    Interesting....
    I don't have one yet, but do have the OGS-50 which is half the price & very similar in appearance. With the OGS-50 I have so far used only a very low input of 0.8 watts from a HF Signals bitx-40 I ran on a 9 volts/2amps max vcc. The amp put out about 25 watts at this input.
    I heard that the impedance at the amp's input can create a lot of reflected power depending on frequency, so I am waiting until I see the work around for this issue be updated for my latest version of amp before I use it with my RS 918, or use a method to ascertain exactly what the amp's load impedance is on the frequencies I have resonate antennas for.

    My guess is, even with that chunk of aluminum under the transistors, this thing will overheat if you try to use it on digi modes or even heavy CW use.
    I'll be interested to hear your experiences with the HR50 as well. I bought one of those several years ago and used it for a while, but my experiences weren't that great. It worked fine initially, but I started having failures after a while - relays would die, the little 0603 chip caps would fail, and I had to replace the FET's a couple times. I finally gave up on it. It's a nice idea, but I think that the design isn't derated very well. It doesn't use feedback and loads the output with some fairly large caps to level out the gain on certain bands, which I think leads to large RF currents in the design. It's probably fine if you stick with SSB use.

      At 45W output, no overheating at all

      Very happy with my HR-50, no failures. Have the ATU and the QSK fitted. Plays very nice with the HL2.

      Many times I have used this on digital for hours and no heat issues.

    Yes, like I said earlier, it is touchy to a
    drive over 5 watts, so I stay under that
    input level to avoid this problem. 😊

    any ideas of what preamp to use to drive this amp from the hackrf ~5-15dBm output?

    what is the lowest power output with this amplifier. I need something that will do 10 Watts out to use as a driver for another amplifier. I'm loving the hermes.

    Matt, the big q is, buy this or save a bit more for a more established amp? Is there much internal difference to the previous?

      I'm currently building the Hardrock 50 amplifier which I am recording for an upcoming video. So might be worth hanging on for that. Or if you need a slightly more powerful amp then the Xiegu 125b is a really good 100 Watt amp with built in ATU. I know some people have had problems with the 125b, but I have owned 3 of them and they all worked great!

    I wonder if there is a 50W level amp to pair with the Hermes that allows remote control. I am mounting my Hermes Lite 2 remotely.

    SWR showing HI is probable due to the meter. It's difficult to measure SWR on low power levels.

    Update firmware to 2.8 You have 2.5 new software is better, works grate

  • @raymondmartin6737
    @raymondmartin6737 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have the original which is sensitive to
    use, such if the SWR is over 2:1, and it
    makes quite a noise. Also if the exciter
    drive is high enough to go over 50 watt
    limit, from my Yaesu FT818ND, and with the ATM-100 tuner. So it is not too
    easy to balance all three, but it does
    work. 73 de W2CH Ray New Hampshire. 😊

    My PA 50+ does not work on 30m or 15m. Says "BYP" in the upper right. Is running 2.8.5. Anyone else experience this or have a fix?

    • @pnwgeek
      @pnwgeek 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I figured it out. There is a multi-click option that is missing from every manual I can find, that is for "30/15m Open/Close". This comes up after 8 clicks. Do the 8 clicks until it says "open". Then power the amp off and back on. This seems to enable/disable 30m and 15m operation. Same as for the 7 click menu option for "17m/15m SWR On/Off". No mention in the manuals, but turns the SWR meter on and off for 17 and 15m (no power cycle needed).

    I just have the regular 50 version, and the fan is so loud i quit using it

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeh the fan was constantly on when I was transmitting, dont think it was picked up on my mic though and the amp was around 2 feet away from my mic. So i dont think this is that bad on this model.

    Hi Mat
    I am searching for a relatively cheap SDR transceiver solution and find the Hermes Lite 2.0 interresting. Do you know about newer and better SDR transveivers in this small size catagori?

      Thank you for the information. Is there other cheap SDR transceiver alternatives around having the necessary band filters?

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bjarkekorsgaard Hermes Lite 2 is the best solution at the moment. You could try the Radioberry but it needs filters. With the HL2, you can buy the filer board and have a fully working 5 watt sdr
