As a computer programmer I can tell you that writing codes to count votes is not hard. If a code is written to count votes in favor of one elect it must be written on an algorism. This means that the machine would work the same way every time. This would prevent the certification of this machine because it wouldn't pass the test. Howbeit, before, a machine can be used it should be certified.
If the machine is not connected to the internet then they have no way of tampering with it remotely.
The looser will always blame machines, but the owner of a software pays attention and take pride in the reliability of his design, if he sells that out then he sells out his own company.
In the case of Smartmatic, the employees own 10% of it and two more entities own the rest, I dont think they want to mess up that.
In the case of the software, if its placed in a machine without internet connection then they would have to interact with each of them to rig the whole system. There are 82k of them in the US, I dont see how the could carry out that operation
