Interesting idea. I am pretty picky about who I follow and what shows up in my sub feed, but I'll give it a try and see what this is all about. It reminds me of the early days of retro gaming internet video sites (like RetrowareTV) where there were user submission sections, except now everything will be on a singular TH-cam channel. Best of luck, I hope it works out!
I subbed to this channel for two reasons...my love of Shmups and the charismatic way you present them. I had noticed the output was dwindling from this channel and was worried about the health of the creator, but glad to see high quality content will continue in the future. Wishing you all the best.
Thank you for everything you have done. Your Cotton Reboot video was the first one I saw, and I happily jumped into the rabbit hole from there. The next evolution of the channel will be interesting to see. BTW, one mannerism I took from you is when you explain Dominating The Screen with the handslap. your tutorials have helped other I know as well. Thank you again.
You're very welcome man, and thank you for supporting the new idea. I know not everyone will be on board, but I love the idea of helping spotlight so many other passionate players and creators in the community. I'm excited to do our best and make this work.
Thanks! And yes I'm excited too. Not going in with unrealistic expectations, but at least the intention to give it our best shot and grow it into something people will continue to look forward to.
Here's a free video idea for the channel or anyone who wishes to contribute to Shmup Junkies: A review on the OVA 'Salamander' (1988), which is an anime adaptation of the NES shmup game 'Life Force' (known as 'Salamander' in Japan) that is in the same universe as 'Gradius'.
Bittersweet video! Your videos are so joyful and resonate so much with me and many others. To any (indie) shmup dev: having seen the positive effect of ShmupJunkie shining a spotlight on our game (Schildmaid MX) I would urge anyone to take the man up on his generous offer to host great video content you can produce, with or without help. As we've experienced in the pasty year or so, marketing a 2D shooter is hooaarrd. There aren't very many outlets that are interested in giving you the time of day. Even in the indie sphere, people just prefer to cover platformers, roguelites, metroidvanias, roguelite metroidvania platformers or anything other than shoot 'em ups, really. So getting tens of thousands of eyes on your game, from people who are already interested in the genre in the fist place is a massive deal.
I appreciate you, Junk. I appreciate the time, pain and everything you've done to make your channel entertaining. I wish you and this channel nothing but success. Thank you
Thanks for an incredible run of awesome content and the time and passion you've put into it.Thanks to you and others the shmup scene is in a much healthier place than it was when this channel began imho.I think the future looks bright and there's a ton of great gamesout there that deserve way more exposure so Im on board to check the content out. So close to 50K subs! I came to the channel after a few months as I have been very ill and I am a little disappointed but I understand. I can confidently say we ALL truly appreciate you. Thank you and best luck with whatever you do!
@@teddym2808 thank you. 🙏 I’m currently busy working on the Toaplan documentary which is partly why I don’t have time to make videos right now. Came here just to say thank you, thank you so much for the awesome content you made over the years and the sheer passion you showed for the genre in all of them. Your channel definitely helped me discover some games that ended up as personal favorites of mine as well as revisiting and appreciating more others that I already knew. I'm definitely looking forward to the new direction this channel is taking.
I mostly watch this channel to see which shooter games I should play. I have a full MAME romset among others. It’s too many to play them all, so I need a best of lists. I hope this channel focuses on obscure top tier shooters still at least
I love this channel and rarely step up to speak a few words. My thoughts on this one are conflicted. On paper, this sounds like a brillant idea. But there is conflict potential especially when it comes to content copyright and money/revenue, and, trust me, this will be an upcoming problem. Most of your subs are here for your content, of course everyone has to respect your decision. But I think there is too much room for problems behind this idea. If it works out in the end I will be glad to revise my concerns.
Pretty new to the channel but slowly going through the back catalogue of videos and some have become my favourite videos on TH-cam! Hopefully one day you'll find time to make that every Saturn shooter vid 🤞
I love your content and always looked forward to new videos you posted. I really hope there are people who submit content to you so the channel can keep going.
Thanks! And yes, we already have people jumping on board and excited to contribute. And of course I will still contribute while doing my best to get others involved in what I'm working on.
