@@craftedworkshop Its super helpful. The first thing the gentleman that got me into wood working and construction told me was that mistakes were inevitable. The difference between a good carpenter and a bad one was knowing how to fix them/ hide them.
I use Total Boat epoxy as well and it's really great. I've found that if it dries overnight, I warm it up for a few seconds with a heat gun and run a chisel on the build up and it comes right up. Saves my plane blades and it comes off VERY clean and there's no dust. I don't know if this is a bad way to do things but just thought you'd give it a go if you want to save some time.
That table is dope my dude. I been wanting to build my wife and I a modern storage table just like this for a couple of years now. I actually love the copper pipe idea for the legs. I'd like to maybe add some casters on mine though, cause we always seem to be moving our current table around and bringing it closer for fight nights or to clean. I also would love to incorporate some preserved moss somehow. Super jealous of the 3D printer lol. Gonna have to look into that once my carpenter skills are up to a higher level first. I'll deff be checking out the plans and subscribing. Thanks for the vid!
Wow... you sure caught a break with the drawer 😂 We have pre-soldered fittings here in Ireland, simply push together & put the torch on 'em & your done ! Nice table !! 😎👍☘️
Beautiful job on that coffee table. I agree with you on the rounded edge vs. the chamfer. I think I might have gone with a push-to-open drawer to avoid drilling a hole in the face.
Same here. Always knew about table saw kickback but not mitre saw. Now that we think of it, any spinning blade against wood is probably bound to have danger
But my simple mind is struggling to understand the physics here. The saw spins in a direction where it would like to throw the wood into the direction of the tool's user. The wood is now clamped so it doesn't move, so the saw moves. Why doesn't the saw move into the opposite direction (the wall) than the wood would move? It moved towards the user which was unexpected in terms of physics to me.
Another fantastic build with some solid walnut. I really like the grain continuity in the front drawer. I also appreciate the note on the Festool Domino setting for the fitting vs loose fit. I'm digging that machine and I would like to get one for myself, expensive but seems like a good investment. Cheers
Loved the way you edited this video, it had like more info and details which I love. Also I love experimenting and mixing styles, I like how these two look together, I think you could make two different pieces out of those those two!
Very nice build. Something I’ve been looking for years and you added the gamer approach... nice touch. Keep up the good work, maybe one day I’ll have something like this, just don’t have the tools for it.
Can you make a video showcaseing everything you've built and where it fits in your house? It would be interesting to see how a room looks with so many self made furniture items
the walnut piece is gorgeous! I agree, I think the base and top are a little mismatched. Perhaps if the lif top mechanism was copper too instead of black too
Thanks Fred! And thanks again for those stickers. It was really funny, when April told me you had sent a gift for us, I said “are they emoji stickers?”, totally joking of course, and then it turned out they were!
Oh wow, that Enduro-Var darkened the walnut nicely. I tried using High Performance Poly on some walnut I had, and it was just too light still so I ended up using dark walnut danish oil. I may have to give Enduro-Var a look. I don't have a respirator or and outdoor work area to use oil-based polys unfortunately.
Finally got to watch this! I really like the table man! I agree i think a round over would go better with the pipe but for some reason walnut more then any other wood i have worked with just looks great with a chamfer
The only thing I appreciate the help of new technology used and fantastic explanation side by side make the real value added video on TH-cam thanks keep it up.
Come on son, Wikipedia FTW 😂 I love synthetic steel wool, stays together a lot nicer and is way more useful on wood stuff. Great for knocking back a glossy finish. Your shelf video definitely helped me make sure I was on the right track with the soldering.
Where do you source the lift mechanism....looking for something for a desk so different dimensions is needed. I enjoyed learning youre are an expert for sure!!!
I break my boards down on my miter saw also. Tip for you if you cut the boards in shallower passes instead of all at once that wont happen and its much safer
Nice job Johnny, I noticed you didn't use any masking or drop cloths when spraying your finish. Are you not concerned with the overspray getting on your assembly table or floor?
@Robert B. I think there is a problem with the proportions of the copper more than basic appearance. The pipework is just too thin. I think larger diameter iron pipe might have been better. There is also a dissonance between the industrial nature of using plumbing pipe and then such fine wood and clean lines for the table itself. Pipe and pallet wood would be more the thing ( IMO of course ).
