  • Using sports as a powerful metaphor for overcoming life's hardship is a storyline hardly new to Costner.

Loved the movie. Consner was excellent, the young actors did great. VERY INSPIRATIONAL. What happens in this movie can be applied to ALL cultures and races; it just happens to be based on hispanic kids and their true story.

Why it was never nominated for a Oscar I will never know why Costner should have won best actor at least and best movie even if didn’t win . I am Mexican and proud of this movie ❤❤❤❤

In addition to other work, I've worked in fields although my family situation was probably much better than what these kids had. But what about my teachers? One teacher seemed to think I'd never worked a day in my life and he complained about this. He explained to me that he had been a supervisor who had to keep all those lazy workers in line and I should get some experience. I won't call a teacher names or criticize him, but Coster does play an under dog of sorts in this film. What was one of the lines in the film... "they are treating you like a picker!". I wonder how our school might have been with an attitude exhibited in this film because I believe everyone wants to do better. They simply need the right environment and right people. Excellent movie and might possibly shed light on many issues we face each day as Americans. And I like what Coster says... Americans want to do things when we are told we can't. We aren't treated the same as people in other countries and we have a positive attitude towards life and the world.
