Frozen JR The Musical (FULL SHOW) at The Magnolia Theater

This is the one and only performance these schools performed at The Magnolia Theater in downtown El Cajon. The Magnolia Theater is the largest professional theater space in downtown El Cajon, and the Cajon Valley school district made arrangements for this one production to be staged at this professional theater space. Due to the cost, the students only had one night to perform their production and you will see that they all did a remarkable job at their one shot show!
The students also had limited rehearsal time being that three separate schools were involved with the production, and rehearsals had to be conducted during the school day. Rehearsal schedules had to be built around bus schedules to transport all the students to The Magnolia for rehearsal, so sometimes they only were able to rehearse for only an hour and a half.
The house of The Magnolia Theater also holds 1,200 seats and these students filled the house with standing space only up by the tech booth- which is why you can hear talking next to our videographer.
The lead cast performers were the middle school students from Los Coches Creek Middle School.
Productions notes:
Directed/Choreographed/Musical Direction/Technical Direction by Kasey Viani. The design behind the use of the ice dancers were to give a physicality to Elsa's emotions and magic, for instance, you will see the dancers "strike" Anna in her head and her heart when Elsa's magic get out of control. You will also see the ice dancers create the magic staircase during "Let it Go" as Elsa releases her magic to create her beautiful ice castle. Another design was to use the ice dancers to serve as the 'snow storm' that Elsa creates when she is sentenced to death and runs away for her life.
The production featured 260 stage performers and 11 technical crew members, including professional technical staff from The Magnolia Theater.
Various technical special effects were used to bring Elsa's magic to reality such as a dry ice machine and snow machine. It snows at the end of Act 1, and being that we were being careful with the cost of our technical needs, we didn't rehearse with the dry ice machine or snow machine working. You will see the actors genuinely and authentically surprised and actually reach for the snow because it is the very first time they see it!
The gorgeous stage/platform and staircase design was created by Travis Russell. He also created the glowing ice cubes that you see Kristoff and Sven carry across the stage and also the ice cubes that serve as set pieces.
The students from Los Coches Creek Middle School in this production of FROZEN Jr. The Musical were members of the dance program, show choir program and musical theater program. This helped to create the musical powerhouse performance FROZEN Jr. needed with the support of our accomplished singers and dancers.
This production is Los Coches Creek Middles School's first major performance in their brand new performing arts program. Covid shut down their performing arts program, and this show debuted the reemergence of their long lost performing arts program.
