Hi Frag Bros! What fragrance is the best substitute for YSL L'homme? That is, the fragrance that performs absolutely better but has the same or similar notes. A fragrance that will be hard to differentiate from YSL L'homme.
I've tried a sample recently of l'homme , and it doesn't smell or last like it used to . All I get now is a light pepper, ginger and vetiver smell that's gone in a couple of hour's , they took out all the decent ingredients out of it and weakened it .

This was actually the 2nd cologne I actually purchased on my frag journey and even though now I own a little over 40 this is still 1 I enjoy ! Even though its not a top 5 fav or anything its still very nice.... Ive been told by 2 people this cologne reminds them of ginger bread cookies.lol

Nope. I find Intense sickly.
Just bought this. It's low key, but smells divine. It doesn't hit you too hard in a negative way
Keep in mind the Bros. live in the deep south of the U.S where it's warm most of the year and Frags project beastmode.
If you like la homme .... You'll love Jo Malone s dark amber and ginger Lilly .
It's the collogne version of la homme
It may be a climate thing, but I get absolutely HORRIBLE longevity and projection with this one. To the point where I don't think I can justify picking up another bottle whenever mine runs out. It's that bad that I only wear this in the summer because I figure the heat may help this push out some more!

I bought L'Homme b/c I wanted something inoffensive to wear at work and for me it's perfect for that. It may not be super distinct or the absolute best fragrance out there, but to me, it does smell very nice and most people either like it or are not bothered by it. It's great for what I wanted it for.
My boyfriend is crazy about this scent. Is there a Tom Ford cologne you could suggest for fans of this scent?
hmm, hard to answer. i love the Tom Ford line in general, but they don't really have anything that is similar. but a couple that i would highly recommend trying are Grey Vetiver, Tobacco Vanille, Tuscan Leather, Oud Wood, and Tom Ford Noir
Great review guys! I am with Jer on this one and would give it top ratings as well. I happened upon this fragrance as a sample in a Sephora order. When I received the sample, I snuck it into my husbands travel bag. A few days later we were on vacation and all day I kept catching whiffs of his fragrance...and it smelled fantastic! When we got back I bought him a bottle, and he has gone through multiple...his consumption has gone down with the inclusion of La Nuit to his collection!
It's nice and inoffensive. I think the Intense flanker isn't very good.
It may be hard to believe , but I'm yet to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for spotlighting this YSL modern classic.
I bought 2013 batch of La Nuit first, and then just bought l'Homme and Monte Blac Individual. One thing I've noticed about La Nuit, is that it is strong and projects a lot. 2 sprays is sometimes TOO MUCH...at least on my skin. I was wearing it to college classes and I was afraid it was overpowering for the people sitting just a few feet from me.
Is there a difference between the vintage L'homme and the newest reformulation? Or is it not as bad as La Nuit?

Tomorrow I have to receive a 2013 batch. I will test it out, so I can give you a better response.
I do not know if 2013 would be considered vintage, but at least it is not 2019-2020.

@@TheMauroTelles oh nice to hear that. I once smelled it in 2016 and it smelled like heaven but didn’t last that long. I purchased (blind buy) a dupe called Dua Rendezvous. I have good expactations. The smell of ysl l‘homme is very underrated and from another world imo.

Great review--now I need to go smell this! Suggestion: could you do a list vlog of your favorite Swiss Army Knife / "dumb reach" / no brainier scents? I'd love to hear about what you guys reach for most when you are tired or just don't want to think too hard, but still smell nice. Be well.
have you tried Un Jardin Apres La Mousson? really nice ginger note in that. the way it's mixed, it smells like an overripe melon. :)
My husband owns this, but I'm totally agreeing with everything you said about it being in the upper echelon of "generic" smelling colognes... I like the scent, but I don't go crazy when he wears it :/ Any of the CREED scents, Viktor & Rolf Spice Bomb, and Mugler's Pure Malt are my fav fragrances on him :)
I know exactly what jer is talking about when he says he gets a play doh vibe. That's the first thing I felt when I wore la nuit de lhomme. It's not a bad thing at all, I love the scent.
I think it's for someone that attractive well dressed young appearance
it's a go to scent for sure. I reach for it when I want something that lasts and projects, but is also safe.
I do find that it's a bit sweet for me too, but it's just on the borderline.

