- PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME SPECIFICS OF THIS PATTERN. My tutorial is NOT meant to be a substitute to purchasing the $5 pattern.
This is a quick video to show how to start off the Sophie Scarf by Petite knit. I’m a little late to the Sophie Scarf game, but I’ve really enjoyed knitting three of them and wearing them. I struggled in the beginning and just hope that this video helps out anyone else starting this scarf who needs the visual. You can find the link to the scarf to purchase here on Ravelry.

This is so incredibly helpful! I paid for the pattern this morning and realized I was too much of a novice to follow it. This video means I didn't waste my money. Thank you!
I LOVE that my video has helped in some way. I’ve been knitting for 16-17 years and I STILL feel like a novice. 😅 This really makes my day, thank you.
Awww I mean it! I'm so appreciative! @@TheGingerNinjaJournals
Exactly the same for me. I bought the pattern this morning after I watched this tutorial. Thank you so much.
I can’t tell you the number of patterns I have bought and found out I hate the stitch or something about the pattern, what a waste.

I am French, bought the Sophie’s scarf pdf tutorial (in French - obviously (!). Did not understand a thing. Watched your tutorial (in English - obviously (!) and everything is now sooo clear and looks pretty easy. Now I can finally knit my first Sophie’s scarf…thanks to you!
Merci, Merci, Merci!!!
Thank you so much! Finally I get it. I can't tell you how many times I frogged it and was regretting buying the pattern.
I’m so glad I was able to help. That makes my day. 😁
❤
I had almost given up as well until I found this video
Thank you so much for this very helpfull video 🌺🌸🌺
I’m a newbie knitter also and realized I wasn’t experienced enough to figure this out. Your video has been extremely helpful - thank you!
Please more knitting tutorials like this! You explained it very well! Very helpful for beginners like me ❤
Thank you for this easy to follow video! I watched it through once, and now I'm going to watch it again and try to follow along. I have knit really basic scarves, so this explanation is great for me. I bought the pattern, but I don't know how to "read" patterns so watching this really helps.
Thank you so much for this great explanation and for the demonstration! I am not an absolute beginner knitter anymore and I bought this pattern feeling very confident that I could do this, but I could not figure out how to make the increases. Now this is not a problem anymore.
Thank you, bought the pattern months back but could not figure out how to knit. Now I think I will try again. Thanks so much!!
me too! that video was very helpful and im going to give it another try! would love to see the decreasing and how to knit the end in another video as i'm still a beginner.
Will do.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, it was very clear and really helpful. I bought the pattern and had started it but I didn't put together in my mind that it was an I-cord edge. I have knitted an I-cord for a tie but not done an edge. Very happy to find this!!
This was so so helpful - thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to make the Sophie Scarf but could not figure out how to get it started. ❤
Thank you so much for this video. I am a novice knitter. My friend got me starter last spring and I did two scarves. When I started again this week I was lost on the increase stitch. You showed me very clearly how to increase.❤❤🎉
Thank you! I too bought the pattern and had no idea how to begin! I appreciate this video so much!
So helpful. Thank you so much! I am a very begginer knitter ... You made me buy the pattern because now I feel confident!
Just read the pattern and wondered how on earth this was going to work but your tutorial now makes it make perfect sense! Thank you!
Bless you. I was so sure I was doing something wrong and was on the way to destroying my yarn by repeatedly ripping back. I so appreciate your tutorial.
Thankyou Soo much. I bought the pattern 8mths ago but couldn't complete the pattern, now I can ...😊
omg thank u sm!!! for some reason the pattern i have for the sophie scarf increases every 6th row but everything you showed has helped me heaps!
I’m currently teaching myself how to knit and I’ve been wanting to make a sophie scarf for a little bit. this video was incredibly helpful. thank you so much!!
Thanks so much for this! As a new knitter I was unsure how to manage the icord with the increases … your instructions are very clear and simple! Petite Knit does have a few videos now but they are subtitled and hard to follow along reading at the same time as watching her knit so I was very happy to find your channel 😊
I wish you lived closer. I just taught myself to knit last week and would love more tutorials from you. I’ve been eyeing this scarf, so thank you for this!
I would love to make more knitting videos. Whatever you are interested in seeing, just let me know and I’ll try to make some. 😁 I’m so glad you picked up knitting. It’s such a great hobby.
