Ich habe diese herrliche Fahrt mit einer Verspätung von mehr als einem halben Jahr gemacht. Sie hat wunderbare Erinnerungen geweckt und es war ein Genuss, den Überholvorgang mit 60 im Bahnhof Rosstal mitzuerleben. Gerne und dankbar habe ich das Abo 191 und Daumenhoch vollzogen.:-) Herbert. Actually, the single track begins in Crailsheim and ends in Goldshöfe, where the routes from Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt to Nördlingen (4710) and from Goldshöfe to Crailsheim (4940) divide. Since there is also the route from Waiblingen to Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental (4930) and the route from Heilbronn to Crailsheim (4950), it's not a big deal because traffic from Nürnberg to Stuttgart may use both routes. (Of course, regional traffic can't do this.)
What you call a mess are vehicles of a museum railway. Some of those cars are there for parts, some for restoring some time. The single track between Crailsheim and Goldshöfe accomodate all traffic needs in this rural area. There are hourly regional trains and intercities every two hours. Freight trains using another line from Crailsheim to Backnang and Ludwigsburg, which suits them better to get to the big freight yard at Kornwestheim near Stuttgart.
It is indeed strange semaphore signals still work. It is also delightful they can be made to work in a digitalized context. Influence of signals on trains, via now so called RFID was also introduced before 1930, in the steam epoch, and still works the same way. Suchlike very ancient safety measures are not yet implemented on all train tracks where they would be useful
@@kaidreler1041 Those semaphore signals at Goldshöfe (visible at 1:12:14 in the video) are not suitable for any digitalized context. As can be clearly seen in the video they are linked mechanically to the signal box by those wires on the right side of the track. There are semaphore signals with electrical powered movement around (not on this line), which could be made fit into a digitalized environment. But in Germany those semaphores will generally be decommissioned if there is any kind of modernisation work (mostly making them fit for digitalized remote control from a centralized traffic control center to get rid of those signal boxes and its personel as much as of the required maintenance). The electromagnetical safety system (far from RFID, which could transmit a lot more information, than the ancient "Indusi" oder PZB- System or the even more sophisticated systems working with balises) is installed and functional throughout the line between Stuttgart and Nuremberg. You can see those little boxes to the right of the right rail at nearly every signal (reminding signals excluded, because any information of the distant signal will be kept for a certain amount of time and way in the locos system). As far as I know all lines in Germany are equiped with this system after a few accidents in the late 1990's. The system is quite simple and relies on resonant electromagnetic circuits at 3 frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000Hz, whereof the latter will always force a train to stop. The 1000Hz circuit requires acknowledgement from the engineeer and will trigger a survaillance of speed reduction for a certain amount of time and way and is generally used at distant signals with a warning indication (slow or stop ahead) or speed restrictions below 100km/h. Failing to acknowledge the 1000Hz information results in an emergency stop. The 500Hz circuit triggers another speed control of much lower velocities and is used only in the near approach of home signals (200-400m) and for very low speed limits (10-30km/h). 500Hz circuits could be detected by looking for those distinctive boxes to the right of the right rail at places where there are no signals (reminding signals excluded, there are a few cases, where those 500's are placed near a reminder). Any of those boxes on the left hand side are generally for use in the opposite direction.

In this case (not always) each district has its own chainage. At the same time we are crossing the border between the two German states Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The speed limit indicated by the signal applies only for the following switches of this station. There is no "distant indication" at this signal (would be indicated by a yellow triangle and a restrictive indication of some kind), so the train is allowed to go to the appropriate speed limit after passing the last of those switches (the position is also indicated in the time table, although it generally is part of the route knowledge).
