    The R33 Nissan GTR doesn't get enough respect: The R32 is the lightest, "purest" one, the R34 is the fastest and rarest of the JDM-only Skyline range. But the R33, which is now 25 years old, and legal in the US, gets little love. In order to see what I was missing, I took out my pal Rutledge Wood's freshly imported and serviced R33 GTR for a spin!

    The R33 GT-R is actually the fastest chassis of them all. When the BNR34 came out and started racing in the N1 Japan series, they got wiped off the floor and race teams reverted back to using the R33 GT-R !!! Hi Matt,
    Reason why the R33 feels light and very direct compared to the r32 is because R33 is actually not the heaviest of the 3 Skyline GTRs. R34 was the heaviest.
    The R33 was also a ground up new car from Chassis and Aero design perspective (it's not just a wider longer shell on r32 chassis). Probably why the r33 was not considered by many prospective buyers to day, but now that budgets are forcing prospective buyers to look at R33s, the facts get highlighted and R33 is seen for what it was, i.e. an aerodynamic, agile beast which broke records and left competition in the dust.

    The earlier GTR’s are an absolute pleasure to drive. I’ve got over 500 wheel HP in my R32 with upgraded brakes and suspension. @elyasrizkallah if you want to see it on Instagram. It’s a pure, mechanical masterpiece with dominant Motorsport pedigree. The road presence they have is also amazing. It’s unfortunate that Nissan bumped up a rung into supercar territory with the R35. I think they hit the sweet spot in the 90’s with pure analogue drivers cars and the R35 is a step in the other direction. Sure they’re super fast with their split second automatic transmissions an incredible 4wd and stability systems but is that what driving enjoyment is about? Instant shifts and 0-100 times? Not for me. I think Nissan know this too and hopefully the new Z is their step back to bringing the (more) analogue driver feel.

    What a nice areea, with the small parking lots for the small car shops, garages, stores and businesses, nice houses, and nice vibe with this narrow smooth road. I guess the ocean is close by, such a nice car and nice area, but I was like, here the populated areas will end, and he will get to a clean road, but it seems there were nice housing areas one after the other, after the other. Nice scenery, bad for testing cars:)

    • @KeenanStyles
      @KeenanStyles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason people don't like it is simply because it did not fill the shoes of the BNR32 and have any where near the success in motorsports. That is legitimately the only reason. The car as a whole is vastly superior to the BNR32 in every way shape and form being a successor but when you go into something with high expectations not taking into consideration the changes around you whether is in motorsports or even the improving competition that the successor once competed with that creates a misconstrued point of view of the car. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a BCNR33.

  • @Clesarie
    @Clesarie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 33 is great. The only reason people hate it is because its got the uglist tail lights of the 3. Imho its the best looking from every angle but the rear and most usable version of the car.

    I owned a 400bhp R33gtr - wasn't mental or bonkers but very capable and a goddamn epic daily to drive... back when petrol was under a £1 a litre 😕
    btw the 33GTR can be turned into an EPIC fast road and track car - equally as much as the others... tons of aftermarket goodies for them - weight can be stripped out. A 6 speed from a 34 gtr drops straight in pretty much and that alone makes it feel like it has gained 100 ft/lbs of torque. Turbo swaps are common... the crank is longnose so isn't prone to crapping itself etc... these things are epic
    the one thing i would say is at 3-400bhp you do get fairly bored of these. If you can get a 2 boost setup to go from 400 on low and 500 on high then THAT is alot of fun - especially if you stick a decent set of brakes on (btw the stock Brembos suck.. stick some D2 on there or Alcon or Wilwoods or 35gtr if they will fit).
    btw i've owned 4 skylines over about 15-20 years.. and i'm considering a 5th lol... i should really give something else a try but i keep running back to them hehehe!

    The prices for Skylines are just nuts right now. 50.000 for a R33?! Yes it's a low mileage example in Midnight Purple and you could probably get one for around 40.000 if you don't care about colour or rarity but that's still huge money for most enthusiasts. I love that they get more appreciation now that they get older but sooner than later they will be completely unatainable for most people that grew up in the 90's like me and are now just old enough to afford a decent performance car.

    Well the R33 gtr is the best handling gtr out of all.

    Much better than 32 and 34 performance wise

    • @KeenanStyles
      @KeenanStyles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats where you're wrong, a quicker Ring time is irrelevant. The BNR34 is vastly superior to the BCNR33 in every way possible as it is much more refined and has more durable parts. People don't do BNR34 turbos as a OEM+ upgrade for no reason. The Getrag transmission is also vastly superior to the glass transmission of the BCNR33. The Ring time is the only fact you're bringing to the table to back up your claim but yet the BNR34 has fast laptimes on Tsukuba, Suzuka, and Motegi. The BNR34 handles better as well being a shorter wheel base and it does not have as my gremlins dealing with oil pressure issues, constant coilpack issues, and prone to rust as easily as the BNR32 and BCNR33. The BNR34 is the better car. Its not called a successor for no reason. I've driven all 3 and the BNR34 is completely different from the other two just from being newer.
