Plus when you use maybe 2 quarts a year....I feel like it is money well spent. I plan on removing the governor this weekend and upgrading the valve springs.....then I'll be done. I might upgrade to a torque converter in the next year, but I'm in no hurry at all. I only have $490 invested in the entire setup and I feel like I definitely got my money worth.

Man this is the clearest video of this I've found so far. Thanks. I wonder if you ever did throw a rod? I am nervous about doing this. Some people say its very important to upgrade the springs and rods and some say its fine.
My bike still runs fine. The issue is these kids upgrade the bike and leave it pinned all day long and wonder why the engine says goodbye. Those upgrades would help for sure though. At that point just by the race predator engine.
Hey I got my Coleman ct200u to do about 53 mph remove the governor and inside outside and was using a CVT torque converter belt drive Best Time ever😅😂😂
There is a simple way to remove that governor without fighting with that clip. Remove the flywheel and simply punch out that pin that holds it. The entire assembly will come out. If you want to you can thread the hole in that block for a 1/4-20 bolt of just install the pin back in the hole. Much, Much easier than fighting with the clip...
in the stock form the governor arm(in the crankcase) was pushed out further than it is after this mod. removing and leaving out the plastic cap/nub that sits on top of the "governor stud" allows the governor arm outside the crankcase to let the throttle hang open. add a spring from external gov arm pulling towards front of bike.
really cool video, the only thing is you could of wired open the governor under the seat in a few minutes, I have the same bike and got it at 34 by doing that.. either way cool video and well explained and detail. great job!
You should be able to find the spring that's external to the engine which connects to the governor shaft/lever and either increase the spring strength (which counteracts the flyweights that they removed), or wire it solid in the direction that the governor spring is pulling it. Finding a spring that's the right length and stiffer might be a challenge, but if you can find one, it would be easier than ripping into the engine. Or try shortening the hooked end of the current spring (if you can bend it), which will increase the effective strength of the spring.
I have a ct100 and just picked up a ct200 the other day. Its interesting how I was able to get my 100 to hit 35-40 mph just by removing the limiters on it. It has no torque at all and wont even pull me up a hill in grass but it can fly pretty good on the street. Never had any issue holding it at WOT max rpm for long period of time The ct200 is polar opposite. 10X the torque and balls down low but then just falls on its face/hits the limiters at like 25 mph. Ct200 is much more enjoyable off road but i think my little 100 would fly by the 200 on the street currently. Gonna have to remove the limiter.
Yea I can tell you without a doubt the ct100 has a higher top speed than the Ct200 with just the throttle screw backed out all the way. It may take 1/4 mile to get there but it gets there LOL. Using GPS app on my phone I was seeing 33-35 on the 100 and almost 40 down hill. Id assume its all in the gearing. The ct100 doesnt have a jackshaft at all so has no low end but higher top speed.
I have a ct100u too and it does 38mph with tacking screw off for gov... I put a peddle bike computer on it and programed it to tire size. ps I way about 160. @@NVSRides thank you for this, I really didn't expect thst little nozzle thing behind the carb to make it wanna just go off into space like a rocket. Followed what you showed in it, thank you
18lb valve springs, billet rod, billet flywheel, header, 22mm mikuni carb, torque converter. 60mph easy. The valve springs alone will get you more rpm so more speed. The billet parts are to keep the stock parts from detonating. Carb and header are for better breathing. When you get the rod get one that is .020 longer for more compression.
I took the governor out and all that stuff and then I went to start it back up and it launched and if I hold the brakes all the way in or still moving only thing stopping me from moving is it in the Killswitch what is the cas
Hey, so I took my governor out, and when I took the cover off the camshaft slipped out and I put it back in, and lined up the marks on the camshaft and crank shaft. But now when I start it, it over revs very quickly
Yes the stock Hisun 196 I believe. Thank you for getting back. One more question. I see some talk about upgrading valve springs. What is the benefit of that and which ones do you recommend for my bike?
