Chinese a bit dry, Indonesian better but not as dynamically rich as the Benton. The difference in production cost between alnico and ceramic PU's is pennies. Fender deliberately dumb down cheaper models.

This video helped me pick a present for my gf. Thank you! We went with the TE-52, as she's a classical guitarist by training and was used to a more flat fretboard. If it were me, I'd be going for the Chinese CV for the shorter radius, but the HB sounds and feels absolutely amazing, well worth every penny.

My TE-52 has very sharp fret edges. Doesn't play that well ether. My TE-20 plays much better and doesn't have problems with sharp fret edges. The TE-52 sounds miles better though, and has slightly better hardware. These guitars are individuals, it seems. Just ordered athe Classic Vibe hoping to get a good sounding, good playing and good looking Tele in one affordable guitar.

I have two Harley Benton Tele's and a Squier Classic Vibe 50 (Indonesia) One Harley is a deluxe model TE-62 c (Roswell pups) which has a D shaped neck with a 12" radius the other Harely a TE-30 (SS pups) has a C shaped neck with a 12" radius, which I prefer,.
The Squier Classic Vibe 50 is a lovely guitar, C shaped neck 9.5 radius, but it is so heavy, almost 10 lbs, the two Harleys are 7 - 8 lb each, the Deluxe is the lightest. They all sound great, but the Squier is best for brightness.

Ooooh, I kind of like the darker tone of the Indo cv clean. The HB sounds very close to the Indo CV. The mic cv has a character of its own- very twangy and has brighter frequencies; I much prefer it with a drive.

  • @DanDjurdjevicplus
    @DanDjurdjevicplus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Thanks for this. It’s the best comparison I’ve seen. What no one else seems to notice is that the HB is a pretty muddy colour while the Indonesian guitar isn’t butterscotch - it’s mustard. I ordered one and cancelled when I saw it a shop and found it very much not to my taste. On a different note, every secondhand Chinese CV I see for sale has very cloudy, often green, corrosion on the chrome. I live near the sea but heck, the corrosion shouldn’t be that bad on a 4-5 year old guitar (I was looking at buying one 2 years ago). Another reason I cancelled my CV order. I bought an Artist TC59 (HH guitar by a brand similar to HB). Heavy but awesome. Not really a Tele though.

Saluti Modesto

@zelon1983 - Which guitar 1.Played the best? 2. Sounded best in the room? Through TH-cam I think overall I would say it's very close between the two Squiers and then the HB. The Chinese is brighter than the Indonesian - but cannot tell which I'd prefer in real life. The HB didn't have as much dynamic range as the Squiers. Obviously the HB is cheaper so I don't know if a well chosen pick up replacement (maybe Toneriders) would see it equal or outperform the Squiers or not???

@@filip_petric to be honest with you both feel great on the neck and Harley Benton has a bit thicker neck than the Vintage in my view not sure but that is the way it feels to me which I'm partial to the thicker necks although definitely not a baseball bat thick like the old Fenders. In terms of tone, there are subtle differences in the HB Roswell pick-ups and the Vintage Wilkinson pick-ups. With the selector switches in the middle and volumes and tone on 10, I sense more twangy on the Vintage than HB which omits a fuller sound. The Fenders will always be twangier though. I love them both and will not get rid of them so that tells you a lot! By the end of the week, I will feature both on my channel so you can have a listen however, I am not as good a guitar player as many I've seen on TH-cam testing these guitars so below are ones I found on TH-cam that helped me decide to purchase these guitars. I have a Harley Benton TE-70, with the rosewood veneer, also a Squier CV custom. Both have the classic barrel type bridge, in fact the ash tray for the Squier fits the HB perfectly. The Squier is hands down the better guitar, mainly because the neck is more comfortable. The HB fingerboard is noticeably wider and the body is slightly bigger too, at least it feels that way to me. The HB has louder pickups though, if that matters. The Squier tuners stay in tune better as well. I'm not saying the HB is a bad guitar, it isn't. The Squier cost $200 more new, so that has got to be a factor.
I also have a Yamaha telecaster style guitar, a 1994 SD120. It is a much different guitar though, with humbucker pickups, individual bridge saddles and plastic VT controls. I only mention it because it was a very low cost guitar new, I got it for $100 used. The tuners on it are better than either of the other 2 Teles. Bottom line, try before you buy, try a lot of guitars... I don't pay much attention to the sound of the guitars on these videos. The sound quality is too much different than live.

Hey how does the neck feel on the Harley Benton compared to the fender??

    • @markknight6445

My Harley Benton has a chunky neck which is the reason that I bought it.The fretboard radius is also much flatter(around 14"). I'm not fond of modern C . I hope this helps, one way or the other.

By far the best sound compararive side by side on the net for those telecaster, for my taste, and I'm surprise, the Indonesia is my favorite, warmer sound, China is too bright and the HB, I dont like the saturated sound. Thank for this video.

To my ear, the Indonesian has a slightly more balanced, fuller sound, while the Chinese is clearly more aggressive. HB is still good, still aggressive, but it seems to lack some bass.
They all sound like good Telecasters though, I would say Chinese first, Indo close second, than the HB.
BTW, this is the most useful comparison about CV Tele, since I want one as first electric and I've read so much about the difference between the two versions, so I was kinda worried about the quality drop with the Indo, but that's nonsense. It's a great guitar and i'm buying it!
    Thank you!

I have the Chinese CV in Butterscotch myself but the Indonesian has a nicer tone in the neck pickup at least in this demo. The Chinese ones have a much nicer looking finish though and the Tonerider pickups are more true to the 50's sound.

    1. Harley Benton (fuller, richer, more rounded sound).
    2. Squire (Indonesia).
    3. Squier (China) - Sounded the thinnest to my ears.

It shouldn't matter where it's made, modern manufacturing techniques aren't years apart and of course, wherever they are made, it will be Squier specification. If they are told to make them with cheaper components it's a Squier issue, or a customer issue, because it doesn't say Fender mia on the headstock, so there's only so much maneuverability in the price point.
