Love the video man. You’ve helped me grow in air hockey so much, I don’t know how to thank you enough. Your tutorials are priceless, keep up the great work. Come back and play some more, it would liven the sport again.
I'm still playing! Not at top 10 World level any more, but just below it. Check out the USAA's facebook page or goldstandardairhockey.com for tournament info.
Me and my sister love playing air hockey against each other since I first introduced her to the game when she was 12. At first I played easy on her, the typical guys hitting the puck gently so the girls can return the puck and sometimes pretend to be clumsy and miss. But after a while once my sister becomes familiar with the game, I upped the anti and played aggressive as if I was playing a dude who holds a championship title. Once she got older and stronger, we play so aggressive that sometimes we'd attract spectators because we'd hit the puck so hard at each other that all you can see is a blur on the board and hear the clanking sound loud. My sister got so used to it and pretty at the game, she'd surprise her dates when playing air hockey. She'd keep her skill a secret. When her dates do the gentle hitting moves on her, she'd return them back viciously. Her dates would be like, "Oh ok, it's on now". In the end, my sister wins easily and complains that they are too easy and demands I play her. She enjoys playing vs me because I can play with both hands and I'd constantly switch hands to preserve strength so my hits won't waver. Now my sister is 22 and whenever we see an air hockey table, we'd go play some aggressive matches. Once I get my own house, I'll buy my own air hockey table so we can play until our last breaths on earth.
At USAA World Championships, the women play with the men, but the top-finishing woman is recognized as Women's Champion. There are some very good female players, but - who knows - with practice maybe your sister could become the Women's Champion! I'm 6-6-1 in air hockey at my local hockey arena (they have a corner full of courts and stuff) and I do casting cut all the time naturally because it wins games
The next USAA-sanctioned World Championship is in Colorado Springs, CO, July 26-28, 2019. All players welcome. Go to tinyurl.com/AHPA2019WC or facebook.com/groups/2186151388283290/ for more info.
The best mallets available are commercial grade, designed for USAA-sanctioned tables. My company Gold Standard Games produces mallets like these (available at recrooms.com), and the Dynamo ones are virtually identical. Durable, no felt on bottom, relatively low-noise, with a balance of hard enough to put speed on the puck but not too hard to where the puck flies off the table. We also offer a specialty flat mallet (same material) for serious players who prefer that. Most tournament players use a high-top, as I do.
My little brother once threw the striker out, hit the puck as it passed over the center and scored. Obviously throwing your striker is a HUGE gamble and probably definitely illegal, but you've got to admit it's a stroke of mad genius.
The 1-2 took a few takes to get perfect - it's a hard shot to execute, especially if you're not in great practice or not in the midst of a competition. But the casting cut, and the moving puck chase shot - those I can hit accurately pretty much every time. Just ask the players I use them against. :)
Why am I watching this in the middle of the night, I dont even play air hockey.
never too late to start
Dude same here!!! Wtf
Lol I just got a table and it's super fun
The casting cut shot won me my local tournament
Mark Robbins is a personal hero of mine!
1:31 leg movement on point
I learned the 1-2 and casting shot from playing Mark in the 80s. He always got me with the chase shot ! Thanks for the video .
1:30 his eye hand coordination for watching and timing the puck is ridiculous.
What am I fucking doing with my life

I remember accidentally sending the puck out of the movie arcade XD
I’m getting a air hockey table this Christmas and I’m looking forward to learning the sport:
I didn't knew it was a professional sports...
It becomes professional has soon as you put a glove on.

What type of mallet do you recommend

Easy to do that crap when you can cut out the bad shots on camera