You are right, this is one of the most likeable scents.
I really love this scent and all of its flankers. The Swiss Army knife was a great analogy as it really does fit at all times. The longevity for me is mediocre though. Thats its only draw back. Libre flanker is really the most underrated flanker, which is a pity, because its great in its own right as well.
L'homme is one of my favourites. One of the safest blind buys I can think of and, as you said, a great gift idea. I'm definitely with Jer on this one. 5/5
I get average to poor projection and longevity, but the scent itself is very good. Bright, airy, and for me a little floral but with a masculine base. For me this is an at-work only fragrance, because it's universally pleasant, inoffensive, and professional. It smells like a guy doing your taxes. I mean that in a good way. I would not wear it if I was going out. Very good review, gents, and I very much enjoy all of your reviews.
Curious. Did you guys try the 2010 and prior batch? Or was this 2011+. And does Jer tend to spray his clothes? I know you like to spray front and back of the neck. Thanks for this review!

the quality of YSL frags is generally a notch or two above the average imo.
But i have respect you guys for the work you have done so far. One more thing. I have this fragrance too. I like it lot. I bought it after i watched Buying Guide video on your channel. I think this kind of videos very helpful. First when i get this fragrance with other two fragrances my mom did liked this one most. because "it smells like roses" she sad. First i didn't understand bud few days later she had a surgery and came home and people came to see her with roses and they did smell the same.
I agree with Jerr. 4/5 is just about right. While it does smell good I had a difficult time smelling it throughout the day and when I sweat a little it tended to get a bit sour on me. I sold it to a friend who is having a ball with it so I do not know...I may have to try it again in the future. La Nuit on the other hand.... can;t get enough of that stuff.

Definitely balogney colongney...gotta love the Bro'isms. Totally agree on this one. Got a sample of it and felt it was nice but not worth pushing for the bottle. Just my opinion though.
L'homme Libre is my favorite. Have The Frag Bros reviewed Libre? if you have not please reviewed it.
I only smell ginger in this. And ginger's not my favorite root, herb, fruit? whatever it is Haha. Could you guys review any of the Byredo perfumes?

I have l'homme, la nuit, and libre. Like them all a lot, but none lasts all that much on me. Nor projects, for that matter. If they could just rev up the performance of them without monkeying with the scent, all three would be my go-to scents, generic or not be damned
That was my sygnature scent before i started to dig in into frargrances. Veeeery versitale.. For every occasion. Longevity is ok about 7-8h but projection is weak.. Very weak.. Pretty much skin-scent after 1h on my skin.
Bingo for someone who needs one frag for everyday.
I just picked a 60ml one up just to fall back on when I don't know what to wear

Good review....As a thick heavy scent wearing dude.... I wore....lomme when I wanted to smell pretty vs aggressivly sexy or exotic... it is very refined and metrosexual.... in a good way....
I tried this many times but couldn't convince myself to get me a bottle! Its just OK for me nothing ground breaking.

Hey fragrancebros, help me out please. To me Dior Homme Sport is very similar to Thallium Sport. Green Irish Tweed is very similar to Cool Water. Please recommend a cheap one that smells like a good expensive one. thanks

Probably my most complimented frag way before I got into cologne. I was thinking Aventus was the king of baloney cologney, nothing wrong with that except for those that enjoy transparency a la BdA

Great quality and very pleasant and very generic... Will never offend anyone but because it is so generic I can't really see myself ever reaching for it... I don't own it nor have I... There are two guys at work that do wear it and I am familiar with the scent which is very nice but just does not gel with me... *shrugs* Great review...