Exactly how the 45 deg bevel along the front edge of the tabletop helps to raise it is very perplexing: this bevel makes it more difficult to raise the table top. Why did you not cut a bottom groove along the underside of the table top i.e. just inboard of the front edge?
Not a ton of tools? Bro you used like 4+ different type of saws. Hell even used a 3d printer. Nice work though, but no you used a shit load of tools :]
Will the pullout upper part of table be able to hold a sewing machine. Is there a way to like lock in the part that swings up on the top to make a higher table? Thanks
Never worked with copper before he says.... damn kids! When i'm soldering copper pipe, I keep an acid brush next to me with some flux. Once the solder starts to flow, you take away the heat and let the solder draw in, then before it has a chance to cool, brush it with the flux again. You'd be surprised how clean the joint is afterwards, would pretty much eliminate that file work you did afterwards.
Yea I kind of wish I had gone that route. I think the copper color compliments the Walnut, but a cool patina would have added some more depth for sure.
It’s actually pretty darn stable. I added some weights to the inside of the cabinet just for some extra insurance, since we have a small kid who will inevitably start pulling on this thing.
thanks for replying - was purely wondering for the same reason - have a pretty lively 4 year old boy can just imagine him putting all his weight on the top when its out
or add walnut wodden legs instead both could work i suppose....but man o man do you own some expensive equipment bro...love the workshop and a great build
Could you do a video showing the cleanup for the spray gun? That’s the turn off for me. Do you have to clean up your spray gun between costs? You mentioned 3 coats in one day. Did you clean up your gun 3 times? Any info would be awesome thanks and great video!
I could probably do an HVLP overview video, that’s a good idea! The clean up is super easy, and you don’t need to clean the gun between coats. It’s sealed inside the hopper, so it stays fresh for at least a few days. I’ve gotten sidetracked and left the gun with finish in it for a few months and the finish still looked viable, although I dumped it at that point.
Nope, usually a little skin will form at the nozzle but it can easily be picked off in a second and then you’re right back to spraying. I’ll add it to my list!
Crafted Workshop awesome thank you! This info has been pretty eye opening. I think I’m gonna give it a try in the future! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. I’m already less intimidated hearing this info. Wow. Thank you man!

the Total Boat bit.ly link does not work
Brett Hollifield should be fixed now!
my dad used to work at Bernzomatic in Arizona probably 40 years ago
What was the lift hardware called?
I’m so happy you showed the risks of what happens when the wood is very tense. Showing the kick back really helps me FOCUS on safety.
Your transparency is refreshing. Thanks for sharing your projects and process.
Thanks, mistakes are part of the gig, showing how to fix them will hopefully help some folks!
@@craftedworkshop Its super helpful. The first thing the gentleman that got me into wood working and construction told me was that mistakes were inevitable. The difference between a good carpenter and a bad one was knowing how to fix them/ hide them.
For sure!
Agree.
Great tip on the epoxy cleanup. No dust and clogged sandpaper is a plus! Nice job Johnny! See ya next week!
Thanks, those two tools definitely make quick work of small epoxy spots! See you in ATL!
This is SO COOL!! Super clean, creative, and functional
Thanks bud! By the way, you got Smash yet? If so, why are we not playing? 😂
Really nice combination between the walnut and copper & you're definitely right - looks like spraying made things a lot quicker and easier for you!
Thanks man, and I definitely love spraying!
A copper ring inset in your drawer pull would have really tied it all together.
I really like that idea!
I saw one like this in a a shop for under £200 but true skill of yours is infinite
So happy I'm not the only one that uses their torch for sous-vide :)
Love me some sous vide!
Super Cool! I like how you can still access the inside using a drawer so you don't always need to lift the top. Nicely done!
For sure, I wanted all of the heavily used items easily accessible without having to lift the top! Thanks.
Perfect form and function.
For sure, I’ve seen some other people do that, need to give it a shot!
While not a huge fan of the base, I'm sure benzomatic *LOVED* it!
I think they did!
That table is dope my dude. I been wanting to build my wife and I a modern storage table just like this for a couple of years now. I actually love the copper pipe idea for the legs. So cool man! I’m going to try and make this and use galvanize pipe and spray paint the pipe black so it looks Industrial 🤙🏻
This is a piece of furniture I need in my life!! So beautiful and functional.
Thanks, build one!
