I love it when my psychological indie horror game suddenly turns into Touhou. Okay but like actually this boss was pretty hype, i really hope they do more like this in the future chapters
This is the most sorrowful, moving boss tracks I've heard in a while. You feel the weight of Miss Knives' deeply tragic past with the gentle instrumentation and that soaring violin. It really does sound like she's crying out in agony as she's reminded of who she once was, especially with that flute. There's a bit of a flamenco flair with some of percussion that adds to that vibe as well. I also really love the tasteful combination of classical and contemporary instrumentation. The electric bass and drums provide a wonderful groove that's not intrusive, the clock serves as an interesting switch up to the drums that integrates well with her/the story, and the record scratchy bit a little over halfway through the track builds on the clock idea without sounding out of place. This is the kind of music I dream of writing, my best wishes to the both of you I hope you keep working on this game it's fantastic :) Edit: Something that completely slipped my mind until just now is the fact that the theme of this song is closely related to if not constructed out of tiny bits from Lacie's theme. The similarities are easiest to hear in Every Day Lacie in my opinion, and there's also a bit out of the second repeat in Lacie's Lullaby that sounds very similar to the clock section. I'm not 100% percent confident in this but it would make SO MUCH thematic sense. Lacie and Miss Knives were both randomly cursed at a young age, their parents gave on them both, they were shunned the same, and both have similar feelings of having their life ruined and wanting to return to normalcy. Miss Knives, being tortured and experimented on for god knows how long, displays this in an unhealthy way by creating a reality where she lives in her (supposed) childhood house or some approximation. She is stuck in the past and unable to let go. On the opposite side of the spectrum we have Lacie who, while being similarly traumatized, is more forward thinking. She's not stuck trying to relive the years before she was cursed, she's out there trying to fix the root cause of her issue. Her willingness to do so definitely stems from other issues as a result of such extreme ostracization but that's an issue for another day. My point is that Lacie and Miss Knives are basically two different sides of the same coin and so it would make sense if their musical material is connected. I'm so tempted to turn this into an unapologetic ramble about how genuinely fantastic Miss Knives' story is and how the pacing and gameplay service your interest in it. This is the most invested I've ever been in a character maybe ever, but definitely since becoming obsessed over Spamton from Deltarune. Let me know what you think about my little theorization, thinking about doing a video on this now

@@drdovaqueen I wanted to preserve that sorrowful storytelling with a gentle but intense touch throughout the music, which makes changing things very hard for me because I feel like any change I make will ruin everything lol. I don't want to just change instruments either and call it a day because I feel like that's really lazy. The best way would probably be to explore different kinds of emotions to convey, I feel like.
I think this is my favorite out of them all, it is such a good tune that holds a bit of a tense, finale sort of vibe. It would work well in a boss fight ;)
The aesthetics, music and gameplay give me memories of undertale. But much more intricate and mature. Absolute masterpiece that deserves to become a popular indie game.
