"The Other Side Of This Life" is the ultimate marker which demonstrates how far and fast the group's style evolved over the years. You can take each extant version from this one onward and see them continually re-invent it into something that sounds unrecognizable from the charming early folk-rock version heard here. It's funny too that this seems to be the only studio version that exists, as all the rest are live. But all versions are well-worth checking out.
For me, this is the transition from folk to acid rock in one recording. Progressively becomes more acid as the recording plays on. A great capture in music history, and always great to hear Signe.
Wish it had been added to the JA Takes Off compilation. There are also a few more Signe concerts I would like to see released. They should have done both the early & late shows when they released her farewell show. They released both the early & late for Grace’s debut.
I prefer the Fred Neil original. Same as I preferred the Fred Neil original of Everybody'd Talkin'. Fred was the most underrated singer songwriter in the history of the world.
Pretty good .... like ' come up the years '. I heard Eric burdon & the animals version before the j.a. one . Both are fabulous . The original lineup more folksy .
@@wayydowneast Well it's true Grace Slick Made The Airplane huge they would of never got the success they had without her I'm not knocking the original line up but the style in the bands music was totally different
@@johntoomey4480 I respect your view and you do make a good point but for me Signe was my favorite, she had the authenticity and blues in her voice that Grace didn't. But in my view no way did they suck before Grace joined, I liked the more folky sound they had. Grace was smart enough to know that they were great musicians and would give her the bedrock foundation to get her talent across or otherwise she wouldn't have joined them.

Fantastic. Crisp. I was a 3 month old baby completely unaware of this great music happening in San Francisco.
on one level "unaware" , yes. But, you were the beneficiary ,in another sense. The people were kinder , cool and gentle.
Fantastic!!
Signe ✨🌺
Glad to find this one! Signe... Also, this one does sail along, has a sense of urgency, just taking off.
This should be released as a RSD single
💗
Send this fossil to the Smithsonian immediately! So close to the Fred Neil original in spirit! R.I.P. Signe.

Great song for its time. Columbia Records turned them down in their early days, as well they did the Doors. That was a stupid idea.
They sound like a more conventional folk group here. They were still working towards an original sound.
That chick before Grace was the shit.
so true
Opposite
Both were vreat

Oh yes. Signe was awesome - the real deal.
Is this live or studio
In studio with audience sound effects added.
is this with jack and skip?
Bob Harvey, the bassist before Jack.
@@wayydowneast Yes, far right in the photo
I'll take the Airplane or The Doors (the The Doors?) over the Beatles any day.
Only like their music with Signe. Grace ruined the band - commercial focus and Narcissist.
They sucked before Grace Slick joined
Feel better now?
@@wayydowneast yes I do and it's the truth
@@johntoomey4480 I’m sure you do feel that way.