This is AWESOME!!!!! My husband will be building this exceptional piece immediately. Brilliant idea! Great detailed video and narrative.
Nice one man! Me and my dad just made a hidden storage table on our channel a couple of weeks ago. I absolutely love things with storage!
Storage is the best!
Spraying is the ONLY way to apply finish! Great project bro!
Thanks man!
Wow... you sure caught a break with the drawer 😂
We have pre-soldered fittings here in Ireland, simply push together & put the torch on 'em & your done !
Nice table !! 😎👍☘️
Yea I definitely lucked out, hah! And that sounds super easy, I'm not sure that's a thing here AFAIK. Thanks!
Solid walnut for the win!
Gotta love it!
My wife and I eat dinner watching tv often (probably shouldn’t) and the lift top would be so cool! 🤣
I love the copper legs tho!
It's definitely going to come in handy for my popcorn during movies!
Beautiful job on that coffee table. I agree with you on the rounded edge vs. the chamfer. I think I might have gone with a push-to-open drawer to avoid drilling a hole in the face.
I had never considered, kickback like that on a mister saw, thanks for including that.
Same here. Always knew about table saw kickback but not mitre saw. Now that we think of it, any spinning blade against wood is probably bound to have danger
Yup, any saw can have kickback!

Thanks! And yea it’s totally worth it IMO. You see how much I use, there’s rarely a project where it doesn’t get used.
Loved the way you edited this video, it had like more info and details which I love. Also I love experimenting and mixing styles, I like how these two look together, I think you could make two different pieces out of those those two!
Thanks man, trying to sprinkle in more tidbits even if the video ends up a little longer. And I totally agree, gotta experiment to see what works!
Nice work 👌
I loved the Cooper pipes
Thanks Ahmed!
Very nice build. Something I’ve been looking for years and you added the gamer approach... nice touch. Keep up the good work, maybe one day I’ll have something like this, just don’t have the tools for it.
copper + walnut + continuos grain drawer = awsomeness!!
Thanks!
Can you make a video showcaseing everything you've built and where it fits in your house? It would be interesting to see how a room looks with so many self made furniture items
That’d be fun!
This is a wicked nice table! I think I found my next project.
Thanks, have fun!
Learned a lot, love that you share your thought process behind certain decisions. Thanks!
Appreciate it!
very clean
the walnut piece is gorgeous! I agree, I think the base and top are a little mismatched. Perhaps if the lif top mechanism was copper too instead of black too

Awesome work Johnny! 👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred! And thanks again for those stickers. It was really funny, when April told me you had sent a gift for us, I said “are they emoji stickers?”, totally joking of course, and then it turned out they were!
@@craftedworkshop Yeah, that is funny, glad you like them Johnny! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Turned out great, Johnny! I love that matte sheen on the copper!
Thanks Bruce, me too!
beautiful

Yea, Enduro Var definitely has much more of an oil look, especially compared to High Performance. I think you'd be happy with the result!
Great design. I have been thinking of ideas for some kind of storage, and TV dinner stand for my living room. The project looks great.
Great Project and your customary crisp video. Thanks
Thanks!
Ooooooh I want to make this! My parents have a lift top coffee table and I have always been jealous of it.
Go for it!
you can add for light inside the cabinet some LED with a sensor like in the fridge that when you pull it and open it there is light turining on
Finally got to watch this!
I really like the table man! I agree i think a round over would go better with the pipe but for some reason walnut more then any other wood i have worked with just looks great with a chamfer
Thanks! And yea I’m a sucker for Walnut and a chamfer.
I like the design. Have you ever thouggt of adding a secret drop drawer to the bottom of the table. To keep those things secret and yet handy to you
I love the table. Is there a way to build it to all these tool without buying all these machines?
The only thing I appreciate the help of new technology used and fantastic explanation side by side make the real value added video on TH-cam thanks keep it up.
Very Cool Concept Johnny! I like it!
Awesome build and something that is on my list as well. I love the cut our drawer and simple finger pull for it.
For a super clean solder joint use a rag with transmission fluid on it. Wipe right away after soldering.
“Capillary action” coming in hot with the vocabulary!! 😁 table came out awesome!! How’d you synthetic over normal steel wool?
Come on son, Wikipedia FTW 😂 I love synthetic steel wool, stays together a lot nicer and is way more useful on wood stuff. Great for knocking back a glossy finish. Your shelf video definitely helped me make sure I was on the right track with the soldering.

