Police Interceptors come with a horn ring loop that's taped to the right of the steering column. Small gauge wire. The purpose of the loop is to provide a horn ring signal to change siren tones or activate an electronic air horn. Most sirens have a horn ring in and horn out post on the back to allow normal car horn operation when the siren is not in use. If this is a retired vehicle, I would look for that small gauge wire to the right of the steering column and soldier it back together. I can send you a picture of what I'm talking about if you'd like. Sometimes that wire has been extended as well. It's a 20 ga wire that is green with a purple stripe.
My 2014 ford explorer police interceptor's horn doesn't work either. Bought mine at auction so ex police car. Would sure like to see those pics myself. Thanks
Yo Eric! Let's just say all my test lights got a solid workout on this trip. Now at times I wished I had a LoadPro and 4 hands, but they still did the trick haha
My only issue with the jumper wire is on 97% of police cars I have seen the horn botton changes the cadence on the siren and then the horn comes back once the siren is off
Ivan next time you get one of those police cars there is a looped wire under the center stack where the factory power points are if they cut that loop to tie in a siren horn tone transfer using the horn buttons 2015 up they move the loop in the harness under ignition key switch you will see it it's not taped up with the rest of the harness it sticks out of the tape if these wires are not hooked together the circuit won't be completed and horn won't work from buttons
good tip! I was just going by the wiring diagram, but it is possible that if this was a decomissioned police version, then the horn circuit would have been modified and left disconnected.
i realize this was probably the shops call not yours but it has been my experience that a bypass can be a valuable testing tool but not a good long term solution. somewhere is a damaged wire loom which means additional potential problems. Always best to trace it out and solve the problem. Which could still be a jumper wire...just my $.02 :)
If it was a short to ground, like a harness rubbing on a bracket, then tracing it is definitely the way to go. In cases of an open wire, just depends on the ease of access to the harness.
happy543210 you can't assume that on police interceptors.... these are so heavily modified & constantly updated or equipment being changed, that could be another technician's mistake or some other equipment install that caused this. It's not like they come out of the factory with everything they use and the amount of different people working on them is also just another issue. I personally have done work on interceptors too, so I know 1st hand. It's battle between the dealer techs & police garage techs. Get me? 😉
Does anyone know a similar website to BBN Industries, but with European and Japanese models of makers ? I created an account with BBB, but they only list US Ford models. Thanks.
I have a 2015 PUI and I also have no horn but when they decommissioned the vehicle and took out the siren and light controls the cut the wires in the center console so would anyone know which color of wire would be for the horn that would run to the center console? I keep trying to look it up but I find myself going down the rabbit hole.😂
I have the same problem and I'm going to try to tackle it this weekend. I've never installed a jumper wire before. Do I just pull the violet and green wire out of the harness, connect an extension wire, then connect the other end directly to the horn switch? (I understand that any information provided is purely educational and that you are not responsible for any potential damage to my vehicle due to my dumb actions)
Hey Ivan if you ever get any e350 or 450 stripped Chassis Vans let me know, I have quite a bit of experience with those and know quite a bit about different chassis manufacturers and how they connect components to the Ford oem side.
ONBOARDTECH333 Sure Keith, no problem. You, Ivan, Eric O going to Automekanica in July this year? The training event is free, just have to pay for food and hotel. Good instructors will be there, John Thornton and Scott Manna to name a few.
hey great video I have a 01 Isuzu Trooper that I'm having difficulty removing the connector from the ABS unit under the hood the one the actuator unit any advice there is no screw there may be some kind of a retainer clip but I don't know how to get it off any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time
Colin Fisher Easily found all the time in the interceptors, as they're constantly modified with various equipment or tag readers, etc. Especially if it's a decommissioned interceptor, more likely.
I had to get a device that connects to the port underneath the steering wheel on one end, and USB on the other. They're about $30 on Amazon. Downloaded FORSCAN (Free program) and changed settings. This fixed the bluetooth issue and let me set a bunch of other stuff.
Juan Ortiz I wouldn't consider him a diagnostician. He knows his Fords in & out and knows the common issues that occur. He can diagnose and knows how things work but I don't think he's on Ivan, Keith, Eric O, or Danner's level. I'm not knocking him because I find him helpful too, & to me, he may be a better mechanic (turning wrench wise) than those guys with the exception of Eric O. Slonya23 I hope you find what looking for though. If anything, subscribe to those main channels & even the ScannerDanner.com premium to get better understanding Get the book. You can't beat the cost compared to a regular school or class for diagnosis, and you can do it at your own time & pace.
Jumper wire definitely the right decision on that kind of vehicle. Its not worth messing about with the harness. Girls? Just out of curiosity Ivan do you have any watching? I know AvE did mention that like only a few percent of his audience were women. I don't know what its like with the car channels like you, ScannerDanner, Dr O or pure electronics channels like EEVBlog.
zoidberg444 I'm a female mobile tech, I watch Danner, SMA, New Level, Ivan.... I think they're the main automotive channels. I love it. I binge watch all the time, but then again, it pertains to my work & I learn off them. I'm also ScannerDanner.com premium subscriber. Knowledge is definitely power and makes jobs easier, stress free, more time for the next or just other things.
I'm a girl & I watch Danner, SMA, Keith & Ivan.... so, yeah, girls watch. I'm a mobile tech in Philly, so I'm learning & it's just a pleasure to watch them work. In other cases, it's great to see that we all get the same kinds of hair pulling trouble vehicles too. Lol I binge watch in batches, that's how much I enjoy their videos. I prefer it over any other TV or movie, etc. The more I learn, the faster I can get through jobs, the more time I have for other things or more jobs. Priceless!! I'm greatly appreciative of their videos & the time they take to do them! 🤗🤗🤗

