I believe that if he hadn't done the above he probably would still be employed even with a poor record.
As a patriots fan, when I ask myself "did Jerod deserve to be 1 and done?" I compare him to the most recent coach who undisputedly deserved 1 and done, Urban Meyer. and in comparing Jerod and Urban and asking the question "what mistakes did Urban make that I can confidently say Jerod didn't make?" the only answer that comes to mind is "well Jerod didn't kick nobody" and while that's good.....that's just not enough.
I know zare franklin of the colts has to go! Get that out there pat, he’s an ego mania that wont keep his mouth shut. The colts can get anybody to make tackles, but what he said on his show about the giants bit him on the butt, we don’t need guys like that on this team. Buckner called out a few players that has ego problems but didn’t mention any names but we can pretty much figure out who he’s talking about. Franklin is definitely one of them. And he’s got to go now!!
I wish the Pats would have just hired Vrabel last season instead of wasting Mayo’s time. And I don’t want to hear about the bright side of Mayo gaining head coaching experience for 1 year.
Patriots should have never fired Belichick. Everyone knew Mayo wasnt a better coach than him. He could have used at least a couple more years learning under Belichick.
We all know he got fired for winning against the Bills, and losing out on the #1 pick. They could have traded the #1 for the #2, and then the #2 for the #3 or #4. They lost out on multiple additional 2nd and 3rd round pick because of that win. That's some really good potential they missed out on, that could have filled a lot of holes. It was the final nail.
As a Patriot fan IMO BETTER TO GET IT OVER WITH NOW because his style and way WASNT WORKING and WOULD NEVER HAVE taken the Patriots back anywhere near FORMER GLORY LET ALONE CONTENTION.
When it comes to the Jerod Mayo situation while I understand coaching is one of those positions that receives a lot of flack no matter whether it’s deserved or not, however, I feel like this is a bad move for the Kraft family & the Patriots. I say that because they put him in an unwinnable situation meaning there's only like 5 or 6 people worth anything & there was no way they were going to win their division.
He might have the potential to be a good coach, but he kept committing unforced errors in the media. It's not about the record; he is at the very least undercooked. This is why it's a good idea for a guy to spend a few years as a coordinator first, so he can learn the administration and diplomacy in a lower-pressure environment, before stepping up to be a head coach. Give him a few years as a coordinator somewhere else, and see how he does, and if he picks up the diplomacy and administrative skills, and then maybe give him another shot at a head coaching job and see how that goes. This move, elevating a half-position coach directly to head coach is just baffling.
@ While that's all fair & could be true I feel like this decision simply came down to since New England had a bad season because at least in my opinion they didn't plan for a future without Brady & Belichick which they’ll never admit they used Mayo as a scapegoat.
Mayo shouldn’t have even gotten the job. They just handed it to him cause he’s a patriot. And then when he decided to look out for his best interest they show him the door. Incompetence.
I didn't even know that stat about Belichick's first year with the Pats 5-11? Vs 4-13 What if Mayo was the guy and just needs the time Everytime a win fast decision is made, the org is looking five years later worse for wear
The browns had baker. They messed that up so bad. With the talent they could have put around him, had he took less money would at least made us bowl competitive. I hear that we are in for another 20 years of let down!
Browns should steal the Falcons playbook, sign a vet and draft a qb at #2. You buy the rook time, and can compete right away, while having the qb of the future in your building. Highly unlikely they will be in position to address the situation the following year, if so they're all fired. If not they're trading picks again to go get a guy, or playing FA vet qb game yearly like all those Colts teams did. Also this regime has yet to draft a qb they wanted outside of taking a flier. KS didnt pick Baker and neither did AB. IMO its their last chance to take a swing.
Mayo was not ready for the trash heap that the team was. This has nothing to do with Mayo as a coach he will be a fine coach in the league someday, and everything to do with cheapskate Bob and putting Mayo in a no win situation.
Everybody dogging Jerod Mayo, but no one is saying that one year, with a rookie QB and no WR talent, wasn't enough time for a fair evaluation. He most definitely wasn't the worse coach in the NFL. Rumors of him losing the locker room is the most concerning allegation if it is true and was the only thing to justify him getting fired with such a limited chance. Bill Belichick wouldn't and didnt do any better with what Jerod had to work with. Starting Maye wouldn't have changed a thing and some would argue, hindered his development behind that offensive line. I wouldn't expect anything less from Boston tho.