Now I took out the governor and my bike takes off on its own when I mess with the choke so I did what you did in part 2 and it worked but my bike dosent wanna stay running so everytime I let go of the throttle it wants to shut off when I’m riding
Possibly. If you have one of these Colemans there are better ways to get more speed without the risk of ruining the engine. A torque converter is the best way to 35 plus mph. Look at the comment section here. Others did exactly what he did in this video and caused a dangerous situation when starting the bike. Doing what he did here will cause a full throttle just after the engine starts. Not good. Always get as much info as you can before making changes. Some of the guys in these videos are just as new as you are with these engines and bikes. He does rig up a fix in a part 2 to this video.
@@skillchamp4208 Yes. For the Coleman 200's a torque converter and a stage 1 kit for the engine works great. "Stage 1" is just a rejetted carb, performance air filter and a header pipe. Research as much as possible on these two things before buying parts and doing the work. I would highly recommend channel name "BWX". He has a lot of Coleman videos and proves you can have a great bike without opening the engine or making a mess out of your stock throttle linkage. The only thing he doesn't cover is what to do about the 16mm crankshaft on the stock Coleman engine. He buys 212's to solve that issue. Some of the more expensive torque converter kits will also solve that issue.
hey guys, total mechanical noob here. just ordered a ct200. is just loosening the governor screw so you gain a little speed bad for the engine? i'm not confident enough to take the whole engine off and remove the gov completely .
I would say no. Just makes it rev a little bit higher and gain a little speed. But the governor will still stop it from revving too high. I have my screw out and the governor and the bike still runs great. Just don't go all out all the time
@@NVSRides also, what does the performance kit do differently than just loosening the governor screw? does the performance kit make it run faster? "better"? if all i'm looking for is topping out at about 25 mph for a 190 lb rider, would loosening the gov screw do it? would the performance kit 1 in addition to the loosened gov screw add even more speed? thanks
I can't recall but know I am around 200 lbs in the video. Adding the performance pack won't let you go to much faster because the governor will just kick in and stop you. You will get up to speed faster though.
I just removed my governor but when I start it up, it automatically accelerates to full revs, it literally sounds like it’s gonna blow up, now I’m just wondering why I did all these speed upgrades… :(
Bad idea. You WANT the valves to float unless you are using billet guts. Idk how many times i gotta tell you kids this: For 40+years, ive never had nor seen a flywheel come apart. Con rods broke from incorrect oil level and over revving. Springs will not save you.

Do you have to do all that extra stuff like remove the springs and all that before actually going in to the engine. I see a lot of other videos and they would do all this extra stuff
@@modifyed3579 sorry this is a really really late comment but i engine swapped mine with a predator 212cc hemi engine and if You get one make sure to get a clutch or torque converter
I wouldn't recommend messing with the governor much on an unupgraded motor unless it's a Tillotson or a real Honda, the cast flywheels are known for exploding and sending people to the morgue even at stock RPMs, and from personal experience I can tell you you will warp the valves in a couple hours of use and basically kill the engine and if the rods or crank break you will definitely kill the engine. Best way to get a speed increase on this particular Coleman is to buy a new sprocket for the jackshaft, I believe stock it's a 10 to 20 tooth setup and all you have to do is switch out the 20 to another 10 to double your top speed. It'll be a little slower on the uptake but on flat streets it won't make much difference, if you're planning actually offroading then upgrade or swap the engine and either keep the stock gear ratio or don't change it as much.
Not sure if this is normal but I'm having extreme difficulty removing the engine cover after taking off the clutch... all the bolts are removed it's come up a tad but it won't come off... tried like everything in the book short of taking a crow bar and messing up the cover or gasket.. any suggestions??? It could if you run it all out all the time probably. Mine is still running good though.
smiles tell the whole story. radical.
I did this and my bike went rogue lmao. Almost went through my patio door.
Did you adjust anything after ? Or what position did you leave butterfly valve in?
Check out part 2. I learned the hard way as well.
@@NVSRides Cheers. Subscribed
I take it that fixed it
@@NVSRides Yes, thank you. The beast has been tamed. Now I got parts on order.
Hope you enjoy the bike.
