    Hey Mike and family, wanted to thank you for the shout out. I appreciated it !! You hand your hands full with all that rain around there but look how green things will be for a while longer this summer. Keep up your good work on your channel, you folks are doing a great job and a service to those who honestly try to make this world a better place instead of hiding behind a keyboard and stirring up hate. Thanks for sharing and Hello Hunter ;-)

    your positive attitude toward things is contagious. i have learned that there is no need to get worked up over something that you have no control over. that big storm caused you a lot of problems and you just go with the flow( no pun intended). the rain here in central ky has put me so far behind bushhogging the steep hills at the farm. just saturday i just told myself, maybe i will get to it next spring. no need to worry about it. now, i love that little sherman, its perfect for what you are doing with it, or atleast you make it look like it is. great video. Hey Mike, a suggestion on a tool you can make for clearing out the stand pipe. Not sure if this will work, but here's the idea. Take a 3 or 4" auger bit (used for post holes), whichever size fits the stand pipe. Attach a shaft to it long enough to reach the bottom of the pipe, and attach either a t handle or brace (old hand drill) to the top. When you turn the auger the debris will be forced up and out.

    This is an older video but if you haven't fixed the pond drain already, take a 5-gallon bucket and drill half inch holes in the bottom. Then turn it upside down over the pipe and bolt it to the pipe with some homemade metal brackets, be sure to not put it all the way down so that it is touching the top of pipe. Top of pipe about halfway in bucket. The holes let air escape and the water go in pipe. But stops big floating trash that will plug pipe.

But my sister died in Arkansas and left us 140 acres in Arkansas She was a horder and her property was completely neglected for 20 yrs. my brother and I have been driving 10 hrs each way and working on it. We spend 5 or 6 days a month on it. I have learned so much from you and your videos. We had timber company harvest some timber. We had about 100 huge pines all around the house and barn. Some were to big to mill .but I needed to get them away from the building. Thanks for hat you do and it makes my day watching what you do and your great family

    Some people have mentioned t post but that can get expensive, instead try rebar put it about 2-3 feet in then use some bright paint and mark the rebar one foot incrimate s above the ground so you will know how high the water is. Use different colors and keep them all the same on all of the property, and also put the rebar on the same side also so you always know where your colverts are at a glance

    Mike and family I really enjoy al the videos you put out I was watching one where yu are having problems with the overflow pipe on the pond blocking ,may I suggest using a length of pipe 1 inch or bigger and pushing it in from the outlet end if you can arrange for a supply of high pressure water through this pipe it would also help flush out the pipe especially if any great build up of silt etc in the pipe
    Takecare from Joe located in Riverton Southland New Zealand

  • @bruceaplin
    @bruceaplin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mike, your lucky you didn't loose the pond as overflow usually takes OUT the dam. Stuff that stops up the overflow pipe is almost always floating debris. The way we solve that problem here and mark the pipe location is to install a 2 foot long and much larger diameter pipe over the drain pipe. Put 4 bolts in the larger pipe at center. Place the 2 foot long pipe over the drain pipe. Now water leaving the pond must come from water one foot below the surface thus stopping floating debris. The one foot above the surface marks drain pipe location, and if the pond water height gets 13 inches above normal it will flow down the center of your new drain pipe cover, locator, filter. Make pipe measurements biased on your situation. Good Luck, It works for us.

    First off, I really enjoyed the video. When you mentioned the 100 acres of rain I couldn't help wonder just how many gallons it really was. So 1 inch of rain on 1 acre of land (or water) is 27,154 gallons, wow. A gallon is 231 cubic inches. So you are talking about 2.7 million gallons for each inch of depth, on 100 acres. Just thought you might like to know. How many inches did you get? And just what did you do with all of that water? Thanks for the video.

    Hey Mike. Love your vids! Just an idea for locating the culverts in the future. Pound a metal stake in the ground so its sticking up say 4' right where the culvert is on each side of the road. They do that here where I am, so in spring the city will dig the snow out of the ditches so less overland flooding, and the metal stakes mark the culverts so the backhoe doesn't take them out.

  • @richardp3628

    Hi Mike. Maybe put a steel T post on the side at each end. you could even paint the post for better visibility.

  • @OldSloGuy
    @OldSloGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here is the way to do it. Since you have a lot of trees, pound a nail and shiner in the side of a couple of trees that you can see from the culvert, These trees work best if they are close to right angles from the culvert. Now, use a tape to measure the distance to the culvert. If it is important to be really precise, then use a hand level and plumb bob to make sure the tape is level. While you are at it measure the difference in elevation and draw a sketch on a 3x5 card with a north arrow and the lay of the land. The 3x5 index card goes in a card box in a safe place. What is a shiner? Think of a tomato can lid with a hail hole in the center. It just makes the nail easier to see later (years later). Plastic flagging works as well short term but gets sun rot. In the event of a major storm, a washout is possible, so if you have already dug deep enough, it is gone. Deep enough is determined by the difference in elevation from the nail and shiner. Sediment from an upstream washout or erosion can both give a false impression about how deep things are. Another trick with plastic culverts is to pound a length of rebar vertically on both sides of the opening. A magnetic locator can be used to find these. It is possible that the rebar will wash out and still leave the culvert. You could even find civil war relics. However, if you measure to the spot and it is magnetically active, you know you are in the right spot and something is down there. I say something because you may not like what you find, but only digging and eyeballing can determine usability. For people with less of an estate, these techniques also work for finding septic tank lids and sewer cleanouts. People who bury and forget often have to pay professional charges to find the things the homeowner used to know about.

    Ten minute Titanic to the rescue! Love it. I wonder if putting a small pole or rod to the side of the intake would make it easier to find when the water level is over the top of the pipe. So what would be the long term fix to the pipe plugging? Larger overall pipe diameter with smaller (current size) intake? That would tend to allow trash to flow through the pipe without getting stuck...hmmm...interesting problem.

    Crazy weather here too lately in my part of Ontario. Yesterday an EF1 Tornado. Luckily no one was injured.

    Drive a piece of rebar in the ground marking the culvert and paint the top bright orange

    That 10 minute boat would make a good candidate for a video... Does Flex Seal actually keep a boat from leaking!!!

    Put it steel pickets at the end of the culvert paint them white then you can find them when they block up and you don't have to dig heaps of hole trying to find the ends

      We left out of Key Largo one morning with 36 gallons in my F150 crew cab and rode I-95 all the way through Fl and Ga and stopped for gas just outside of Charleston SC. 650 mile range is sweet.