Your explanation was bang on. I was looking for a little tutorial to help someone new at I cord edging for her first Sophie Scarf. Bravo to you! I thought you might demonstrate the decreases but I think she knows how to do that. Gratefully yours ❤
I uploaded another video for the decreases. Check it out. 😊
FMtastic! But I don’t see it. 😊
This was a godsend to find; thank you! I was disappointed not to find the decreasing explained. You showed how to do the increases so well, but I will be stuck once I come to the tapering part. I purchased both this and the Sophie Shawl pattern from Ravelry and began the shawl, but made a mistake. I have decided to start over again, but start with the scarf. I'd love to see a Part Two for the decreasing part. I know this is suuuper basic, but I am brand new! I have never decreased. Showing the bind-off would be wonderful too. I don't know if you'd be willing to continue on with a part two. Just showing a couple of decreasing rows. Either way, thanks very much for this one! Incredibly clear and well done. Will follow you for more! PS Just ordered that finger counter!
There’s a second video for the decreasing.
Yes, thank you! I'm not a super experienced knitter and just read the pattern and was like 🙈😱😔 how? This is super helpful.
Extremely helpful. I’m a beginner knitter and I really appreciate you posting this.
Thank you so much. Ive been knitting for a while, but i didnt find the pattern to be very easy to follow 😅 was not sure if to keep the yarn in front or in the back, as well as the knitting in the middle.. all clear now! Thanks
Thank you! I’ve had the pattern but couldn’t quite figure out how to start. (I haven’t knit anything in years so my skills, if I had any, are rusty). This helps me tremendously..
Thank you so much for this free video tutorial, very helpful for those who first time knit this scarf! 🌼
Thank you lots, this is exactly what I needed as I was somewhat confused by the pattern instructions.
Your tutorial was extremely helpful and timely for me.
Thank you so much, your tutorial made me able to knit the Sophie scarf 🥰 I had the pattern for a long time but impossible to start !
I loved seeing this! Thank you for the excellent tutorial! I have been considering the Sophie scarf for those special skeins. Now I will try one for sure!🎉
I Bought Three Skeins Of A Hot Pink Mohair To Make The Sophie Scarf... Sadly I Haven't Been Able To Purchase The Pattern Yet Because Every Card I Have Declines The Pattern Charge Thinking It's Fraud. 🤷🏽♀️ Because I Google Nearly Everything Knitting, Even Though I've Been Knitty For 20+ Years, I Found This Video Helpful For When I Can Actually Buy The Durn Thing.
You did a really fabulous job of explaining, and demonstrating the icord edging and this pattern.
Thank you.
I’m so glad it helped out.
@@TheGingerNinjaJournals 💕😊
Very clear explanation at a reasonable speed. Thanks.
I’ve made a few Sophie scarf with ease - thanks to your instructional video. Enjoyed the process. Currently been commissioned to knit two more and for some reason both are taking forever to complete. I work on one for a at least 42 rows then switch. 💭Eventually I went up a few sizes in needles.
Did Your Needle Change The Size Drastically Or Did You Just Have An Airy Sophie Scarf? I've Seen So Many Knit Differently, But I Wanted To Use Mohair Held Triple For Mine & Was Wondering If It Would Be Too Dense, And If I Had To Go Up A Needle Size (Or Two) If It Would Be Kinda Sophie Shawl Size? Thanks For Your Input!
I suspect it was the needle size and tension.
Thank u for this amazing video. Instructions are clear and I can save this video to try make this gorgeous scarf.
When I made this, the increase front and back of stitch made a distortion along the I-cord edge so instead I knit 3 then made a backward loop thumb cast on. It makes a much neater increase.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. It really helped me a lot. I was able to make a Sophie scarf with this tutorial. You did a very nice job with explaining, and showing how to do it. 🤗🧶❤️
Thank you so much for doing this video. I’d never done icord and you made it so easy. I was able to complete about 6-7 inches of the Sophie scarf and tomorrow I’ll be working on it again. Thank you.
Grateful! New Knitter. 😜 I’ve tried three times to knit a Sophie Scarf… This will help.
thank you! this was so helpful even though it's my second time knitting it! Helped a lot seeing the finish product as well!!
