In all honesty, it's really just my personal taste. My mother always said that hand stitching one's hems looked nicer on the final product than a machine stitch, but I think that's a dated opinion, going back to the days before people had sewing machines readily available. These days, people are used to the look of a machine stitch. So you have a good point, Randy.

Why whipstitch rather than a neat clean machine stitch?
