- A new direction was taken in the 1980s on a self-titled album Jane (Mask) (1980), that is sometimes referred to as Mask by aficionados. It incorporated new wave, punk and jazzy elements in straight rock configurations and introduced a new vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist, Yugoslavian eccentric Predrag Jovanovic or "Pedja". Vocals were never Jane's forté and Pedja's energetic deliveries gave them a fresh sound but unfortunately it was his only appearance with the band and he returned to his native Yugoslavia to form the synth-pop group D'Boys.

Педжа из Белграда - достаточно хороший вокалист, вот только жаль, что он и Jane записали вместе только один этот альбом! Наверное он всё же не подходил для этой группы... / Pedja from Belgrade is a pretty good vocalist, but it's a pity that he and Jane recorded only this one album together! He probably wasn't right for this group after all...

"Vocals were never Jane's forte" is a very well put comment. As a Swedish fan of Jane's since 1977, aged 16, I always wondered - whatever style they had (blues, prog rock, symphonic rock, straight /classic rock...) - why they never could find a decent singer. They had the musicians alright. Anyway, I still listen to them, and saw them (together with Birth Control) in Bremen some 20 years ago, and it was way better than I expected (and the nervous guy from their fan club who sold merch in the club also sold decent bootlegs behind the desk...).