I used 2 fillet knives to get it. There pointy. It worked.
I have a ct100 u i did everything you did but afterwards it doesnt wanna start unless im giving it throttle and ot still doesnt want to stay on or run nearly as good as it did before
MORE MINI BIKE MODS!!!!!! I WANT MORE!!!!!!
+Big Daddy I will try and get some up
Burning Rubber Garage Thanks. I appreciate it.
Burning Rubber Garage Thanks. I appreciate it.
Hey uhh, so I did what yall did, and yes it's going at higher rpms but the rpms go ballistic and I've lost all control of the throttle, what has happened??
Check out part 2
@@NVSRides thank you for this, I really didn't expect thst little nozzle thing behind the carb to make it wanna just go off into space like a rocket. Followed what you showed in it, thank you
Glad it worked. Not a permanent fix but it still works on mine 🙈
Would you also take governor off or leave it with all that?
Useless unless you are running a race kart.
How fast did you guys get to i just bought one yesterday an I want it to go faster
How is it running today?
It still runs and drives. It can be a little cold-blooded. I also do not go out and run it at redline the entire time I ride it.
If I do this will this blow the engine up?
Depends how you drive it. Mine still has not blown up but a few people's have
Is this the same procedure for the Coleman ct200u-ex?
Yes same motor.
How much big speed it gain
Won't even feel like the same bike
Now that I removed it now when I turn my choke off the bike wants to take off any help with that would be great
Turn down the idle.
Check out part 2 see if that fixes it for you.
You have to redo the throttle linkage my friend did it
I took the governor out and all that stuff and then I went to start it back up and it launched and if I hold the brakes all the way in or still moving only thing stopping me from moving is it in the Killswitch what is the cas
Check out part two. My bike did that as well
Do you think it would be OK if I don’t put that boat back in because there’s a little tab on that pin that will make it sort of slide back-and-forth
How do you take out a governor on a GMB100 mini bike?
Do you have to empty your gas
I would because most these bikes leak at the gas cap
What the utility of the governor ?
Can it break the motor if we run without it ?
+Marcfj45 yes you can over rev the mirror and blow it up. If you are careful and not always full throttle you should be fine.
+Marcfj45 just food for thought mine had been out a long time and mine is still going strong
What did you do to go from 20 to 24 originally?
It is a throttle screw in one of my earlier videos if you want to check it out
Hello I just did this to my CT200U and now it wants to drive freely with the choke all the way off?? Please help????😭😭
Check out part two
Hey, so I took my governor out, and when I took the cover off the camshaft slipped out and I put it back in, and lined up the marks on the camshaft and crank shaft. But now when I start it, it over revs very quickly
I could not undo one of the bolts and don't know what to do
Is that some sort of graphite cam or something
Can this process work on the CT200U -EX V ?
If it is the same motor I wouldn't see why not.
Yes the stock Hisun 196 I believe. Thank you for getting back. One more question. I see some talk about upgrading valve springs. What is the benefit of that and which ones do you recommend for my bike?
Not sure what to recommend but when you spin the motor faster it will help be able to take it easier.
@@NVSRides awesome thanks again. Cheers
I have a upgraded carb and a straight pipe and upgraded air filter I’m sure if I remove the governor with these parts it’ll even go faster
Now I took out the governor and my bike takes off on its own when I mess with the choke so I did what you did in part 2 and it worked but my bike dosent wanna stay running so everytime I let go of the throttle it wants to shut off when I’m riding
Will this cause damage to the engine?
@@Deucealive75 ok the only problem is the Jets inside are stock and can’t come out
@@skillchamp4208 Jetting is a different subject. If you can't get the jet out you will have to get a new carb. They are fairly inexpensive.
@@Deucealive75 so u suggest a torque converter?
What was the first mod to make it gain 4mph? Cant find the video on your page
Backing out the throttle screw. Very simple video it is on the page but down a little ways.
hey guys, total mechanical noob here. just ordered a ct200. is just loosening the governor screw so you gain a little speed bad for the engine? i'm not confident enough to take the whole engine off and remove the gov completely .
