    Sherif Ali ibn el Kharish (a portmanteau character from the movie Lawrence of Arabia [1962]) was played by Omar Sharif - which is, I believe likely, the reason Mr. Welch included his picture.
    Sheriff in English is really a portmanteau word from 'shire' (county) and 'reeve' (official appointed by, and to guard and administrate the interests of the landowner).
    In Arabic Sherif (and Sharif) indicates noble descent from the line of the prophet and honourable character.
    As the Hin meaning has a little of both of these ideas, and also makes its own, Omar Sharif seems quite an apt Winona substitute (forfend there could ever be such a thing! lol).

    The Hin are the coolest halflings.
    And of course Farrow suffers a grim fate, he's been retconned by Wizards!

    Curious, maybe I just missed it, but aside from the joke at the beginning. There seemed to be no mention of Deputies, do Shariff's have the right to deputize Hin, (Or possibly passing Adventurers) if so how many Deputies do they tend to keep around? Or do they only Deputize in emergancies whene extra bodies are needed.
    I could see there being no need for any offical law in this regard. Heck with some of the lore, I could see most Hin having some form of civilian legal enforcement powers that would make the act of Deputizing them redundant. That and with their cultural practice of voluntary aid I could see a Shariff guilting or otherwise compelling locals to act without needed a means to do so with he backing of any manner of legal power.
    I just figure this information couid be useful for crafting plot hooks.

      The shires have keepers, which are under the clan chiefs. The sheriffs will use the shire military units if necessary, but most investigations are handled far below the sheriff level

      @@Mr_Welch Ty, for the answer. I think I understand. SO if you wanted someone to employ a group of adventurers to settle a matter it'd likely be a Keeper. As the Sheriffs are a bit higher up the food chain.

      @patrickbuckley7259 think of sheriff's like governors, the clan chiefs as county commissioners and the keepers are constables. The names don't follow traditional positions in real life

    @Mr_Welch 9:08 This reminded me of the scene from "Stripes" where John Candy was explaining to his bunkmate how he had to make his bed because they were in Italy. 😊
    BTW, did you receive my email?

      @@johnbalk6091 to answer your question though follow the thaco advancement pattern. Fighters lower thaco 1pt per level, thieves 1pt every 2, clerics 2pts every 3, wizards 1pt every 4 levels

    • @johnbalk6091
      @johnbalk6091 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mr_Welch Alright, so does a fighter advance to a point where his THACO is a negative? Do you then have it where it's now a THACO to hit AC 1, etc? Or does it stop at a 2?

    • @Mr_Welch
      @Mr_Welch  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @johnbalk6091 easily. But the epic level monsters could an AC as low as -14. Plus a large number of special attacks had negative modifiers, the smash ability was -4 to hit but added the entire strength score to damage

    Why do they call halflings "hens"?

    • @Mr_Welch

      Blame Ed Greenwood. He decided the name of the race was the hin, halfling is the slang term
