I went through this training program in the mid 1970s as part of operator training for a large refinery. While I did not go into operations I did eventually go into the field of Industrial Instrumentation. I remained in the instrumentation field until I retired recently. While the hardware changed significantly during this time the principles pretty much remained the same. When I started most instrumentation was pneumatic . It then changed to electronic and eventually to DCS systems and PLCs. It is a great field and challenging to anyone that decides to go this route.
