Agreed, I have nearly the same rig as you and really the only thing we are missing (and hopefully 2024 will allow) is a solid native fps for something like the crystal. Give me a consistent 72fps at native resolution with quad-views DFR like we have in DCS. Dicking around with visual compromises through upscaling, smoothing, etc. is the main thing that ruins the experience for me in MSFS these days.
Borrowed a brief clip from this video for my latest upload (Why Flight Simulator Makes You a Better Pilot). Thanks! Good stuff!
I will check it out thanks! :)
Steve you are a VR ambassador, what you portray is very true. I’ve been saying for years, more on the racing side that VR and motion is the ultimate setup for realism in the home.
Of course the real world experience will always outshine VR.
But you can experiment, experience, and make mistakes in VR that in the real world would be fatal or very expensive.
I’ve been doing to much real world stuff of late, so have neglected the pc a bit.
With all the graphical updates that my fav sims keep getting, my 3080Ti is showing its age. I’m not moaning about the price this time and will invest in a 5090.
The G2 replacement will be next 😊
I did a real world flight lesson, and it was awesome. And if i was loaded, which i'm not, then i would go for my real world license. But even the pilot that took me up was explaining just how expensive it is. To learn and pass your tests it's gonna be £10,000, but per year, to own a plane, cost thousands in storage and maintenance, and that is not even including the cost of actually taking the thing up.
For the cost of just the learning bit of real world flying, you could get everything Steve is using and have a good bit of change. Long live VR flight simming.
Exactly that!! Thankyou for your comment.
Same here, I booked a flight in at Cessna at Leicester aero club not far from me , £200 for an hour with some hands-on once up in the clouds. It was great but I won't be taking it any further at 58 years old. If I was 18 with a possible aviation career in front of me it may have been a different story. So , flight simming ( ish in my case ) is the scratch to that itch. I've just discovered Aerofly FS4 which is built with VR in my mind and it is fantastic, don't even need any controllers as you can use the Quest 3 touch controllers, I do however use a xbox gamepad and the game recognises Thrustmaster etc if you want to use those. You can flick nearly all of the switches in the cockpit using the touch pads , only thing that lets it down in my opinion is the scenery graphics, nowhere near as good as MSFS 2020....at 20000 feet it looks pretty realistic though.
Thanks so much for this. Great infotainment. Also had no idea Bembridge was available my old mum has a caravan there that iv stayed in with the family and its glorious to see it modeled in the sim. Also got an email from burning blue designs as I was watching about Sandown release.. picking them up for sure. Take care bud
Cheers buddy
had to laugh at the thumb nail.. ahh, i remember asking myself silly questions like that, then i realized, its not even a question anymore, of course i have !! 🤣😂
😁😁
I enjoy these flights and talk videos!
Thanks Luke. Super appreciate that!
aaaaaaah Turweston... where the UKs first and only (then ) Cirrus dealer was for many years - Casewright .... I was lucky enough to own and fly their first SR22 G2 demo aircraft , and was there MANY times to visit the guys.. .. ... used to get it serviced at AKKI aviation in one of those hangars... The cafe certainly wasnt that flashy ...a green hut as I recall ! (early 2000's) VERY happy memories indeed for me...cheers Steve. ! BTW- AMAZING to see Sandown.. I grew up there and went to School behind that airport and my band played in the holiday camp just next to the airfield LOL
... ..Great vid as always.. !
I love to hear stories like this from those who do this in real life, thankyou for watching, it's an honour.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Bless ya... its SO amazing to be able to recreate it all in the sim now !
Enjoyable video, again! Flight siming has indeed become incredibly immersive. Had I made this video, my comments would have been very, very similar to yours! Same goes for the enthusiasm :-)
Thanks buddy much appreciated 😊
Agree totally with VR & force feedback in simulators especially. Although a bit pricy & will wait for them to go down. Fairplay to the guys who brought the yoke to the market. As with Formula One, I have been using it for years. Putting the VR to me is like putting a helmet on. Excellent video, and many thanks. 👍
Enjoying this video!
Thanks buddy!
How did you mount the CLS-60 to the motion platform? I just received my DOF H3 but don’t know how to mount the CLS-60 like you have on yours.