Excellent video. Liked & subscribed. You explained it very well. Greetings from Ireland 👍🇮🇪
Please excuse my ignorance. I'm not an experienced knitter. Why, as I 've seen so many do, use double pointed needles rather than the circular as the pattern states? Your video has been so SUPER HELPFUL!! THANK YOU!
I just used them for the video because they were easier to manage when I was filming with a particular camera set up I was using. That’s all. 😊
Thank you so much for your quick response! This was a great help!@@TheGingerNinjaJournals
Can I use a circular needles?
@@admnerysrodriguez4633yes you can.
Girl..... THANK YOU!!
Any chance that you maybe working on the Cumulus Tee ??? 🤞 🤞
P.s. you are a wonderful instructor, you made the Sophie scarf look so easy. 😊
Cumulus Tee. 🤔 Off to look it up. It might be one I can try.
I really appreciated this video. Thank you so much, Claire. This was lovely and so very clear. Im very grateful 🙏 🌱🌳
I have this pattern, and at some point I will begin knitting it! Thank you so much, this will be so helpful!
Great video! I did have to get a row counter to make it easier. Happy knitting!
Yes it really helps. I was previously marking on paper. Too time consuming.
Thank you, I've made 4, but always good to see someone else's work. Could you do a video on the shawl, I had 2 skiens of DK& ran out just before finishing, had to rip out.
I can certainly try!
This is great to watch!! Thank you so much for this amazing demonstration. Can you please do a video on how to bind off 2*2 rib using Italian bind off. I know there are lots of videos on TH-cam about this but no one showed how to do bind off on knit stitches only. I faced this problem in my Sweaterno.21, where there are 4 knit stitches at the bigining then the 2*2 rib starts and ends with the same 4 knit stitches. Your help would be much appreciated!
I’ll try to do that this week. 👍🏻
@@TheGingerNinjaJournals hi! I just wanted to remind you of this.
Great tutorial! A biig Thank you! ❤Finally my work starts to look like the picture.... 😅
Thank you SO much !
I bought the pattern this morning because of seeing your tutorial I dared trying the icord edge and the scarf and it works beautifully 💕
Thank you so much!...ive wanted to knit this so bad ,but i didnt have a clue of what to do..ill give it a go now...!
YAY!! I’m so glad. It really is a fun knit once you get the hang of it and is sure to become a staple in your wardrobe. I’m glad I was able to help.
So glad you demo’d this. Excited to start now! ❤
I was almost ready to give up after many tries 😱 Thanks 😊 😘
You’re so welcome. I’m very glad my video could help out.
VERY helpful! I wouldn’t have gotten this from the knitting pattern provided!
Hi I deleted your reply by mistake, thank you for replying back. I was thinking the yarn I used may not be the right yarn. I will try again with a different yarn and maybe with sport weight also. Please let me know how your next scarf turns out. And thank you for your fabulous tutorial, you have gained a new follower 😀👍
Bonsoir 👋 Mne quel plaisir d'apprendre comment réaliser un petit fichu très bien expliqué, grâce à vous je pourrais le réaliser. Merci ❤️ de tout cœur ❤️ de votre partage ❤️
Thank you for your videos
I am going to make this
You’re a great teacher!!
OMG! FINALLY I UNDERSTAND!! You are such a big help!
Thank you for this tutorial on the the i-cord edging on this scarf. It is going to be so helpful. Great you tube.
Thanks so much. I’m glad it was useful to you.
Thank you so much for this! I did this pattern last year and the only video I could find showing this was in Dutch and it was hard to see what was going on 😭 I wanted to make this again and I needed to refresh my memory and this was so helpful I appreciate it tons!
I’m so glad I was able to help you out. 😄
I knitted one similar to the Sophie scarf, but the one I did is called Kerchief scarf a pattern by Joelle Hoverson.
Yay, thankyou so much for your clear instruction. Confident to do this now 🙂
A perfect video!! Thank you so much, I could never ever have done this without you😂😭
Excellent video! Love, loved❤ it! Thank you, very helpful Ginger!
Very Helpful Video! 💪
I Appreciate Your Help & Time.
I Actually Found An Easier (neater looking) Icord Edge.
But I Might Use This Now That I Understand. Cheers!
That is so generous of you. I’d never have got that without your help. Have you done one for the decrease by any chance? 😆
Omg. So many Thankyous. What a huge help
Thank you for your video, very helpful! Just wonder would I decrease every 8 rounds also. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for clarifying the pattern, I am also a beginner knitter and the pattern was a bit confusing.
