- One sea-faring captain made a brave exploration around Antarctica and discovered new lands. He probably made most of it up.

This kind of started as a short Bad History idea but it turned out Morrell's other journeys could potentially be their own video as well in the future, so I kept this one for his first journey in the Antarctic.
It is an amazing coincidence that Map Men just released a video on almost the same subject!
Day 4 of me asking for a video on Sarawak (I've become cursed by this madness).
Kind of funny that this comes out right after a Map Men video about islands that don't exist.
I was going to say the same thing. It's a great companion video
"funny" ha ha?
or "funny" uh oh?
Yeah, it is nice to learn about early Antarctic history.
I only know the part with Cryolophosaurus.
Aaand also...Imperobator, Trinisaura, all penguins, and Koolasuchus.
"Died in 1838 or 1839, in Mozambique; there is, however, evidence to suggest that this death might have been staged, and that he lived on in exile, possibly in South America." 🤦🤦♂🤦♀

These comments annoy me to the core, what in tarnation are you implying here
This guy's work was a big inspiration for Edger Allen Poe's "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket", which ends in Antarctica. That Poe work would then later be a big influence on HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness
Wow I just realized those mirages show up in One Piece's Thriller Bark
I was half hoping for They Came before Columbus: The African Presence in Ancient America.
Fun fact: the Kingdom of Mali sent a naval expedition west but they were never seen again
@@typektypowy Need to specify how big of a ship
I hope I never again, for as long as I live, see a single other person claiming the Olmec heads as African in origin.
@@recoveringdaydreamer Is it just the lips? It takes more than dark skin and big lips to make an African!
@@jeffreygao3956 idek, nor do I care to know tbh. it's literally the same Eurocentric "Aliens built the Pyramids" logic that Black people and POC rightfully slam as a racist discreditation of the achievements of non-Western cultures, but turned around and weaponized by a handful of shameless Afrocentrists against Indigenous people who have already had a large amount of their history erased. Then these folks like Ivan Van Sertima come around and try to literally steal their history, appropriating their culture in the most egregious way imaginable. For anyone who actually cares about history, culture, or anthropological studies of any sort, this is incredibly frustrating. And that's to say nothing of the people whose history is actively being stolen.
""But this time he commited financial fraud" ofcs he did 😭😭😭
HORRAY! More bad history!
To roast!
During those times I was looking at some maps from the Second World War in the Pacific and some islands appeared that I had never heard of, I went looking and came across 3 islands that, in fact, never existed, they were errors or inventions of navigators, but that remained decades in the past. world maps
The Bad History videos are always a good time.
Too late to explore the world...
...too early to explore the stars.
EmperorTigerstar. Doing the powerpoint presentation before Perun and way better than Whatifalthist.
Watching whatifalthist is just so weird these days. I remember four years ago watching his alternate history videos and enjoying them. He really went off the deep end with the politics and psychology/philosophy stuff
@@robertlind186 Yeah he's an incel nutter now.
Thank you for another episode of my favorite series on the channel please do more
These are some of my favorite of your videos, you debunking fake history
Who wants barbecue from the roast?
Nice video. One question tho, when will you do a bad history episode on the Lechian Empire?
They Came before Columbus: The African Presence in Ancient America deserves one even more.
Just pulled up bristol island on maps. Comments on google maps are... ridiulous..
I swear, you should start a new series based on google maps reviews of obscure locations and the ridiculous out of pocket stuff talked about.
Made ship up? Good choice.
No relation, i think.
I was just reading about that
This reminds me of that venician guy who claimed his ancestors the Zeno Brothers had been on a Northern voyage to America before Columbus. In that case the whole journey seems fictional, but a few place names and descriptions of Greenland/Iceland do match somewhat.
Yo I love his mushrooms
Thank you.
How much larger was the antarctic ice?
I remember naming my NationStates Nation after New South Greenland
It's back!