as always very inspiring. Im going to try the round over. ill update with pics when complete
Nice, I’d love to see it!
Dude, very cool and nice looking table.
Great Job!
Thanks!
Super nice looking man ! Great project ! :)
Thanks!
I’m completing my lift top coffee table right now. Just curious as to how you know which side of the mechanism is the top side?
We just bought a table very similar to this for almost 800 bones! Good job.
Nice job Johnny, I noticed you didn't use any masking or drop cloths when spraying your finish. Are you not concerned with the overspray getting on your assembly table or floor?
I usually do but was in a hurry. Nice thing about water based finishes is it wipes up super easily and dries very quickly, so no problems there.
Not a fan of the copper base, but the rest looks great!
Dope video! Really nice work
I like the idea of making furniture using woodworking and powerarc skills.
So badass
Thanks Brian!
Somehow I like the copper base, at least something special, good idea.
Thanks!
Exactly how the 45 deg bevel along the front edge of the tabletop helps to raise it is very perplexing: this bevel makes it more difficult to raise the table top. Why did you not cut a bottom groove along the underside of the table top i.e. just inboard of the front edge?
Awesome ideas! Were you going to share the STLs for the game dividers and such? Thanks!
Forgot to link to it in the description! www.thingiverse.com/thing:27070
Not a ton of tools? Bro you used like 4+ different type of saws. Hell even used a 3d printer. Nice work though, but no you used a shit load of tools :]
When you add them up they probably weigh more than a ton.
I like this but how much was it? I'd prefer to build than pay for a premade one but if you didn't have the wood how much did you spend?
Awesome project! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks y'all!
TFW you publish your 4K video before TH-cam has finished processing it, so my audience can only see it in 360p 😭🤯
Crafted Workshop I was wondering why I wasn’t able to see this in higher def. I’ll definitely check it out again once it’s been processed.
I immediately scrolled into the comments to see what's going on lol
Can you list all the tools you have
Very original!
Thanks!
I need the measurements for this! I would love to try making this.
Will the pullout upper part of table be able to hold a sewing machine. Is there a way to like lock in the part that swings up on the top to make a higher table? Thanks
My girlfriend would LOVE something like that!
Amazing!
Do you have the plans for this project?
Yup, on my website!
Sous vide is the best!
Love sous vide! The best steaks ever.
Naipes . good idea
That's amazing, I tip my hat too you
Thank you!
You could substitute the copper pipes with aluminum tubes.
Good to know! And my house has PEX, so never needed to learn to work with it.
Marie Kondo would be proud.
Nice project, but it deserved a patina finish on the base. The green/black oxidation you can get on copper would have looked great with that walnut.
Yea I kind of wish I had gone that route. I think the copper color compliments the Walnut, but a cool patina would have added some more depth for sure.
The best and easiest way to get rid of the extra flux is to hit it with the torch and then brush it of with the flux brush.
damn good man
Nice build! What sort of other base would be feasible on this build? I’m stumped trying to think of how to join legs to the top cabinet
This looks freaking amazing!!!
What's the stability like with the table top out? How much weight can it take before it tips?
Following for the response. I've watched a few similar videos where they ended up adding weights to the table to stop it from tipping.
It’s actually pretty darn stable. I added some weights to the inside of the cabinet just for some extra insurance, since we have a small kid who will inevitably start pulling on this thing.
Yup, I added them but probably not totally necessary. I made the base pretty heavy on purpose.
thanks for replying - was purely wondering for the same reason - have a pretty lively 4 year old boy can just imagine him putting all his weight on the top when its out
Excelente amigo gracias por compartir tu video 👍😁
Gracias!
Ok I probably missed it but where can i purchase the mechanism for raising table top ?
I agree with the round over but it still looks awesome .
I may have missed it, but how did you attach the copper base/legs to the underneath of the table?
or add walnut wodden legs instead both could work i suppose....but man o man do you own some expensive equipment bro...love the workshop and a great build

I like the Sturgill lyrics!
Good eye! Got those for my little dude, very fitting quote.
Enjoyed the video! Keep it up!
Great. Thanks
I wish to have all those tools..
It is 10000x easier to get the epoxy up with a heat gun and a chisel
The plane is fast. But it's even faster (and super satisfying) to take a heat gun then chisel to the overpour