I genuinely give thanks to you and The Electric Underground. I discovered your content a month ago, and his around the same time while watching the Xbox 360 episode of your most brutal shmup series. Before then I had just got Raiden IV during Golden Week sale, and It seemed my sweet tooth for shooters was really pecking after well over a decade and some change. I hopped on TH-cam on the big screen during my spare time, searched, and the rest was history. Slowly but surely building up the collection with Dangun Feveron, Battle Garegga, Strikers 1945 collection, and with more in the mere future such as Gunbird. The 101 vids helped me get a fret for shmuping in style. So hyped for the next big step, im sure its going to have plenty of high scores to go around. Smoke em while you got em yo. 😎🤝 have a good one.
Your positivity and energy are what drove me to your channel (and got me playing more shooters), and I love the idea of finding other creators who share that ethos to further expand that community. While I'll miss your singular voice, I think this is a great idea for a step forward. I hope that this will give you a little more breathing space in terms of free time, and I look forward to seeing the sort of work that gets shared here! Thanks for everything, Junkie. I'm excited to see what's to come!
Bro your channel has inspired me with your passion for shmups, and some of your videos have improved (slightly) how I play them. I like communities of positive people passionate about playing games, of course I'm gonna stick around, no question.
This is a very interesting idea to put into action. I was already willing to wait for a long time for new videos from you because your videos are always interesting to watch, but I think that being able to let other use your channel to have their content showcased. I hope everyone that makes content for the channel is able to make them like you do quality and subject wise, because your videos along side Bullet Heaven are what have gotten me interesting in this genre, and I know that there are people out there that help to continue to do much the same.
You've done an amazing job so far my dude and turning it over the community is a really cool idea. Looking forward to seeing what's next. My channel's never gained any traction, but I'm not sure if I have the means to keep content going anyway. Still debating that. Great job man!
You helped me nurture my newfound love of shmups. Thank you. I look forward to seeing where this goes. Maybe we'll all find some new favorite creators!
I want to say thank you for the content and contributions you've done for the shmup community. Your videos brighten up my day when I need to remind myself when passionate people bring their love of something in the best way possible can inspire others. Your shoot 'em up tips videos has also helped me helped improved my skills as a very rookie shoot 'em up player (if I'm being honest about myself) to make some noticeable progress in playing some more challenging shooters. I wish the best of luck to you and this channel, and thank you for being an all around cool dude.
Awesome idea man! Gonna miss your videos but I'm curious to what the community will bring to the channel as well! And I'll be waiting patiently for the 'Every Sega Saturn Shump' video too!
Dear Junkie, know this, no one can do it like you. Your compilation format videos cant be touched. They are golden. If you do one every 5 years thats fine. Take your personal family time. Hopefully your vision grows. I'll support it, but know this, no one does it like you. Its been a blast xxx
Thanks man, very much appreciated. And no illusions, we don't expect everyone to make crazy high prod. value videos. And I still will look forward to making my own too. Even my own videos were super basic and low tech in the beginning, but people enjoyed something about them and got hooked. That's what we're looking for.
I am so thankful for your amazing work. The care, the love, the broad and deep knowledge you shared... Loved every second. So, first things first: thanks! Now, being selfish about the future... I hope to see more videos :D
Thanks for the support. You're very welcome. And you'll definitely be seeing more videos. Our job is to keep the quality high and people looking forward to new drops.
Man, I just want to say I love you and what you've been doing so far. I felt in love with Toaplan because of your video where you reviewed every Toaplan game. Such a great content.
Great idea, I really hope it will work out but if it won't it would still be a good try. Looking forward to the first videos from the community, and yours whenever they will be ready
What a great concept my friend! I have loved your channel since the beginning as your passion for shmups was infectious! Particularly the pc-engine/tg-16 content. Your 2 part documentary on the pc-engine was one of the best videos I've ever seen on youtube. Highlighting it's strength through the lens of expandability was genius. Also the 16-bit shooter showdown was so well done and fun! I truly wish you the best and am looking forward to the new content! Godspeed!