Great Video as always Steve! Thanks for taking us along on your flight, I really enjoyed it. It is kind of hard to believe it was just about a year ago when you first got into the SRS U-Shake 6, and boy look at you now a year later! I have to agree with your upgrade path... I think for those on a budget getting a 4080 would be fine and then you must have a good HOTAS setup even before VR in my opinion. Then Haptics and finally go for the motion rig. I haven't messed with Force Feedback flight controls yet, but I am certainly taking an interest in a FF Flightstick. SO you work on getting to the H3 and I'll work on getting into the Force Feedback world and we can compare notes then. Obviously once you have the room, you have to upgrade to the H6... I was flying in it this weekend and it is just a dream! Formed up on my wingman in DCS and got the slightest buffeting (occurred as sway in the rig) and it was just amazing. Take care my friend, until next time.
Cheers mate 😊
Spot on with your comparison will real v sim flight. I also fly for the joy of just being up there.
Brilliant vid as always Steve. I would give anything to try a setup like yours.
Been a long time watcher but still only run a Reverb G2 (and still love it). It's been amazing watching your setup evolve so much over time, and trying a full motion and haptics, vr rig like yours is a dream.
Just so incredibly curious to see how it all looks, feels and comes together.
If you seriously ever consider letting some of us experience it, that would be amazing.
Thanks buddy😊
❤relax movie for this evening. Cheers buddy
Hey man. Thanks for watching ❤️
That was awesome dude, I want my wife to see it so she might get it little more why I dig it. Do take the pic of yourself
I've been to Turweston airfield Steve, near Brackley. You are pronouncing it pretty much correctly 😊. Steve, my real world Cessna experience the pilot that took me up asked if I'd flown before, I said not in a light aircraft and only as a passenger in RAF aircraft during my service in the 80s but I do play MSFS2020 and he said he could tell I had some knowledge and was impressed !! Still wouldn't let me land it though hehe !!
That's a relief mate thanks! 😅
@@VRFlightSimGuy Just up the road from me, locally pronounced Terr west-on, so you were close, just bought BBD Old Warden today, also fairly local to me, love that one, also love the fact I can hanger my //42 Kitfox there too!
Great video again Steve. Next level of immersion is flying with AI ATC to raise your workload when flying.
Speaking of RIAT the weather might be good this year 🎉I’m going Saturday so might see you there 😎🍺
Thanks, another inspiring video
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️☺️
just get the Seat Tensioner. I have upgraded my H2 with it and it feels awesome. Not in particular for GA but especially for Jetplanes. But in all Planes it feels so amazing taking seat in your AC, start up that thing and than right before Takeoff put the Belts on. FFB Stick is next when there are good Solutions out in the near future. And than its really a perfect Sim for me.
And no you dont have to get a RL PPL. Was also on thinking getting it. But its so expensive and funny to say Simming is more versatile for me these days. I can fly what and where i want for free.
Just got a a new PC Steve, 4080 super, 7800x3d, really looking forward to cranking up MSFS! Great vid by the way
Thanks Mike congrats on the new upgrade
@@VRFlightSimGuy the 4090 was a bit too much
No, you never built the full cockpit like some do...... I like the fact you embrace VR for total immersion as I do...
I am now getting smooth 72fps on ultra in VR so better than 2020. 5800x/4080s system. It is also interesting that I get low amounts of data downloaded and it is reasonable load speed even though MS seems to be throttling to less than 100Mb/s ( i have 300mb line). I think the terrain popping is is connected to the Bandwidth that MS are providing. So now they have the servers working they need to increase the speed and capacity of them.
Awesome setup.
Can you please tell me how you implemented motion compensation?
th-cam.com/video/ukjgLyJl_CA/w-d-xo.html
Wonder if in MSFS you could do old fashioned navigation using charts, whizz wheel computers, compass deviation and magnetic variations and all the rest of it.
I believe you still have to demonstrate this for a pilots license you certainly did in my day.
Fantastic clip ,thanks for sharing .
I got the H2 last week and with the help of Teebear over teamviewer last night I’ve finally got the motion compensation working .
I have to say it’s superb in vr .
