I lived in Italy for 2 years and visited Florence twice and Venice once. This music is everywhere in those towns and even the shops and churches are still there. The gondolas are just a picture waiting to be taken and the Carnival in Feb. is still the same as always. Music like this still being played in the streets.

I guess the people in Venice should be in constant melancholy, joy and various combinations of emotions if gems of Vivaldi are continuously played in daytime everywhere. They should feel themselves as if they are living in heaven. Having Vivaldi as a fellow countryman, Venetians are very lucky :)
Just the first notes really make me smile that a man could think of such music. Its almost transcendent. Vivaldi never disappoints.

When I listen to Vivaldi i can close my eyes and be transported to another age, a time of great beauty and culture and so much musical genius.

chi si è fermato solo alle "quattro stagioni" non ha capito il genio e la varietà di linguaggio musicale di vivaldi.
Es toda una verdad, pero es que a Vivaldi se lo "descubrió" en la década de los 50-60. Anteriormente y en general, solo conocíamos los cuatro manoseado clásicos, y poco más.
Oui, c'est un de mes compositeurs préférés et j'écoute "Les quatre saisons" sans jamais m'en lasser tellement les atmosphères rendues sont justes. Sa musique est si joyeuse et raffinée. Il a composé aussi de nombreux opéras, hélas peu joués de nos jours et dans lesquels chaque aria est un petit bijou. J'en ai étudié un bon nombre et je les chante en boucle chaque jour. C'est une délectation !
Normale...e' il parco buoi italiota. Del resto si e' arrivati perfino a rammentare la grande musica (peraltro senza conoscerla affatto) solo se impiegata come "interludio" di attesa telefonica o peggio come colonna sonora di spot pubblicitari...

I love Vivaldi. Specially the mandolin concertos.
Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era. I wonder what would be like to hear this music for the first time. And then the chances to hear a live piece were so scarce since only Nobles and Courtisans were privileged to hear this music and maybe just once in a lifetime . So thinking again, today I can hear it all at home , and maybe I can wear a wig and heels and powder my nose once in a while . Delightful.
I'd sacrifice the time swap, though your proposal is one I have considered. The question in my mind is do I appreciate 17th and 18th century music more because I have heard the music of later eras? Is my "ear" more "educated"? I don't mean to think myself superior, just possibly a beneficiary of what has been developed since back then.
I did this once for my bithday i hired a romeo and juliette dress,had a dress up party, and after wards i i could keep the dress for 7 days.. so everyday after work i would wear this dress and float around the house in it.. even watch tv with a glass of wine.. was like living in another time period.. deliciously decadent !

This is sick. I've never heard a mandolin concerto. The timbral feel is totally fresh, the solo passages necessitate dynamic variation, the playing is playful and exuberant, and the compositions are, well, Vivaldi. A beautiful discovery.
Vivaldi never wrote anything for guitar.....but the mandolin....

Vivaldi was so great! My parents wouldn't let me listen to the radio when I was growing up and I just had one record the Masters of Baroque to hear.
I remember as a kid my Dad joined a Classic music club. Once a month he d get a record in the mail. All the big names. At the time TORTURE! But classical wins in the long run. Take Care.

Note the intentional use of organ rather than harpsichord in continuo because both harpsichord and mandolin produce sound from the plucking of strings which makes their sound relatively similar, which is the last thing you want when mandolins are generally rather quiet instruments and harpsichords can overwhelm them.