I am so excited to see how this change evolves... you have been my means of comfort and joy while I went through multiple surgeries so while bedridden I was binging on your amazing videos. I will never forget those moments in my life. I truly wish you all the best...! Much Respect Brother! I'll be here as long as you are!
Thanks man. And thank you for all the support. It's always awesome to hear when my content helps others out through tough times. It even helped me out through some while making a lot of it. So I really hope we can keep a good thing rolling even if it will be different than before.
Rebranding is so tricky! I have considered to change the name of my channel because I am barely focusing on boosting up bass levels lately but on the other hand it is a nice catchy thing to differentiate from the oversaturated game music channel situation. Similarly I would see your channel name and feel the love you have for shmups at a glance so I think it is cool you have found this way to evolve at the right timing!
Interesting... will stay tuned. Shmup Junkie's content is still, probably, my favorite content on TH-cam about retro gaming. But, I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd been wondering why there hasn't been as much of late. Must say, I'm hugely thankful for this channel introducing me to The Electric Underground. That dude's legit! Just wore my Shmup Life shirt to my arcade builder's shop yesterday. Fuckin' love that shirt!
Can't wait for your channel to expand further! Your mega drive content has really inspired me to play more of the 16-bit classics. I've got my eye set on the Saturn, though... I'm just waiting you to put out a compendium of the full library. 🙃
Really enjoyed your content - especially the history of the PC Engine stuff - a console which has a special place in my heart! - good luck with this! : )
been wondering what you've been up to lately. this will definitely lead to some cool additions to the content, I'm sure! looking forward to seeing what's next.
i was wearing my SJ shirt yesterday and i was just thinking when your next video would drop.. sad about the end of your regular content but i'm excited to see what the community brings! thanks for everything!!
Ha! I knew some of those shirts were out in the wild. I still look forward to producing my own passion projects here too, but it's definitely going to focus on the community now. So we'll do our best to keep the quality high and worth everyone tuning in.
Although I will miss your videos, change is inevitable. Good luck with your other passion projects as time is the most important commodity we all have.
Great to hear you're not going anywhere and sounds like the channel will still grow as it should. I'm a solo indie developer and recently started to love making shmups. I'd be very interested in getting some exposure for my Gradius inspired modern shooter (Energy Fighters) and my upcoming new 1943 inspired shooter (Eagles of World War 2). Demo's are available on STEAM if anyone wants to check them out ;-)
Yay!!.. Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster that video was..! o0 I was like "The End? NOOOOOOOOOoooooo...!" and then it suddenly became so inspiring and wholesome. Great move, Ilyusha, great move!)) Hope, it'll work out in the end^^)
That's an excellent idea! I need to make some English content and maybe send you some of my videos 😁. Also super hype with all Saturn and Famicom Shooters videos ❤
Junkie, thank you for everything. thank you for coming into this platform and showing millions the greatness of shmups. Using your channel to get more small creators and devs some more exposure is an EXCELLENT idea. here's to whatever lies ahead. *Shooting game never die.*
And thank you for all your support over the years and enjoying the vids. It always means a lot... especially when trying to launch something new like this.
Well that is certainly an ambitious project, I have no idea if it'll work out or not, but I'll stick by you and see where this ride goes. Best of luck.
I don't know man....I'm with you no matter what. However, this worries me. I know I haven't been here as much as I'd like because...I just work so much. At any rate, I'm here for you and the channel. Let's see how this shakes loose.
Thanks dude. I admit it's a grand experiment, but I think it's one worth going for. Sometimes a rad idea in concept isn't always going to work out in practice. But we will give it our best shot. And your support is always appreciated.
This is a really neat idea of yours, and although I’m sad to hear that we will see less of your brilliant content, I’m happy to see that this channel will live on! Seasons change and it’s just a natural thing to expect that nothing can last forever, so I am thankful for the many amazing videos you’ve made and great conversations we’ve had over the years! I wish only the best for you and your family, don’t be a stranger to my IG DM’s, my friend!!
Thanks my friend. Regardless of where this all goes and takes the channel, I'll enjoy being part of the community. Here's to hoping a convention get together is still sometime in the future. Covid derailed a lot but it always sounded like a good time.
