Love that accent! :) My mothers father was a "Master Stack Builder" before WW1. After the war machinery took over pretty quick. My next door neighbour started baling hay at 1.10 this morning. When I see him I'll call him some bad names and then refer him to this video :) Cheers from Australia!
Hay stacks using a pole is the best way to stack hay. The hay is keept almost 100% percent intact. In comparision the bales are expensive and result in a lot of waste. Using a pole and a podium you ca stack even 10000lbs of hay. The hay will preserve for at least 5 years.
it’s only in these modern times that we raise children to send them away when they grow up and be independent. that is a new philosophy the old people used to raise their children to stay with them and build their community not to leave and be independent
I’m interested in doing this to bale graze all winter. How do these handle high winds? We get 80mph. I’d hate for all our hard work to just blow away to Kansas….

I feel like I could talk with this guy for hours and learn so much history
Me too.
Ive seen haystacks similarly made by some more traditional Pennsylvania Dutch families in Pennsylvania.
Videos like this are the only opportunity i have to experience small town, big country life.
It's 2024, i'm in my midlife, maybe it's a midlife crisis but i'm suddenly excited to grow hay.
We’ve all become so independent living , thinking that life would be easier with technology and we’re moving too fast
Great video, thank you.

A haystack didn't require a bank loan to pay off the costs of all the equipment. These were times of self sufficient people.

I make loose hay up here in Alaska for my horses
Pls , what is name of this grass
I wonder how much the use of hay balers is due to the demand to pay property taxes.
Hello can we exchange cultural lifestyle and music
Unfortunately, you're right. Property taxes force us to make our property maximum productive, hence, the old fashion ways cannot compete.