I would say no. Just makes it rev a little bit higher and gain a little speed. But the governor will still stop it from revving too high. I have my screw out and the governor and the bike still runs great. Just don't go all out all the time
Thanks for watching my friend
thanks!
I took my governor out and now my throttle doesn't close I have the same motor
What is the chain size
No gasket on the side cover?
+Bill Garrison I don't remember seeing one
I just removed my governor but when I start it up, it automatically accelerates to full revs, it literally sounds like it’s gonna blow up, now I’m just wondering why I did all these speed upgrades… :(
Check out part two?
Change 13 to18 lb springs & set gaps 15 / 17 , then your good to go
I think that would help it last longer.
Bad idea.
You WANT the valves to float unless you are using billet guts.
Idk how many times i gotta tell you kids this: For 40+years, ive never had nor seen a flywheel come apart. Con rods broke from incorrect oil level and over revving.
Springs will not save you.
@@robspear03 I watched a video last week of the damage done after a flywheel on a 212 blew apart on a guys go kart. Engine is done. Ruined the block and the head. Too bad I can't find the link so you could look for yourself.
My bike will no longer start any advices
I know mine is harder to start when cold but still goes eventually. Maybe try a little starter fluid.
hey so i did did everything in the video and it work but now i moves on it own when it turn on so i was wondering if u can tell me what the issue may be
Check out part 2
Those Camaros, so your Chevy guys, why should we trust you? :-) How much weight (rider) will that mini carry for mild service?
I am 200 and it carries me just fine for the past year with the governor removed.
Alright so what did you do to fix the throttle cause mine is now no longer working with the new setup
Check out part two
Did your bike want to just take off after you removed this. Brakes won't even stop it
Check out part two to fix it
I have a question for the clutch after I take the little pin out of it what size tool did u guys use because a 15/16 is just the Ranch what is the size screw u use to take it off ?
BSO_ JayBands I don't remember what we used
Wat to do if my chain keeps falling off my coleman min bike
Where are you guys at that almost looks like Helena Montana if it is I think I want own that bike water at a pawn shop I now have a brand new bike would like to figure out how to get the governor out I'm not on a mechanical yet
We are in Utah. They are not tough to take out
What you do with throttle wires push and pull not that bolts gone??
Hola amigo mi moto si prende y es parecida a esa solo que le quitó la cadena pequeña y prende pero al ponerla ya no prende me podrías ayudar
I can’t get that one bolt off under the gas
Will a 30 series torque converter limit the engines top speed?
It can depending on the gearing.
@@Deucealive75 I had the 50t on the rear and I'm 280. Could only get it to 25-27. Engine wouldn't get to top rpms. I switched to the 72t rear and now go 35-37. I want to bypass the gov next
@@TOMMY-WANT-WINGY Nice! Yeah gearing plays a big part.
Do you have to do all that extra stuff like remove the springs and all that before actually going in to the engine. I see a lot of other videos and they would do all this extra stuff
Utah?
Yes we are in Utah?
Burning Rubber Garage looked like home ha😀 what part of the state?
By Utah lake.
Burning Rubber Garage cool I'm in salt lake
Great video, I'm gonna do this ibe done it before but forgot how know I remember
Damn I got lots of motorbikes and I took the governor out and it went flying mine goes about 50 miles per hours
what’d you do to get it to 50?
@@modifyed3579 sorry this is a really really late comment but i engine swapped mine with a predator 212cc hemi engine and if You get one make sure to get a clutch or torque converter
@@modifyed3579 and also to make it faster loosen the governor screw
Please and thank you..
+wyatt harrison I think you would be ok to pry with a screw driver that can stick over time. As far as I can remember nothing is hooked to it.
+wyatt harrison make sure you got all the bolts out as well
yeah so im not sure whats up with mine.. but when i try and pry the cover off the whole crank shaft is moving with it when it should just slide off? no clue whats going on... all the bolts are out and its really pissing me off lol.. the bike is like 2 days old too
I used 2 flat head screw driver's put one on each side and opened it up
