- In this DCS: F-16C Viper video, we will learn how to user laser-guided bombs (GBU-12 and GBU-10) to attack targets based on a laser designation from a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC). We are also working quickly to provide the Litening targeting pod for the Viper that will allow self-designation.

The increasing number of videos is getting me really excited. It's like Christmas!
In order to hit our Viper release window, we have very recently had to temporarily move a couple of the systems programmers from the Hornet onto the Viper for a short period. Once the Viper is released, they will be back to work on the Hornet with a strong push on TWS radar mode, air-to-surface radar, further targeting pod features, and more. Much of this work is directly applicable to the Viper. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for your patience.

Will the Viper be able to enter MGRS coordinates or will it live in the Lat/Lon world like the Hornet?
No MGRS for the F-16, you enter Lat/Lon coordinates in decimal in the steerpoints page in the DED by pressing 4 (STPT) on the ICP.
Great training....but you didn't cover how you set up the laser code if it isn't a standard code????
You do not set the bomb code in the cockpit.
I see in the video the ASL line, but that was based on a pre designated target point, is there any hud indication of the laser mark point on the ground, to know where to be looking to line up for the bomb drop. The only example I know of is the harrier LST mode? Thanks, love the videos
No, the F-16 doesn't have a laser tracker built in. The TGP can work as a laser spot tracker, though. The way LGBs are normally used with off-board designation is thru entering the provided coordinates into the jet and using those coordinates as your target, releasing via CCRP on that target. Also, as Paveways acquire the laser after release, there is no indication that the laser has been detected by the bomb.

The F-16 is fundamentally the same as the Bug, but with a few small differences, yeah.

The code is entered on the ground, you do not enter the laser PRF for the bomb in the cockpit, you only set the laser code and LST code for the pod.
When is the F16 being released can we fly it early?

When is it coming?
Hello and sorry for any confusion. Since we started the pre-order, we have always stated that the early access release would be sometime in early Autumn 2019. This has not changed. On Steam though, we had to enter an actual date to have it available for release. When this happened months ago, our best estimate was 25 September 2019. However, even on the store page, we indicate that early Autumn 2019 is the project release date (25 September was just a best-case scenario). In almost all videos, updates, and other news on this project, we have been stating sometime in early Autumn 2019. But we will announce the actual day of release next week.

I've been watching the FC2 tutorials to brush up on my FC3 commands, that alone is one hell of a progression. I'm glad I got on the ride there before DCS really took off but I can't imagine how proud you early LOMAC and Flanker guys must be feeling.

Nice but as always the JTAC gives UTM/MGRS coord and the ONLY planes that can use it is the Hog. When will we have INS with UTM/MGRS in the FA18, Harrier and F16 ?
@@nicholascobb2859 of course we have the ability to switch screen on the fly, set pause, report the numbers in a multiplayer environment, and get back to the cockpit lol

This man has a very very good point. I think the harrier should be able to do different variants of coords but not yet implemented if ever.

Can target coordinates be input into your map as an additional point of interest for ccrp?
Similar to the a10, will aircraft and jtac be able to share target location via SADL (is that related to link16?)?
How are you able to confirm laser spot? Is that the x over the steerpoint 2 marker?
In the F-16, you enter your target coordinates in the DED (Data Entry Display) in STPT page by pressing 4 on the ICP.
Normally you would have 10 steerpoints for your navpoints from 1 to 10, then steerpoints from 11 to 24 are there your targets, such as pre-briefed targets (from the DTC) and what the JTAC, FAC, AWACS, etc can give you as in this video, steerpoint 25 is your bullseye coordinates. Then you have steerpoints up to 99, for many other things like the dashed lines (steerpointd lines), threat circles, mark points, etc.
Steerpoints in the F-16 are in decimal, no UTM/MGRS, and such

Yes because the F-16 has now way of laser spot tracking without a TGP.

I didn't see here how you set/ confirmed the laser code for the LGB-12 seeker head, nor how you set/ confirm the laser spot receiver code? Obviously it was set (because the bomb hit the target) but I was expecting you to cover that too. Not being familiar with the F-16 (since the Falcon 4 days) I don't know how you did this exactly in the F-16. One would "assume" it is a similar process to the F-18?
the laser code for a GBU 12 is set on the outside of the bomb itself, during the pilot's walkaround, it cannot be changed in cockpit!
@@jesselanham1923 Sure about that with the f-16? You can change the code on the GBU-12 from within the F/A-18 in cockpit via the stores page and UFC. I'm very surprised you can't do that in the F-16.

Thanks Jesse & Phil for your replies. I didn't realise that is the case for the F/A 18 as well IRL. I'm a little disappointed ED have implemented it this way then, rather than making it part of the Mission Editor/ Mission Planning/ and or Rearming screens. I personally prefer things to be as accurate as possible to RL.

