This is the best assembled Gilas Pilipinas Team ..a team with a lot of grit discipline heart and determination to fight against all odds. Imagine a low-ranking team vs the top 5 ranking team with NBA players in their roster . This team has a lot of hustle and high basketball IQ too. Mabuhay kayong lahat mga kababayang Gilas ! You may have lost the game but you earned the respect and admiration of the world. Just play the game hard, enjoy it, stay humble and win a friend .
I remember this watching live in 2014. Around 3am . I was shouting alone at my room to thepoint that my parents woke up because of my noise. Best Gilas ever assembled

Allied Basketball great games doesn’t always have to result in a win. Look at how they played in this game. They played with heart they played like there’s no tomorrow they all played their very best. They never gave up they never let the Argentina team pull off ahead they shook them at this game. Argentina clearly is the favorite to win but Gilas gave them a run for their money. Keep in mind Argentina was at its peak that time and was #3 or #5 in the world rankings that time so losing by 4 points is a great game by a team that has been looked down even before the start of the game
I hope the new gilas watch all the games that these old gilas played on this world cup, and learn how smart these old gilas play. Philippines now had a lot of not just good , but really great prospect. We have tall, more athletic, skillful young guns. If the new gilas will be smart like these old gilas played, Man sky will be the limit for us. Imagine a guys like Kai, thirdy, ricci, kobe paras, abando, Edu, De Liano Bros., ildefonso, tamayo collab with matured Romeo, JMF, Perez and Bolick will be on the same pool or team. Future of Philippine basketball can achieve higher in the big stage.

Newbie Asian qualifier Philippines just wanted to win, to represent.
I remember every night that year, for those 5 games they played everybody stuck on to their TV's like it was a Pacquiao fight.
Everybody expected a blowout because Argentina was then ranked #3 Worldwide but
boy they stood their ground and showed heart and spirit. Puso!

High turn over rate, poor shot selection even worse defense is why we can't beat the elite teams. No doubt we play with alot of heart but that's not enough to be champs.

We couldve won this game if not for chot reyes being so emotional. He got carried by calls against us. You can see him doing a lot of unnecessary gestures. He being the head coach should have had the composure to remain calm and focus in the game to lead our players. Wish that was coach Tab. We mightve won 2-3 games if we had him instead.

In the past olympics, ph partcipations has still lot to improved. Observations in FIBA Olympics; 1st to coaches; coach Chot Reyes is still the best. Others involves in training and analytics are also doing well. To players; we need 3 to 4 over 7' in height, quick, can depend the basket, with good playing attitudes. Other players should have a very good consistent perimeter shooters, quick and aggreesive in the board. To guards; involve Terence Romeo, Jason Castro, Matthew Wright, and upcoming good players. But the rest should not be below 6'-5".Fajardo still the force but evaluation should be passed as he was injured for a long time. For naturalized Blatche still very formidable but if you can find a taller one who is agile, quck, shooter, can depend the board will be good. All shooting guards should passed a shooting drills. I think we will be competitive at this time. These team will rely greatly on players evaluations by both coaches. Politics shall be out in the selections to answer fully to our goals and objectives in 2023. A one year cohesive practices is recommendable...God Bless PH team...

wow I admire the team effort of the Argentina team, when their back is against the wall, they keep on passing the ball until they find the open man, no dribbling while the Philippine team go for isolation play when they are in desperate situation. Hopefully Philippine team will perform better come 2023 FIBA world cup.
That's the thing Argentina that Gilas doesn't have in this game Argentina remains calm and compose despite the pressure definitely because they're more experience in this kind of situations while Gilas always has close calls and can't capitalize in crrunchtime because of lack of experience

The best gilas assembled in all these years. Could actually win all the elimination games if they all believed and was not starstruck and satisfied by just landing a spot in world cup. They could have won these match with a little luck on the 3 point of batch and rebounding in last two minute and turnovers which could have decided the matxh.
Asia's best international tournament record is only top 8, made by China multiple times. I sincerely hope Philippines can improve this record by making a team that consists 12 non-philippine players