Emergency Sight & Sound hey man can you send a pic of what you're talking about?
can you post a picture please thanks

@josha.b doge 2 thanks for the help and I will see what I can send or video I can make.
Did you ever post a picture of this?
Welcome back Ivan ! Always look forward to your Staten Island diagnostic repairs 👍
Thanks so much for the excellent description, bought a ex police explorer and this is the same issue !
brilliant , nice easy fix , good diag Ivan !!
test light ftw!
haha and a homemade one as well!
Yo Eric! Let's just say all my test lights got a solid workout on this trip. Now at times I wished I had a LoadPro and 4 hands, but they still did the trick haha
motoYam82. Woulda been a job for the B.F.H!!
motoYam82 hello how did u make your test light.....
Great find. Scanner Danner would be proud of you,.Ivan. I wish I had your diagnostic qualities.
Police Utilities have a horn loop wire under the center of the dash where the console would normally be for tying into emergency equipment.
Nicely done Ivan.
Ivan in a short bus... No comment.
Hey, I used to take the short bus every day! Faster off the line than a long bus xD
Nice quick diagnosis Ivan...now on to 7.2
I have enough footage to get to 7.10!
HAHA good look forward to seeing them!
quick diag. great job
Well done. Like finding a needle in a haystack. Thanks Ivan!
Nice and quick
Who needs a horn when you have all those sirens and chirpy noises, though! ;D
Nice work love bypass test . Cheers

I need to fix the police aux wires. How do we remove the switches so we can fix it
Nice one. Yeah, a jumper wire will do the trick. Good enough for an Explorer. :) Love the test light!
Excellent vid. Thanks for the bbbind site, been looking for free diagrams. Looks like you have another subscriber
Can you provide a link to the bdd site for wiring diagrams? If it on here I'm not seeing it. thanks John
wires don't break by themselves. if one broke, there will be others...ford quality!!

Nice one Ivan. Ep 7.1 hum not sure what that's all about . Its code for something LOL
Secret code: 7.1 is Trip 7, Episode 1 :)
I tried this and it did not work at all for my 2014 interceptor utility...
Dash lights went out instead.
Lmao you goofed
Did you fix it
Actually I did lol had repair what ever I cut but its good now.
@@justicebarber9080 how did you fix the horn. I currently have my whole inside removed as well as the airbag out of the steering whee
Video was too short! Also, thanks for including the girls, there must be a number of them who watch these good diagnostics!
You might regret the jumper wire when they hand you a ticket 👮?

Thanks Mike, that is good to know! I've had more experience with GM vans...just get that warm fuzzy feeling working on a Chevy v8 :)
busjockey1 Does that extend to me too? 🙄
ONBOARDTECH333 Sure Keith, no problem. You, Ivan, Eric O going to Automekanica in July this year? The training event is free, just have to pay for food and hotel. Good instructors will be there, John Thornton and Scott Manna to name a few.
busjockey1 Already booked sir. plane and hotel. I never miss these type of conventions
No Chicago road trip this year?
hey great video I have a 01 Isuzu Trooper that I'm having difficulty removing the connector from the ABS unit under the hood the one the actuator unit any advice there is no screw there may be some kind of a retainer clip but I don't know how to get it off any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time
Hello... how did u make your test light u plugged into the data link connector to.....
Hope to hear back from u
Thanks
I don't disagree that a jumper was the way to go, but it would have been interesting to know how that connection failed.
On Staten Island you never ask too many questions lol
Colin Fisher Easily found all the time in the interceptors, as they're constantly modified with various equipment or tag readers, etc. Especially if it's a decommissioned interceptor, more likely.
Have you had any issues with bluetooth with this vehicle? Mine will connect but no audio plays

Those colored wiring diagrams are ford factory wiring diagrams.been like that since 2010sh
Any recommendation to a diagnosis guy like yourself in Chicago area ?
As far as I know, Chicagoland is the mecca for mobile diagnostics.
motoYam82 fordtechmakuloco is in Chicago area he also has TH-cam chanel and mobile diagnostic business
thanks Ivan for the great video 👍

motoYam82 HUM, call me skeptical.
