The birds are your "LIVE" TH-cam audience. It's just so satisfying watching someone "printing money" with a sawmill. I love the self reliance of it all. If I had wooded property and a sawmill, I'd be out there all day, too. Thanks for a great video. Excellent camera angles and resolution.

A couple years back I started re-sawing as a hobby and to make some neat and interesting wood for a few buddies that make EXPENSIVE commission furniture pieces. Now, if I were so inclined, I could quit my construction management and super intendant position and strictly re-saw making damn near 6 figures if the market held its' current trajectory. I would miss all the travel though. Hell I bought a 54' ft class A RV that's been converted. I changed the sleeping area from a king sized bed to a twin that folds into a couch and the room converts to a conference room for when the weather is bad. Proper kitchen so I can cook actual food for my subs when we have our twice weekly production meeting. All the usual amenities of a luxury RV. Big ole fat mobile wifi hotspot couple of smart TVs because there is a lot of downtime.
Maybe I'll finish teaching my 14 year old daughters to re-saw and pick old lumber to make new boards with so they can do that while I'm working and earn some spending money. Not sure how I'll shoehorn that between machining, teaching them on my run down MAZAK how to cnc, and the other aspects of fabrication but this could be a good opportunity for them. Thoughts?

It's a great machine. Had mine for over 10 years. Makes great lumber and huge bar tops that he local band mills can't. As in 50 inch diameter oak. Pull lumber off the top, flip it on the forks onto the 8 x 8 bearers, make lumber off the other side, then skim. If under 8 inches (model 827 Lucas mill) one edge can be cut. Took 6 guys to lift the one bar top I made..16 foot long red oak! Amazing machine.

On a Lucas, vertical cuts should ideally never be done in a forward direction, can be unsafe and cause the whole machine frame to lift up on top of the log. It does make one-man operation like this a lot simpler though. I enjoy seeing you mill this up!

Man them lucas mills are slow. 2,000 borad feet in 8 to 10 hours is a pretty common day on most any hydrolic band mill ive used. Be it cook, timberking or woodmizer. They will run circles around that thing pun intended. We even have a old circle mill with a carriage and it will way out do all of them in borad footage but not in lumbar quality.

How many feet of cutting can you get out of the blade before needing to sharpen/replace it?

Wood prices seem to be coming back down here in Florida, interesting dynamics. A 1 1/2 by 3 1/2 for 20 shekels...

hey Cody I had a question about the saw. when you were cutting the 2 by 6's you individually cut the bottom and then the sides. would it be easier to do a 6 inch wide bottom cut then cut the sides.

G'day Crazy, no if he cut six inches in the horizontal when he swings its set to intersect in the vertical so he would have to wind back and remeasure to time consuming. All saws no matter which type are more efficient in the vertical position because gravity clears the wood dust from the cut with horizontal sawing the dust collects under the blade causing friction heat expansion then inaccuracies .if you check out Saw mill shoot offs you'll see that nothing can beat the Lucas Mill in the $20K and under and that's in your soft oak bandsaws down under are vertical wide bade or rubbish 👍.
