The entrance to the tunnel was the classic Roman arch, but the inside was the far more difficult and spectacular barrel vaulted ceiling, first becoming popular when they were building the great castles in Europe. It is a great example of using local, FREE, building supplies.
What never ceases to amaze me with your videos is how you guys can squirm through such tiny little spaces while dragging the biggest set of "kahonnies" that a man can have. I personally get claustrophobic watching you climb through areas way down deep underground that some animals won't even go through. Amazing.
A couple of cool pictures in the beginning of how it was 👍 ! Most beautiful garbage dump 😃 ! Dam all that work on the tunnel with the rocks ! Awesome tunnel, the smiles on your faces enjoying this one !! Thanks guys, stay safe !
Phantastic the old Photos you've found about ! The sidetunnels nothing for Bud Spencer 😂... , the stoneworks crazy again all the time i watsh IT i do wear my flintstoneswear 😂 greased and bended my Hair within .... , nice Video 📽️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
That was amazing guys wicked rock masonry and you know what I don’t even know if that sort of craftsmanship can be even done anymore or at least there aren’t many people with the skill to do it? Thanks for sharing your time once again and taking us along for the ride guys👌🏻
Very interesting. The stone arching, most of the mines in our area have that, I love it :). Should get you over here to Northern England, you'd love it :)
Fab explore boys its incredible to think how the miners sunk those shafts hundreds of feet! They were amazing men. That tunnel was one of the most stunning tunnels ive seen & thats including in the UK where we have thousands of beautiful tunnels. Brilliant find boys Stay safe! ❤❤👍
Here's a suggestion. Drop a 'pin' for your location where it pinched closed. When you're above ground, follow to the pinned location, and see what presents itself. It was a beautiful tunnel, I'd love to know more about it!

Phil I’m sure this has been suggested many times but I haven’t read it so I’m going to throw it out there. You need a small drone to send in some of those side tunnels/shafts and get an idea if it’s worth the risk of crawling through or not. And I read a comment in this chat about dropping a pin from your phone and see if you can pick it up above ground and then you can kinda map these tunnels out. Just a thought. Stay safe and stay out !! 👁️
Thanks. I do like the suggestions of using an rc car in that side tunnel. I'd be nervous about using an expensive drone in these places though. Occasionally I try to get a pin while underground ground, but almost never have service
Ancient America...think of the people who came together to build this and what they could have been like...this looks so ancient, who knows how old this really is... I know there are Culvert and Stream maps of Britian, I wonder if the US has the same, it would be so interesting to see the stories behind these, I used to watch a British dude who would tell the entire history and walk through tons of culverts and whatnot...anyway, I don't remember watching this episode so great stuff as always, this is so mind blowing bro.
Now if one of you would've fitted into that tiny death crawl it might've been some trip to sketch paradise if there would've been anything at all on the otherside Great find as always
Just don't get any cooler with all that roof spaghetti hanging down in the water tunnel. Always remember to carry a sharp blade with you in case that stuff ever decides to come alive. lol 😂
So I want to ask how you find these, but I honestly don’t think you’ll tell just to keep people safe (not mad at all about that) But I have to ask what do you do to make sure you don’t get turned around or lost underground? Love videos they are epic! I just watched one from year ago with big shaft and the engines still underground amazing!
Getting lost is very rare but has happened. It helps recording because I can play back the footage to see where I came from. But I sometimes use glowsticks too
The drainage tunnel looks like it was 'dry stone.' I did not see any mortar in the arched ceiling. They must have worked hard to make it. In that section at least, the ceiling looked very strong and after how many decades?
Thats crazy, the little tunnel off the main one, screw that, send a remote car inside and see how far it goes. Otherwise very neat video adventure just all the others. thx for the trip
I don't like the thought of crawling through tight spaces knowing I can be crushed I've seen videos where people are crawling through caves with a 20 inch gap between the ground and ceiling with 10 in of water crawling through to get to the other side. That's my fear Rather leave it to you guys.
Wow I love the exploration Vids but man you guys are taking chances that you don't need. These shafts are 100s of feet deep, You should be tied off for safety.
Pushing it as far ‘as you can’, isn’t that far, because, you guys are robust. Unlike, the adventuretwinsactivate, who climb into holes as big as my fist. You two, look at something that ‘looks off’. Even though it looks like it has been that way for 1 or 2 hundred years. And, today is the day. And, you are all ‘you go check it out’. The wonder twins, ‘dude, this looks sketchy’. But, ‘I’m sending it’! They wear size four shoes, carry 500’ of rope, but, will jump onto someone else’s rope and say, ‘this looks sketch but I’m going to do it, anyways’. They will rappel 300’ through a waterfall and, yet, if they hear ‘a noise’, OR, see blood, they are outside the entrance of the cave, two hours earlier than what it took to see the blood! I’m writing their speaking points: Dude. Dude. This is so cool. Right, dude. Right. Cool. This is soooo cool. Right. Look up there, it’s a hole that is the same size as my head, it should be good. I’m sending it. Whoa, that’s sketch. It’s so cool. These crystal formations, did you see this. This is cool. And, that’s a wrap. I’m confined to a f**king wheelchair, if I heard ‘something’, 2 miles underground, knowing something shouldn’t be there, I feel duty bound to see if another caving enthusiast isn’t wedged into something I have to investigate. If it’s a bear or bobcat, I’m not going to be afraid. Isn’t like they’re getting a normal diet and plenty of exercise. They probably prefer you put them out of their misery. Or, carry a handgun. ‘Dude’.

