    Coming home from the pub at 4 in the morning and forgetting that sail is bobbing around the porch! That’d leave a south facing mark…🤣😳…love the project.

    The time lapse of you drilling the holes and adding oil was strangely satisfying 🤓 The video quality was great...

      Thanks! A bigger wheel with a hub motor, might make enough electricity to power an LED.

    Very nice! If you move the mounting point back towards the tail a few inches, you would not need so much weight =)

      Thank you, Mekhanic1!
      Yeah, you're absolutely right about the mounting point. There isn't really a few inches, but I could have moved it 1 to 1.5 inches. Actually, I could still change it, but it's good the way it is, and... I'm too lazy. :-)

    did you try converting the wind energy to something else? id love to know how much power it generates, i came to this video because i was thinking about wind powered kinetic sculptures
    thanks so much for sharing, it looked like a lot of hard work

    • @HipNerd
      @HipNerd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Besides as a noise maker using a playing card, I never did try powering anything. I can tell you, though, that it does not generate a lot of torque. Even on very windy days, I can stop it with my hand rather easily. As the basis for a kinetic sculpture, I think it would work well, depending on how much power you need. But, don't expect it to be able to move anything requiring much torque.
      The hardest part was cutting and shaping the tail, which would have been made easier with the proper tools.

    why not use the front fork an wheel?

    • @HipNerd
      @HipNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      One is aesthetics. I just don't think it would look that good (it's curved and not balanced for running in the orientation here). The second is ease of hanging, I'm not sure how I would hang it from the fork. Overall, I think the shape of the fork would have required more work to make it work and look good than the work I put in to making that homemade fork.

      I think I got mine on Amazon, but any hardware store or home center should carry it.

    Cool but dangerous in a wind or ?? Sorry I am old.

      LOL, while a valid concern, rigorous testing in Valley winds, shows it to be pretty safe.