I am so glad I found you 😊. I got the pattern and the directions to me were confusing 🫤 the place where I got it said it’s so easy 😕but you explained it so much better thank you ❤.
I was looking for a quick scarf to knit I’ve made so many hitchhiker scarfs. Time to knit something else this will be one of my favorites ❤❤❤
Thanks so much. I’m keeping this so I can make one too. Lol.
Excellent tutorial thank you for sharing
Great video! Just started on my first scarf ❤
Make sure you check out my finishing video if you have any trouble. I’m glad my video could help.
Excellent explained. Thanks so much for sharing ❤
PERFECT tutorial! Thank you so much 💓
Thanks for this tutorial. It was very clear and at apace a beginner can manage.😊
I’m glad it helped!
looks great!
I'm knitting this now and the pattern Dec. says knit 3 St's before slipping the next stitch x
Ur explanation is helpful for me~ Thank you:)
I’ve finished my first sophie scarf and I’m satisfied so much. I’ll try the long version again. Sorry that I can’t show you my work. Thanks again:)
Thanks for sharing this!
Have used many times!!!!
Thank you very much for this!!!!
I really appreciate it
The row counter helped me
If you cast on the 6 stitches tight together you will get a firm, narrow and round start on the scarf🙂
Thank you !👏🏽So super explained 😜Now I will get going 💪🏽💃🏼!
Thank you so much for showing how to knit this pattern, just one question how about the decreases? Is it every 8 rows too
So incredibly helpful- thank you!!
So helpful. Thank you
Thank you so much!!! very helpful and precise 😭❤️
¡Muy bien explicada! Muchas gracias por compartir este conocimiento de la bufanda o Sophie Shawl. #FromArgentina
Well that's cool! Will be trying that.
Thank you for the helpful guide! :)
Hello, and thanks for vid. I’ve done three so far but I’m suddenly running into challenges with the next. Was on row three and noticed the yarn was left in front (oppose to the back). I’m squeamish about fixing or tinking stitches without a more experienced knitter nearby.
I completely understand your squeamish-ness. 😂 There’s a project I’d like to do with techniques new to me and I wish I knew another knitter in real life that I could just knit with so I wouldn’t feel so intimidated and alone in it. My local yarn store is an hour away, so I can’t just run there for help. I suggest bravely facing the frog and watch some “Tink” videos and trying. The worst that could happen is that you’d start over. I dropped a few stitches when I was doing my scarves and it was so frustrating, but after after you get into the groove it’s not so intimidating. Good luck to you and I appreciate you watching my video and commenting. It helps my channel a lot.
@@TheGingerNinjaJournalsthanks a bunch for your reply. I frequent local knit/crochet groups in my area. Some meet on Zoom (since the 🦠), libraries, malls and community centers. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
Thank you 👍
I purchased the pattern and thought I was doing it wrong, thanks!
I’m glad my video helped out.
Thank you very much for the explanation. Very helpful.
More please. Thank you!
I just gave up on it. I was knitting it as a gift to my daughter for dog mom's day and I got so frustrated. It was keeping track of the rows for me. What is the point of having a row counter on when you can't remember to click on it because you're not used to using one. Totally killed this project for me.
A chain row counter might help you. Each time you begin a new row you have to pass the chain from the lift needle to the right.
Thank you, I’ve done an I-cord as a tie or top if a hat but never for an edging. I was having difficulty getting started and your video was very helpful! (My (purchased) pattern says the 6th row. Did I misread the pattern?)
Very helpful❤
Your videos are so helpful thank you. However, I'm definitely doing sth wrong. My stitches are way over 33, which is the total number of the large scarf, and I have more rows to knit. It's like they're increasing in every row. I have no holes, everything looks perfect but I'm not even halfway. I'm desperate for help. Wish I could upload a photo of it. 😩
Send a photo to my email and I’ll see if I can help out. cmasamailbox@gmail.com 😊
@@TheGingerNinjaJournals thank you thank you!!! Merry Christmas 🎄

@@TheGingerNinjaJournals hello☺️ I found the problem. I did sth wrong with the yarn in the last three stitches so I undid the whole scarf and I'll try again. Thank you again
