    Thoroughly enjoyed your video on measuring arrow spine, @AddictiveArchery! Your explanations were clear, and the visuals greatly aided understanding. It's evident how vital selecting the correct spine is for optimal arrow performance. Newcomers and experienced archers alike can benefit from this refresher. Looking forward to more content like this!"

    Hey Andy - I've noticed that i get variations in spine (from test to test) if I orient the arrow with grain vertical each time. I then realized that the shaft is rotating slightly when the weight drops (I too have a Ace Model 107). I now mark the top of the grain and insert into the tester and then make sure it doesn't rotate at all when the weight drops. Just wanted to toss that out there. Also want to encourage you regarding your videos. I absolutely love watching these so thanks much for taking the time out of your day to put them out here!! Kindest Regards, Andy

    Liked and subscribed. Thank you for showing how easy it is to operate these readers. I 'knew' about spine testing for wood arrows, but hadn't realised that carbon and aluminium (I'm English), suffered the same thing with rotation. I may have to re-check my aluminium arrows....

    I’m so confused though. How do I know what I’m looking to have spine weight be on a cane arrow w a 50# at 20” draw?

      The ace spin spine in the video is still the best and most accurate in my opinion. I have tried some of the new electric ones. I still like the Ace better.

    Should spine testing be done after shafts are cut to length? I think once u cut them the spine readings will change.

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Static spine will not change. Dynamic will and you need to account for that when figuring spine.

    I’m trying to figure out how heavy of a point I need on the new wood arrows I’m building. I’m shooting a 40# at 28” longbow and I bought 5/16 arrow shafts. And I’m only pulling 26 1/4” Thank you in advance

      125 grain is the heaviest point I know of in a 5/16 diameter. Typical weights are 70, 100, and 125 grain in 5/16 diameter. Call or email me and I can help you figure it out. Thanks for watching.

    I watched the video but hopefully I didn't miss this if you already mentioned it but what if your arrow is too stiff for your bow how does that affect the performance of the flight of the arrow? Same goes for not stiff enough. I know you said that the spine of the arrow is affected by more than just what spine is made for a certain weight but I want to know performance when it's flying through the air.
    Thanks

    • @Jesse-Rockhill
      @Jesse-Rockhill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you shoot left side of the bow and arrow is too stiff then arrow flies to the left. And if its not stiff enough then it flies to the right.
      And If yore shooting in right side of the bow then it’s the opposite.

    another question regarding carbon arrows: how does the GPI relate to spine? i purchased some "350 spine" arrows. tested on jewellers scales and they came up 7.6 GPI despite being advertised as 10.1 GPI. fishy?

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Manufacturers have different tolerance for what they let out. The more you spend on the shafts the closer to spine and mass weight all the shafts will be.
      Shafts with graphics tend to be a little heavier.
      Hope that helps.

    HI Andy... I want to say I love your work and hopefully I will be able to shoot one of your arrows someday. I use thumb draw technique. and I want to built some barrelled arrows similar to Turkish target arrow I have search all over trying to find information about how the shaft tapering would effect the spine. and what spine value I should use with a barrelled arrow. I couldn't find anything unfortunately. Do you have any knowledge on it, any experience with barrelled arrow shafts? Maybe I will start doing myself research on it. I appreciate any response. Thank you so much!

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello and thank you for watching. If you stay out of the center of the arrow shaft with the taper it should not affect spine.

    • @EnriqueLUrcia

      @@addictivearchery1123 Thank a lot for the fast answer! My plan is to use 32 inches 11/32 shafts and the front 1/3 tapering to 5/16 and also the back 2/3 to 5/16. similar to Ottoman and Manchu arrows. My bow pulls 48lbs at 32 inches. So I will start with 32 inches 11/32 indexed at 65´70lbs spine to be on the save side. I rather have a too stiff arrow then a too soft one.

      bearnard blackwell if you are shooting fingers it should be facing the strike plate. If you are shooting a release it should be up.

    Thanks for the instructional vids! Are you familiar with the float test to find the stiff side of the shafts? If so, does the stiff heavy side lay against the riser? Thanks again! Joe

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ole mariner Hi Joe. I’m not familiar with the float test. I’ll have to do some research. You want to get the stiffest side of the arrow up against the riser. On a properly made wood arrow shaft I have not noticed enough difference between the two sides with the grain oriented correctly.

    Those name-brand spine testers cost a small fortune. Most guys who go to these lengths to fine-tune their arrows probably already have the tools and know-how to build a home-made spine tester on a budget.

    Great videos. I'm thinking about buying some wood arrows for my centaur longbow. 50@27. I'm currently shooting a Easton axis traditional arrow cut to 30.5" with a 200 grain point. Draw length of 27in. I was looking for an arrow length of 29in and point wt of 125. What spine would you recommend?

    Is it okay to use a string loop on a longbow and a release just wondering I'm disabled and have very little hand strength still like to shoot when I can thanks.

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      michael hopper yes you can. Just realize, there is no let off on Traditional bows so the “recoil or reaction” will be much more due to you having to hold more weight. Other options would be a mouth tab or thumb ring if your disability allows.

    • @addictivearchery1123
      @addictivearchery1123  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Micah, a 500 spine is equal to a 63 pound wood arrow spine. In order to get you the correct spine I need some more information. I need to know what bow your shooting in order to determine how your shelf is cut? How long do you want your arrows to be? Does the bow have fast flight or a Dacron string? Feel free to email or call me. Thanks for watching.