Nice find.
Incredible the people who built those tunnels…

Damn, Phil.. This place is outa' hand! Great find guys!
Phil excelente 👌 vídeo!!!! Que lugares tan hermosamente aterradores!!

Tommy's got the best one liners lol. They just come so naturally to him
Gimli would be proud of you two. Great video and really shows the extent to how tunnel engineering was done back in the day...
It’s not a Saturday night without Phil and the gang. Bloopers were epic today! Awesome as always guys!

The pictures are from a colliery close by used as an example. But I really wish I could find some actual ones of this shaft!

Best tunnel of all time🎉🎉
Neat explore! That military tire at 3:02 looked pretty decent...
Love the temple of doom!! Awesome video Phil.
Very cool! Keep it up guys.
Best discovery yet. Amazing stonework, amazing.
Excellent video as always keep up the great work 👍👍👍 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 💪💪💪
Thank you for sharing this adventure. That tunnel was epic ❤❤❤

I'd love to swing by sometime!
@@AmazingPennsylvania Yeah their mines are pretty cool Phil check em out.
Great one as always!!! Love these videos. Pieces of American/PA history
Incredible how strong and durable the arch is.
awesome dude. almost like the catacombs, minus the bones. real craftsmanship there.
Love seeing the historical photos of how it used to look! Would love to see more of that ! Great finds, safe travels!
Cool place love the stone work

I'd love to but service cut out pretty quickly inside the tunnel
Yeah satellites don't usually git signal underground
9:33 I’m ready Phil 🙋♂️
I like the rc car option better lol
Your knowledge of these mines is amazing.
The bloopers are gold
I am glad I found your channel. Awesome. So they built these tunnels for the bears to go back into their own bear world :D
The stone work was absolutely stunning.
Lol, around 4:30 the both of you pondering about crawling - You already knew you were going in lol

Let’s Go!
You guys need a little RC rock crawler to drive down that tunnel!
I was screaming that at the TV watching Blind Frog Ranch the other day.
amazing infrastructure of the past
Nature made 70's bead curtains! 😅 but naw man, that tunnel was epic to say the least! Imagine the time it took to build that.🤯
Those roots need a drink!!
I can hang off the highest heights and it doesn't bother me. But crawling through tight spaces like this is a big no for me man.
Just don't get any cooler with all that roof spaghetti hanging down in the water tunnel. Always remember to carry a sharp blade with you in case that stuff ever decides to come alive. lol 😂
I got a razorblade in my pocket brother at all times ;)
@milemarker_oscar_mike Haha 😂😂 roof spaghetti !
Just 2 dudes finding scary holes 😂
HOLY CRAP !!! Stay safe, my 2 friends !!
That long tunnel at the end of the video seems to end near a shaft going by the amount of rubbish dumped there (car tyres etc).
Good point man!
Thank you.
Thank you for some reference pictures of what was made what.
Beware of Tommyknockers
I'm harmless :)
I thought Kentucky was bad for mines. But it's nothing compared to Pennsylvania
You need a radio control car with a mini camera.
Agreed. The mystery of where it leads is bugging all of us!
Water and deep holes would be hazardous.
You need to get a skinny spelunker to go down that side hole. I'd thums up for that!
In a bikini and knee pads😂

You guys carry one of those collapsible shovels in your back pack.😅
I wonder how they built that stone walled tunnel, amazing craftsmanship
Theres one like first one that you can hear water rushing i think part of jeddo tunnel in Lattiner

First❤🎉
Damn dude first on a apa vid is saying something lolol :)
“Speechless”
With all the talk of storm water and still no Daniel Plainview out take. I am sad about it.
Tommyknockers!!!
Thats crazy, the little tunnel off the main one, screw that, send a remote car inside and see how far it goes. Otherwise very neat
video adventure just all the others. thx for the trip
That side tunnel has been bugging me for a while. I gotta know where it goes!
Hey Phil, I’d love to get in contact with you about some opportunities for you to film some content in a mine close by me in Pa
The force and quantity of the water that carried those tires that deep was not insignificant!
Looks so old wowww
Stuff of nightmares.
A bear in the tunnel would be kinda emBEARacing

They filled it full of culm and waste rock to the bottom I hope lol felt pretty solid and hasn't changed in years
🙏😎
Why is their tires? lol
Water
I guess it flooded once and all that junk washed in
load coal!!!!!!!!
Do these tunnels ever have an end?
Yes and it's driving me nuts that I can't find where this one turns out
U guys😂😂😂😂
Made from the bottom up

Your right Phil , that stone work is a work of art
