it the normal way, and just painting Pam as *the woke fools* etc, but you know. Good fun either way.

    • @ollieno971
      @ollieno971 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Sadly they probably mean it in using Pam as the “woke fool” like you said bc I feel like those type of conservative guys are the type to go “Pam was ruined once she learned how to stand up for herself and not let herself get walked all over.