It’s ironic Bill roasted the Jets for firing Saleh and said they didn’t give him enough time after nearly 4 years…… then didn’t say anything about his old team firing a coach after one year. Hypocrite

I compare him to the most recent coach who undisputedly deserved 1 and done, Urban Meyer. and in comparing Jerod and Urban and asking the question "what mistakes did Urban make that I can confidently say Jerod didn't make?" the only answer that comes to mind is "well Jerod didn't kick nobody" and while that's good.....that's just not enough.
Not a single Patriots fan will tell you they wanted him as HC.
The one guy who made winning all those years look easy was Tom Brady...
Patriots should hire Ben Johnson from the Lions as head coach.
As a bucs fan who wants to retain Liam Cohen, LETS GOO VRABEL 😂
Look at Robert all Proud of Mike G.
1 and done! Sheesh, I bet that year felt like a decade for the snow birds
Kraft heard one name being interested in coming back to coach and had to move on. He'll be all in on Gruden.
Pat low key hating on Denver . For their qb situation done before colts 😂
They never wanted to hire him to begin with. But it was in the contract. A contract that was written when they assumed he would get a job elsewhere.
Patriots should have never fired Belichick. Everyone knew Mayo wasnt a better coach than him. He could have used at least a couple more years learning under Belichick.
Within 10 days Mike Vrabel will be the Patriots Coach.
Vrabel should have been the coach all along 😅
Greatest sports dynasty in history !?!?? No way! That's the islanders ! 4 cups in a row !
lol everyone commenting before they see the content of the video. Got the title wrong pat 😅
As a Patriot fan IMO BETTER TO GET IT OVER WITH NOW because his style and way WASNT WORKING and WOULD NEVER HAVE taken the Patriots back anywhere near FORMER GLORY LET ALONE CONTENTION.
We all knew Bill loves young “players”
Bill is the one that left us with a garbage team.
I think patriots looking for a more experience coach but they did wrong to mayo could have gave him one more season 6:27
Nah, he lost the job from his press conference. I would have fired him before he coached a single game. He's not a leader. Go back and watch it.
They're hiring Vrabel. It's pretty obvious
Mayo shouldn’t have even gotten the job. They just handed it to him cause he’s a patriot. And then when he decided to look out for his best interest they show him the door. Incompetence.
How the F could Vrabel not have a job this season, and we had big condiment jacking up the gig?
I didn't even know that stat about Belichick's first year with the Pats
5-11? Vs 4-13
What if Mayo was the guy and just needs the time
Everytime a win fast decision is made, the org is looking five years later worse for wear
The Broncos had Sean Payton evaluating QB’s to find a new one and the Browns are the Browns
The browns had baker. They messed that up so bad. With the talent they could have put around him, had he took less money would at least made us bowl competitive. I hear that we are in for another 20 years of let down!
Vrabel was available last year too 🤷just saying.
Bill knows something about stealing playbooks...
Intern needs to change the title
No more Coach Hoodie in New England.. I'm still trying to digest that one..
The defense went backwards and that got Mayo fired plus this was planned three years ago to get Vrabel but Tennessee fired him so they had to move
Once again pissing all over the Rooney Rule
Because it's deserving of a good ole piss
Rooney Rule is a joke. What rule can tell any owner who to hire.
Yes,yes,yes🎉 🙌
I wouldn’t take broncos playbook. Been how many yrs and no playoffs????? We suck
I’m confused, was this supposed to be about the Browns or Pats?
Hey Bill, Robert Kraft called - he wants his coach back So long as u go 9 - 8 he's got free massages for a year for you! He knows a Gal❗
It’s ironic Bill roasted the Jets for firing Saleh and said they didn’t give him enough time after nearly 4 years…… then didn’t say anything about his old team firing a coach after one year. Hypocrite
With the #2 pick in the draft, the Cleveland Browns will select a QB for sure, and for sure he won't be on their roster come 2028.
that thumbnail is diabolical
hey how did the GOAT of coaches do without Brady?🧐 Just askin’😂
