This town was so safe that at ten years old I could ride my bike anywhere from one end of town to the other end and be home by the time the streetlight came on. Drugs and demarcates = high crime. By the way, if you get away from Washington park elementary. It takes you out of the hood. And Petey Pablo was a scrub at Southern Correctional.

Other than maybe Church Street, there isn't a decent place left to live within the "old" city limits areas. You have to cross to the other side of 501 or go South to find decent neighborhoods. What was once a pretty vibrant uptown (i.e. Belks, McNairs, Barrons, Woods, Roses, Western Auto, Banks) was gone by the 90s.