I’m a real world pilot and using the motion with vr is as real as it gets and great for practice in the light aircraft .
Just a wee question -
Could you please share your setting for the H2 please ,thanks .
Dave from Scotland
The current poor shadows still break the immersion for me (2024 will fix).
For more immersion try fitting an active harness, or G seat. All the best.
My CLS-60 got delayed a little in order to ship it with the firmware update. Glad to hear it makes a great difference in the feel.
Just waiting on DOF reality to release the new version of their rigs with the gear reduction motors so I can officially take this hobby too far. ;)
Hi Steve another great video, I was just wondering how you set up the CLS-60 in msfs as I have this myself. I'm not sure about the sensitivity settings snd what's best for the yoke. Any pointers would be great 👍. Thanks
I took a chance I watched your videos I bought a pie mix a 4070 super was not enough to take advantage of the climax so I ended up getting a 4080 super which is just barely enough
I absolutely love all your videos,
I'm trying to record some flights while in vr.
Can you please share what you're using to record and edit your videos,
Thank you
Thankyou Paul! I don't do anything special really. I use the native image, upscaled.
Old time sinner (simmer) here...
That looks like a great sim rig serup..
You lucky dog..
🐦 ❤
Naaaa, it's all good bro, I'm a lil bit jealous tbh, enjoy.x
I am in training for my microlight license, not PPL, and I think costs are somewhat comparable with MSFS flying with a decent pc in VR. For a PPL I would have to travel a lot further, and costs would at least double if not more. I have too many other hobbies for that.
How are you mounting the Flitesim yoke to the DOFReality platform?
@Steve I am surprised you aren't getting a 6DOF motion rig, because the one you have, while still objectively awesome, is missing the additional level of immersiveness that 6DOF provides. Maybe you can ask DOFRealiity if you can send your H2 back for an ugrade to a H6, considering you are one of their best marketers now? :D
Well, you're not in a full 6DOF motion rig yet, so I would say you have a ways to go before you've gone "Too far" in the hobby.
When my wife questions if my hobby has gone too far, I remind her how expensive RW aviation would be and she’s good.
🤔🤔🤗 but if you want the best of both worlds buy the MU - 2 Mitsubishi
People who think learning to fly to PPL level and then either renting or buying and running your own plane, is cheaper than a full 4090 powered Varjo/Somnium VR rig with full FFB and motion sim pit, has never paid for just one hours worth of AVGAS.
Even with the very best home simming kit on offer today, VR flight simming is orders of magnitude cheaper than real aviation. I know, I’ve been there and done it.
I use a honeycomb alpha, what did you do on the CLS 60 to make up for all the switches on the alpha yoke?
No feedback is the one thing I miss on the sim. I got my pilots licence back in the eighties and you do need to the feel the aircraft esp to trim it out. Trimming with the Honeycomb yoke and most yokes is useless in my opinion.
You still miss a VR Haptic simpit 😀 so you could use all this dials and switches without the mouse
You still dont have active belts, though? Should try the new TensionR Pros from PTActuator. In my rig they are even more important than the seat mover.
👍👍👍👍👍
Hey Steve, love your content. For the last few years, I have looked into a motion rig with the right VR headset that is suitable for enhancing my flying experience. Bc of your content, the Pimax Crystal light was my VR of choice. However im not sold on the h2/h3. What’s your thoughts on the yaw3?
Been thinking the same... what are your concerns with selecting the H3?
Not necessarily concerns, more like preference. I tried them both at FSEXPO, and boy are they different. The major selling point for the H3 is its longevity in the market, accessibility in parts and it does the job. The very things the Yaw lacks, currently. However, with the yaw you definitely feel the motion specially for choppers not just planes (car etc). Its looks more modern and more for the buck. What’s your opinion?
