And much more… If it wasn’t for Syr/Freya, Bell wouldn’t be alive by now. She saved Bell countless times.
I dont know about the novels/manga, but definitely re:zero in anime wins hard, Danmachi has this feeling of mid anime at times imo (but then it goes good with its characters/plot and you get reminded why you watchi this instead of "I reincarnated as a floor so girls can step on me")
Horn was able to take both the form of Syr and Freya. But Freya always used the Syr form to get close to Bell. Freya also used the Syr form to just go and have fun in the city(and collect strays that she likes). Her Goddess form has a aura of charm to it that means she can't do shit without standing out. But swapping with Horn meant to have a bit of freedom from the godly power bs.
Now the story bell told syr about the honorable Knight and the Spirit in the cathedral in ep 3 also makes more sense if it was supposed to be some kind of foreshadowing. The knight rejects the Spirit and chooses to be with the saint who has supported him for a long time. Distraught by her sorrow she tries to kill the knight but in the end ends up sacrificing herself to save his live when they're attacked by monsters. Syr then asks bell what he would do if she was ever so distraught by sorrow and anger that she hurt other people. He answers that he would simply stop her.
In this world, gods seal away most of their divine power to live like mortals. However, mortals can still sense their presence, which is why they can differentiate between a god and a mortal just by looking at them. Very few gods can fully seal their divine power. When they do, they completely resemble mortals, and their appearance changes accordingly. This is why Bell still doesn’t realize that his grandfather is the god Zeus. When Freya fully seals her divine power, her mortal form is "Syr," the waitress. The original "Syr" was Horn, but she gave her name to Freya, Horn got a strong will to look like Freya and she get a magic that allows her to transform into a goddess (Freya, including her mortal form). The Freya we see most of the time in the series is the real Freya, which is why Mamamia complains that Syr is always skipping work. Horn manages the Familia, while the true Freya is with Bell and Ryu. When Horn takes on Freya’s form, she shares her senses, thoughts, and emotions, allowing her to manage the Familia without the real Freya needing to be present. Spoiler below Horn shares the same feelings as Freya, so... ;)
Considering how Mama Mia is literally the boss in that tavern, I find it difficult to believe she doesn't know Syr's identity. I would believe she actually knows Syr is Freya and Freya wants to work in a tavern pretending to be a normal waitress girl. Heck, the Tavern could literally be made just for her to work in there as Syr. It's called "Hostess of Fertility" and I believe Freya is associated with fertility, she is literally the hostess there in this literal sense.
Mama Mia does and is the only one at the tavern who knows about Syr being Freya. It’s part of a contract she made with Freya. The contract allows Mama Mia to retire from Freya Familia and work at the tavern, while letting Freya secretly work there as Syr.

Personally I can’t say I didn’t see it coming at all or that I hadn’t my suspicions since season 1, but I can say for sure it was much more complicated and amusing than I had ever imagined…😍 As I predicted Freya and Syr have always been the same person (more or less) at least if we speak about the Goddess Freya and the “Syr” who is in love with him… Freya knew that she couldn’t get close to Bell in her “Goddess form” so she impersonated “Syr” with the help of this assistant (Horn, that btw, like Syr, is one of the many names that Freya has got in Norse mythology) that in the meanwhile took her place… That would also mean that the “Freya” glaring down at Bell with that nasty look in ep 2 was, in fact, Horn disguised as Freya (now it totally makes sense) I respect Freya’s feelings (and I also hugely respect Bell for being honest) but I still can’t completely sympathize with her: especially considering what we saw in the last few seconds… I get that she’s a goddess and won’t take a “no” for answer, also I understand that is EXTREMELY painful to be rejected by the person you love, but still that’s not the way to do it… Freya is the definition of a “SORE LOSER”😂😂😂 P.S. I was right when I said that, when she was confronting Ryu about her feelings, she was being manipulative and taking advantage of Ryu’s loyalty and “meek” personality (at least when it comes to romantic matters)… So if she really wanted Bell all for herself, and didn’t apparently have any regard for her feelings, WHY should Ryu show any “mercy” to Syr/Freya? COME ON RYUUU, GO FOR IT!!!😍❤️ Now I’m genuinely terrified of what’s going to happen to Bell…😰 He will have to stop Freya and her plans, can he do it? Will Ryu and/or Ais help him (even if I feel that with that wound maybe Ryu could be out of commission for a while…😢💔) Also poor Ryu… she was really facing depression there… She probably wasn’t this broken inside since she lost her family… She really looked like she was hearing the “call of the void…”😢😢😢💔💔💔
Basically I think the one that went on a date with Bell and “slept” with him was “Syr/Freya”, when he woke up she was gone and took her “Spirit half barrette” with her, then Bell met with “Syr/Horn” and gave her his own half to trick her Also it’s crazy to think how who we now as “Horn” was the “original” Syr at least when she was a little girl, but since they met (with Freya) they basically became a single entity…
Actually, there is much sense for Freya to play Syr and work in the tavern. Because otherwise, she need to be Freya - the great goddess who everyone and their mom are lust for, fear of, hate, love, want to use and so on. This, especially with the ability to perceive souls of others, is very heavy burden, and not exactly enjoyable way of life for her (at least after so much time living like this). On the other hand, Syr is majorly nobody. Noone seeks her, or bothers her, excluding her friends. And all this, for the cost of just working in the tavern and play a waitress, with the later bonus to interact with Bell without any suspicions or fanfares? To take this trade or not, wasn't even a question 😄
