I saw where the 'Horological Finishing and Decoration' book you recommended was being auctioned by Baer & Bosch Auctioneers, and their estimate was US$300-400. Then I saw it was available for US$153 including shipping to the U.S. from Editions-Simonin, a bookstore in Dombresson, Switzerland. It's their item number 5640 for the English version.
I ordered a copy February 2024 and they said they had a few copies more. It arrived after eight days in professional packaging and was in new, shrink-wrapped condition. I didn't see a printing date or edition number in my copy; I figure the reprints you mentioned are all the same original edition.
It's a very good book I didn't know existed, thanks for showing it to us in your video!

I have a crazy dream of making my own watch from scratch. You mentioned a few books. I would really like to hear a few more recommendations on books if you have the time. I’m looking for something like “watchmaking for dummies.”

Check out "practical watch repairing" by de Carle and "Watchmaking" by Daniels

    Thanks for the Q/A!
Totally looking forward to the 1003 video series! I was stoked to be able to order one as my first Weiss watch. I'm in complete f-ing amazement at what you've put together. 👏

Greetings from Australia! As a new, hobbiest, watchmaker, I find your videos invaluable. You go into incredible depth, regarding seemingly simple issues, but there really isn't anywhere else to learn this stuff. Keep up the great work! PLEASE!

Awesome video as usual Cameron! Mechanical timepieces are part science and part art and you either get it or you don't. There is something magical about them. People who appreciate such things are in the minimum that's for sure but I don't think our hobby or artisanry will ever die out. Sadly modern smartwatches will dominate for a while still until people get fed up with the constant intrusion from the technology. Speaking of Land Rovers haha... I don't know if you have thought of it but have you thought of doing a British racing green or Camel Trophy yellow dial colors? I agree with you. Old things are better because they have been carbon neutral years ago and they are easier and more economical to run and repair. Those electrical cars scare the hell out me... Hope you have a great week!

Love your videos! Quick question: what do you recommend for an inexpensive timegrapher and demagnetizer?

Check ebay for "Timegrapher No.1000". They are cheaper copies of the Swiss Witschi machines. Obviously not as good, but for light use and hobby use they are fine. For demagnetizer check ebay for a small blue demagnetizer. They are cheap but work fine for most watches.

For someone who wants to get a job servicing watches for a brand like Rolex, and restoring/servicing watches on the side, would you recommend going to the watchmaking school in Seatlle?