Awesome proposal! I started making TH-cam videos last year, but it’s just me reading my reviews of games in front of my collection, lol. I need to figure out how to edit in some gameplay footage.

All the best with this project. I'm not a content creator but I'd love to see developers have that opportunity to show their games mainly because of the saturation and this channel will be the filter for stuff I enjoy. As for you, thank you. You've been a gem on TH-cam. What ever you are doing outside of TH-cam I wish you all the best and find balance.
You are a hero, junkie.
This is a big move, and an even bigger idea.
I can't wait to see what we all manage to make together.
This channel rules.
Bro you make the channel great with your excitement and funny character. Man 😢
Bittersweet video!
I appreciate the gesture but i come here for you specifically.
All the best SJ and the future looks bright imho
This is such a fantastic idea! I love the idea of a community run channel and it's nice to see a new positive space for shmup community members to share and grow.
I'll definitely be sending over some vids!
Hey dude! Thanks as always and for all your support in the past. Let's see what we can all do together. A discord topic is already up for everyone to share their ideas and get help.
I've been here since your TurboGrafx mini reviews - have always enjoyed your content and good luck going forward!
So close to 50K subs! I came to the channel after a few months as I have been very ill and I am a little disappointed but I understand. I thought I was going to open your channel and see like 10 new retro videos LOL. Thanks for absolutely everything you have done for the retro action game community. I can confidently say we ALL truly appreciate you. Thank you and best luck with whatever you do!
@@teddym2808 thank you. 🙏 I’m currently busy working on the Toaplan documentary which is partly why I don’t have time to make videos right now. But once that’s complete I’ll be more available and get to reevaluate how I can ramp back up again. In the meantime I hope people enjoy what’s there and go back to enjoy what they may have missed and find interesting.
@@ShmupJunkieThat all sounds really promising and I for one am very much looking forward to a Toaplan documentary:) Take care of yourself, the most important thing. Do what's best for you. You've given us so much over the years.
@@teddym2808 If you are one of the backers, you’ll be getting a code emailed to you very shortly for one of the exclusive extras. The Tatsujin live commentary is complete and uploaded. So backers will be enjoying that any day now. If not the plan is to include them all on the final release to the public as well. And thank you for your support it’s much appreciated. I had an amazing time making many of my videos and would enjoy making more someday.
I had fun watching!
Im sure I'll be rewatching your content for years to come. Thanks for the reviews, they've helped me find some pretty great games
The real Shmup Junkies are the friends we are about to make along the way.
I mostly watch this channel to see which shooter games I should play. I have a full MAME romset among others. It’s too many to play them all, so I need a best of lists. I hope this channel focuses on obscure top tier shooters still at least
Your enthusiasm and positivity is infectious, thank you for all you've done!
Man as always I've loved the channel! You have never let us down! Thanks for all ya do bro!
Love your work and energy. Your video editing is amazing.
Thanks! We'll do our best to maintain the highest standard here while opening things up to spotlight so many other cool creators.
Legit top 5 gaming channels of all time. I'm excited to see where it goes. Thank you for all your hard work!
I'll support whatever project you do because your content is forever awesome ...much love from Memphis, TN bro
Great idea, hope it goes well for you and all involved. Big fan of all you guys, looking forward to it and best of luck!
I hope so too! And thank you for the support, it's always appreciated.
You've done an amazing job so far my dude and turning it over the community is a really cool idea. Looking forward to seeing what's next. My channel's never gained any traction, but I'm not sure if I have the means to keep content going anyway. Still debating that.
Great job man!
Thanks for keeping me entertained Shmup junkie! I look forward to seeing how things turn out. Good luck with everything & much love.
I suck at Shmups, but your channel has rekindled my love for this genre! Thanks for all the work you have done and for sharing the passion!
you're amazing what a cool thing really goanna help the community.
The channel is awesome - thanks for all the great videos! I'm looking forward to what you and the others do in the future.
Thanks for your dedication to share the love for shmups! 🙌 Really enjoyed your videos and can’t wait to see what’s coming next
Thank you so much for the shmup videos! I still love shmups even to this day!
