Ironically, John Newton played Superboy in the first season of his tv show in the late 80's. The show wasn't allowed to use the name "Superman," though. In later seasons, when Superboy was recast as Gerard Christopher, there's an episode with a version of him from an alternate universe where he's considerably older. The other version just says about the future: "you won't be SuperBOY any more" due to not being able to say Superman (although the title cards for the actor did change... one billed him as Superman, but it was swapped out for one saying older Superboy later). Long rabbit trail... there was a show where this actor played Superboy. This cartoon seems inspired by the Fleischer cartoons, particularly 'The Mechanical Monsters.' Also, the cartoon is notable for being the reason Superman can fly. He could leap tall buildings in a single bound, but not fly. The animation for that was annoying, so the animators got permission for Superman to just stay in the air when he would leap.
HUGE Superman fan who can't stop crying tears of joy watching this amazing piece of animation and sensational story telling! Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts and talent. thank you, thank you, thank you.....
I just wanted to say im a serious fan of your work. The universe you created is absolutely stunning and perfectly embodies the heroism and romanticism of Superman. I check back on TH-cam frequently to see if you've added more episodes. Amazing work, amazing art, and a wonderful tribute to the man of steel. It's inspiring to see someone pursue their passion project with such success.
In recent years, I've had a lot of my fandom and love for the Man of Steel diminished by reboots and the force feeding of dark and gritty, 'super serial and important' BS that's been pushed as the agenda of WB and DC editorial. And then I re-watched this little gem and saw all the things that got me into Superman while boning up on the character for Superman Returns years ago. Your shorts, wonderfully brief as they are, capture all the excitement, fun and humor of the Superman that I've loved since I was a little boy. Bless you Robb. If you ever want to do a Kickstarter or something to create a longer story or pitch a series, you can count on my money.
The Fleischers are still my favorite version of Superman on film. It was nice to bring in a little Christopher Reeve stuff as well as other elements, too!
It's so cool that you got an official superman actor to voice in this! And getting his wife to voice Lois was a stroke of genius! Beautiful animation, I would love to see more!
I would gladly use whataver limited funds I have to kickstart a fund to get a feature length motion picture from you. This is what real love of fans should be and this is the kind of movie I want kids to see in theaters.
Brilliant work on this, short and sweet, classic Superman content. Makes me think of the original animated series episode with the large robots and Lois getting kidnapped
Every month or so I watch your cartoons again. Seriously, I'd pay real money to see them in the theatre before a film. So good. You can feel the love in every second. Thanks for making these and please make more!!!!

Not sure if this was intended, but I sure hope the design of the robot was a nod to the Iron Giant film (and the Iron Giant himself who is a fan of Superman).
They’re a reference to the Mechanical Monsters from the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons from 1941, but they did borrow a few design elements from the Iron Giant such as the body shape and the banded abdomen

I can't even imagine the determination it would take to create a 1 or 2 minute 2D animation that takes over 2000 drawings (that was the figure you used in the other video, I think). after watching them, I wasn't surprised to learn that you worked on feature films for Disney! I've loved Disney ever since I was a kid, thank you so much for these and all your other hard work! I hope you enjoyed making them as much as I love watching them. the original max Fleischer cartoons are incredible, and yours remind me of them with the music and everything, but your drawings have LIFE in their eyes which makes all the difference in any animation. I get that you work for Disney, but I would have loved to see your artistic input in the batman/superman animated series. I guess with these videos, in a way, I have. thank you so much again!!!

My question is (and I feel bad given the tremendous effort you have given) what have you been doing lately? Do you need financial help to continue these mini-masterpieces? Come to think of it, would you be in trouble if you said that you did?