Wags great video as always. Do you think it would be possible to put a map of oceana VA in the making?. I'm a veteran in the US Navy and was stationed there in 08. That would be a cool map in DCS WORLD 2.5.
Sorry, no such plans at this time as it would be a rather limited map for scenarios.
Will the cold start mission be ready soon?
Just a question, if there is no Waypoint IVO the target that is marked. How can you aquire the target? For instance, if the target marked is 50 miles from the nearest waypoint.
ED please add Wing / Cloud vapors when pitching or rolling hard! It can make for good cinematic use and genuinely enhances the feeling of speed in DCS if it were to be added

Hi, what if the JTAC lasing the target is another player running combined arms? Must there be a steerpoint in order to CCRP release the GBU? I have not been able to find videos documenting that process.
I believe you can use the LSS (Laser Spot Search) function on the TGP to lock onto a target being lased without a pre-determined steerpoint. Haven't tried it myself yet.

you dont have to. 1. its the standard laser code for bombs (no changing needed) 2. the ground crew can change it, noone else. Probably via kneeboard on the ground when rearming

Don't think you should of selected the munition BEFORE checking in...... That's going to be in the GAMEPLAN from the JTAC.
There is something I don't understand, you don't need to enter the laser code anywhere ? How do the bomb knows which laser to track ?

that was a placeholder date for the DLC. It it is however confirmed that the Viper will become available in the next open beta update, don't forget to switch to the open beta when it arrives.

Show me a single forum post, YT video or Facebook post where they promised to finish the Hornet "in a timely manner". Borrowing 1 or 2 developers/programmers to help ironing an issue out on the F16 is not a slap of anything, nevermind a face. I also own the Hornet module, along with about 98% of the other modules in DCS, and I'm neither disappointed nor angry. You think a few days of working on the F16 makes any difference in the long run about how quickly the Hornet will be finished? Will the release of TWS in the Hornet 3 days sooner than expected make a noticeable difference in your life?
Honestly mate, your experience in DCS will be much better if you just enjoy what is there already, instead of making up your own conspiracy theories about ED and their commitment towards their customers. You're not a Flat Earther by any chance?
PSIExperience, when did they say they sould release the Viper finished? Cannot remember reading that anywhere. Besides the Hornet is still being worked on. It is only a few of the hornet team that will work on the Viper until it comes out in early access and then back to the Hornet again. So not a slap in the face by any means. They are not abandoning the Hornet.

I all for bring out new modules for DCS 2.5 but the core of the game is broken .

For now you need a steerpoint. Later, we'll be adding snowplow mode (SP) that will allow the TGP to be locked ahead and down, and then allow you to area/point track and slew from there. Thanks

You don't, they are not set in the aircaft, but rather on the ground.

Hi mate! New to DCS and F16, after a few years away from sims. Thank you so much for your thorough guides. So… when I autostart, the datalink is working fine, but when I manually start the plane, I’m not receiving any data on the HSD. MIDS is on and the settings in the DED seem identical, so what am I missing? Thanks!

Bomb code was bad terminolgy....I meant laser code? Can't you set the laser for a laser guided weapon in the F/A-18? You saying the F-16 doesn't have that capability or am I remembering incorrect?
Not in the F-16. In the real Hornet, you are just entering the laser code to match that set on the ground.

Keep the F-16 videos coming Mr Wagner. Great job. Can't wait to fly this thing. Two of my top favorite aircraft of all time are the F-16 and the P-47 and followed closely by the F-4 Phantom II, fingers crossed we can get them all in DCS very soon.
The P47 was supposed to be done before the Spitfire but due to the lack of documentation they've said, it'll take longer
@@SnaxDesAvions They recently put out a newsletter saying that it (P-47) will be done very soon, meaning that they have passed the major hurdles. Now as to the interpretation of the term "Soon" i don't know when that will be exactly, thus i hope that it will be released within the next month or so.
Is there an indication somewhere that the bomb sees the laser? I didn't see anything change in the cockpit when Enfield 11 calls SPOT, should there be something?
There isn't an indication with the Paveway series, because laser acquisition occurs after release.
You would not call spot in this instance at all. Whole JTAC is a bit off in terms of real life procedure. Here, SPOT wasn't possible and was not needed, but that's how JTAC works in DCS. On that note, it would be appropriate to redo JTAC for new modules... I guess, it's already in plans as DCS is constantly improving.

F-16 getting ready to come out? Bunch of videos is showing up all the sudden. Steam shows release date as Sept. 25th. I would love to hear different voices for JTAC and Tanker like random voices. We love you Matt, but hearing the same voice over and over lol.

just wander, are f 16 have hook for carrier landing or it just exclusively for f 18 and f 14
the hook is for emergency landings on runways with a cable break system - of course people will use it to try carrier landings. But in Reality your F16 would be in 100 pieces after a Carrier Break.

While this seems to be missing at first glance, it is fact correct. The Viper has no ability to change the laser PRF for the bomb seeker from the cockpit, it must be set on the ground.

Why f16 has small MFDs?

Just that it is in active development. As you might imagine, this is also an element that will benefit both aircraft equally.
