I don't think this is a newborn. I'm guessing because of the bald spot on mom's right leg, the "1 day old baby monk video" that mother seems to have the same bald spot. She looks confused and a little panicky, like she can't tell where or who the blood is coming from. Poor Mom, maybe something should be mentioned to the zoo?

All new macaque mothers also inspect their babies a lot just as she is doing..this is also very normal. Mostly when she is looking at his bottom and around his genitals she is making sure that he does not need to pee or poop..(urinate or defecate) because when baby monkeys are this young mom has to stimulate them to go either way..pee or poop..she does this either by rubbing around the area or licking and cleaning the area..and it must be done frequently or they will not go..and if they dont go they will die.. (though some babies do sometimes go on their own without mom having to stimulate them to go..that is normal too).But he is definitely not wounded or anything..she is just taking care of the things that new moms must take care of! Plus, I was just looking again..most of the time when you see her inspecting his bottom side..he has actually just peed on her and himself..that is what caused her to look..you will notice his hair and hers is wet down there!