@@Hydraulic-em6uz I'm not qualified to have an opinion yet, I've never even sat in one! I'm interested in helicopters, so I'm thinking a H6 or P6 is the way to go for me. I'm tempted to just build one (I've built static motorcycle (GPB) and car (mostly AC) driving VR sim rigs thus far); I have to say that the hardware is all actually quite simple, and the software is generic and well tested at this point so other than some CAD work and some welding it doesn't actually look to difficult. Very time consuming though. The constant yaw or the Yaw3 looks like a heap of fun though, I wonder if it's worth doing away with the 5th and 6th axis to get that (I think I heard they are adding a heave component?). The DofReality stuff is at a compelling price point though, and I could just spend my time driving and flying instead of building. I only just learnt about the Crystal Super, which sounds like a good jump from my Vive Pro, so I figure I have some more time to think about it, might as well wait for the micro OLED version.
After I get my 5090 then I'll be fine.... well then I'll have to update my cpu, maybe a new case too. Also I'll need new ram.. OMG😢
Hello sir flightsim guy.
I wonder if you would mind to please help me out by offering your insight and opinion on something?
Based on your seemingly limitless experience, which of the following would be preferable for fludity and nice graphics (e.g. legible gauges without zooming in etc.) in msfs2020 vr:
A. reverb g2 and 4090 OR
B. crystal light and a 3090
Much obliged!
Chris
If I can send an invite for you to demonstrate your man cave I would be a happy man for you to demonstrate it. Let me know where you are. 😅
I have all of the above apart from the yoke wich is on the way it's just a shame that the full UK price is around £971.62 even tho it's cheaper then the rest it's not cheap in any way
My friend bulit this motion rig. It moves all direction, but it cost like 10000$ also😅
Which Aircraft is this? Looking for 172 Airccraft I can't find it anywhere.
BTW, flying can be cheaper than you seem to implying. Sound to me that you have not experiances the LAA or BMFA world, not to mention gliding? My share-o-plane probrobly cost only a quater of that of your current setup and I could go for a few years on hangarage/insurance and fuel on the rest. Your motion rig alone was the cost of my share!
Are your videos viewable in 3D using a VR headset? If so, how?
NO , but i think mine has.....Got one 6DOF simrig , 3DOF racing rig, 4 VR headsets , 3 PC's with RTX4090 that said looking forward to MSFS2024 where you will be able to walk everywhere...who needs to travel anymore...much cheaper in VR .
$251 for shipping to the uk
For?
Sorry, that was a bit of a random comment. It’s for the motion platform. I know it’s bigish and it’ll be heavy so would cost a bit to ship but that really is a fair whack. Anyway, I’ve not got the money spare for one right now but I can imagine it’s an absolute dream to own one. That would be the ultimate step for me. Think if I had the money for one, when it arrived I’d let out a little excitement wee 🤷♂️ Fair chance
Hi guys can someone please let me know I have honeycomb yoke with full set of it the i bought MSFS 2020 I downlode MSFS 2020 but cannot downlode Yoke set on my PC, and PC do not recognize yoke can someone please help how to downlod this bad boys, my Pimax crystal is good i can play a lots of VR games but cannot play MSFS 2020 thank you Ron
I'm so disappointed that at this time I should still stick with my trusted G2. NONE of the current "new generation" of headsets can combine all the features of that system with a good price.
Quest3: PROS: superb pancake lenses, very nice color passthrough for XR applications, capable wireless setup, hand tracking, good controllers without rings, good price for the package | CONS: lower resolution display compared to the G2, no native DP connection, inferior sound, bad binocular overlap
Crystal light: PROS: much better display, native DP connection, local dimming, good binocular overlap | CONS: lenses are not AS good as the Quest3, very costly DMAS (to have the SAME sound as the G2...), no hand tracking, average controllers with rings, only low resolution BW passthrough, no wireless connection, bulky design (much heavier than the G2), pretty high price for the local dimming + DMAS + controllers version when including VAT
I just can't believe how incredibly good package the Reverb G2 is even today. It seems that I'll wait for the next generation of headsets.
Are you also still fly in real life or is the $$$ gone due to msfs?
Hey Danny I fly with my friend so it's pretty cheap 😊
@@VRFlightSimGuy That is great to hear - what are you flying in real life?
Hi. Could really do with your help and support with FS2020 and quest 3 headset. I’m using your latest settings for FS2020 but it always either freezes or just doesn’t work even when using virtual desktop streamer. Please can you contact me and help. Thanks. I have ordered the Pimax Crystal Lite which i am now waiting for but would like to get this one sorted
