    Hey Samatza,
    Thank you for your video, especially for your modest playing examples - no distortion as hell, no slapping to death, no fiddling in the 20th fret... just playing the things that normal people do. 👍🏾
    Suscribed.
    Ciao, Bolle

    Great, straight forward review of the two comparable amps. I have the Trace Elliot Elf that I purchased as a pre- amp with DI into a Focusrite then into garageband for recording and working with musicians across on the other coast of the USA. I was really curious if I had missed out on anything not choosing the Gnome, but they really are VERY comparable (cost not withstanding). thanks, Sumatra!

      The TE is a great little amp and I like the baked in flavour. Glad to hear you're getting the most out of yours.
      Most people I speak with like the Elfs Trace Elliot'ness, however for some on a budget the Gnome is great value and is another avenue into the most portable amps on the market.
      Be well, keep making music. :)

    Thank you for making this video the Warwick compared to the elf the elf was just a hint brighter to me but all in all they seem to be the same I would expect the Warwick to run cooler than the elf

    My Elf has just died on me after 5 years of faithful service. I liked it a lot but their prices have gone up quite a lot. I strongly dislike Warwick basses so I was a bit apprehensive towards their amps but after watching your video I can confidently say I'm getting the Gnome.

    • @samatza
      @samatza  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry to hear about your Elf. They are comparatively expensive around here too, the Gnome on the other hand is priced really well, it's fairly neutral sounding and you can dial in a lot of tones with the EQ.
      The convenience of small amps is I think the biggest factor for their popularity, I know I rarely use my big amps these days.
      Keep enjoying making music and enjoy that Gnome. :)

  • @extantia

    I had not heard of the Gnome until after I had purchased the Elf and companion 2 X 8 cab as a recommendation for a lightweight rig for small gigs and practice. I am pleased with that setup but might have gotten the Gnome if I had known about it earlier, particularly the price aspect (though I did get a good open-box deal with the Elf components on eBay). Both amps sounded nice to me in the video, though the Warwick seemed to be a bit warmer. Thank you for this excellent, non-nonsense review!

    The Elf sounded a bit deeper. I noticed that you turned up the bass to 2 o' clock on the Warwick. It made it sound fuller, but it still lacked the low rumble of the Elf. Not a big difference though.
    Thanks for the video. Very informative.

    I have the Gnome. Going through 2 1x12 cabs, it’s fine for practice with drums. For church, I use one, home built 8” cab, and go direct to the PA. I have used the cab, and 8” cab with. no PA support for relatively quiet practices with a drummer. I keep the Gnome in my gig bag always. Makes for a great back up to my larger head. My 8” cab is only 17 pounds, and is tuned lower than the TE cabs. Nice, light weight gear.

    I love how you present, man. No funny business, video does what it says on the box. You also tried all the things bass players wanna know. Subbed.
    My perception? I listened with decent cans and the Elf is decidedly thicker around 125k and sounds like it would do that old growly metal tone great. Slightly muddier if you will. The Gnome seems like it would eat pedals better all around. Utilitarian, like you said.

    I just got a Gnome, and in a bedroom setting, the fan is very loud -- I prevents any open-air recording (it's actually louder at 5-6 feet than any other background noise coming from the cab). The price and size are good, but I'm just not sure it's worth using in-home. Maybe fore DI recording. I'm going to use it in a rehearsal, and if it is an issue there I'm returning it. And everything I've read from Elf users is that its fan is even worse. The TC Electronics BAM has a spotty record, so really the smallest and most economical three of the micro-amps all have pretty noteworthy downsides.

    • @samatza
      @samatza  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear you’re having noise issues with the fan. I don’t recall the fans on any of these units being very noticeable at all. Are you able to try another unit in case this one has a bad fan?

      @@samatza I recently bought a line 6 helix stomp, to go from an arsenal of pedals to something much more portable to take on flights, and something that small as the gnome for power stage would be perfect. the warwick gnome pro costs a little more but it gives 280w, so if the sound is comparable to the elf then it would be an excellent option

    I don't know if it's the baked-in EQ or if the Warwick is high-passed differently than the Trace but the low E sounds thinner on the Warwick, doesn't seem to have the same support. Overall, though, I thought the Warwick sounded more balanced and open and less compressed than the Trace and I preferred the Warwick (minus that bit of thinness at the bottom) over the Trace in fingerstyle.
    In slapping, I hear the same things, but they might work in favor of the Trace this time. Warwick doesn't sound bad but I might have liked the Trace a bit better at first blush.
    Maybe dialing the Gain back and Volume up on the Trace would open it up a bit and make it feel/sound less compressed, and maybe dialing in a bit more bass on the Warwick would make the low end feel better supported. I don't know.
    For the price difference you mention, though, the Gnome all the way (for me). (Worth noting that they're much closer in price -- sometimes almost the same -- in some countries.)
    Only similarly tiny amp I've owned was a GK MB200 -- would be interesting to put that Gnome up against the GK.

      It is a pity that all three of them have no aux input. This is a perfect size for rehearsa without a cabinet. Put it on the desk use headphones and play along to mp3 or metronome. But no. They can’t. They shouldn’t have copy the design from each other :-) I had an issue to play the Gnome at moderate volume a home. Gain at 12 and volume just a 1 mm above fully anti clockwise was horribly loud. Too loud for home. But very impressive how technology shrinks dimensions and weight. The treble is set at 4.2khz bud....i have the non usb Gnome, one of many bass amps...my main gigging bass amp is a Warwick WA300 Class A...a fantastic transparent amp with bags of power....the Warwick Gnome should be a little cleaner as you say, it's their thing...i use it purely for practise...if gigging i would get the 280w model, should do pubs / & small to medium venues....can even stick it on your pedal board if you cannot use a back line...XLR to front of house...output to on stage monitor...neat little solid sounding bass amp....

      Thanks for all the info, always nice to hear how these units are used. I do like the clean Warwick sound and that size is super convenient. Be well, keep making music! :)

    You can get the Gnome for half the price, no brainer!

      Yes indeed! That could be a big factor in the choice, some people will still like the TE flavour though and it's great to have a choice. Be well. :)

    Elliot have more compressed sound than the warwick gnome

    • @samatza
      @samatza  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can set the compression by using the gain control level. In higher settings it engages an overdrive circuit, this sets it apart from other amps of this kind. You can find the Elf manual here -www.traceelliot.com/resources/te-elf-om.pdf

    Elf seems, warmer.

      Indeed, the Elf has a more "baked in" tone and has the ability to do overdriven sounds. It depends on what you like and your budget which is where the Gnome represents great value.

    Gnome wins. It has a lower fundamental.

    persoanlly I cant stand ugly amps...trace totally wins !! And to me it sounds fuller, more rounded overall...

      Hi Darryl, funny you should say that because I really do like the color and the chamfer on the front edges on the Elf and it feels pretty substantial for such a small unit so I know exactly what you mean.