I think this is a really cool direction to take things in. I can't wait to see the results.
Thanks for all the amazing content bro! This channel is def one of my favs! Cheers!
Demo's are available on STEAM if anyone wants to check them out ;-)
Yay!!..
Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster that video was..! o0
I was like "The End? NOOOOOOOOOoooooo...!" and then it suddenly became so inspiring and wholesome.
Great move, Ilyusha, great move!))
Hope, it'll work out in the end^^)
Thanks dude! Me too! And you're the only one that can call me by my original name ; )
@@ShmupJunkie hehe, the privilege^^))
Very excited to see what's next Shmup Junkies!
Because of you, I myself became a Shmup Junkie. I love this new idea.
As of now, I have no idea what to expect. But, I am super hy..dorahed!
And a big THANK YOU for all your work you have done over the years.
Very interesting idea!! I hope that this channel keeps growing and blows up with interesting creators and content!
Ive always wanted to make retro game content... Maybe this is my chance.
I’ve loved all your vids since I found your channel, this is an awesome way to keep things rolling
Well that is certainly an ambitious project, I have no idea if it'll work out or not, but I'll stick by you and see where this ride goes. Best of luck.
No kidding! We are all optimistic but also being realistic. Your support means a lot and we'll do our best to make it worthwhile for everyone.
When you're ready and up for it, we will have a discord topic with people looking for help and others to help out and contribute. We all had to up our game at some point to compete with so many other videos out there.
Thank You for all you have done for us. I will still watch and rewatch all of your videos. Again thank you 🤘🤘
All the best with this project.
I'm sure like many of your viewers we will hold you to that Every Saturn shooter.😅
Shump community you have been handed a valuable asset. Let's make Junkie proud 😊
Junkie you're truly the GOAT.
Thank you so much for all the love you've invested on your content ❤
Thanks man. Especially for your support. It's really everyone that enjoys the content that keeps the channel going strong.
Thanks for everything, Junkie. Your channel is how I became a shmup fan.
Awesome update and so amazing what you continue to do for the shmup community! What an amazing journey this channel has been on and seems like it's just getting started! very exciting news sir!
Right! It's only been a few years if that. My channel is young by comparison. Unfortunately I'm getting old haha
Happy to hear u are keeping up retro gaming love. Im new to channel ñ looking forward to great content from the best gamers there are, retro gamers❤❤🎉😁👍🏼
love the content .. I to am a 80's 90's kid and just started to post some of the older stuff to my channel.. This is a awesome thing your doing here.
What a cool idea. I like that "just walking away" wasn't an option for you. That's some true dedication right there. 💪
I've got a video of my own that I might wanna post to this channel, because I wasn't really sure about uploading it to mine. Probably because I know it wouldn't get a lot of attention. It's of me doing a 1CC of Radiant Silvergun on Switch, that I'm still feeling a lot of accomplishment for
When you're ready, hit up the discord and see what others can help out with if you need it. And congrats on your 1CC!
I love how the "Entire community" is a bunch of people I know because that's a picture from a Brazilian retro-gaming meeting :P
Good luck for the new era of the channel :D I'm looking forward to see how this goes. This is one of the very few channels that I actually subscribe :D
It’s such an awesome photo I had to use it!
Thank you for making, in my opinion, some of the highest quality content on all of TH-cam. I understand not having much free time. My kids are 2 and 4 and free time is extremely limited right now. Take care of yourself and I’m sure the community won’t let you down. I’ll be here for the entire ride and hope to see you personally post again down the road
1st of all, ofc I'm sorry to hear that you're so busy with other things that you can't make these cool videos (which you obviously love doing! You've got the passion) - but yeah life happens. However you've got quite an excellent idea lined up to turn the channel over to the community; as long as you make sure you do a great job of curating what you post on the channel; i'm sure we will all be in for a treat in the near future.Take care !
It's a really innovative idea. I think it will work, but I will miss your videos my man. You have made some great videos over the years.
Just found this channel a couple of weeks ago. You scared me there for a second. Glad to know the channel is alive! 🙌
Would love to see more Documentary style videos like the PC Engine series you did :)
