Today, we watched episode 85 of My Hero Academia. This love story is actually something else. Some of the best villains in terms of wholesomeness. (wow, that's a weird sentence)

Man, I was so sad when this episodes was coming out and people was throwing hate at this arc, it's so wholesome and the villain is so human. Not everything has to be crazy powers and explosions.
True, true
I dont't understand why people hate this arc
@@ayushvardhan1567 some people think if we're not fighting league of villains that it's a filler which is insanity I know but some people somehow actually think that way
I loved this arc
I think it was because of how abrupt this arc came to life in comparison with the previous one, like, we had such a crazy shitty story about a guy who tortured a little girl killing her and bringing her back to life endless times, and then, out of nowhere we have Gentle Criminal, a frustrated hero with villain tendencies and a love-sad story with La brava, making videos on TH-cam and receiving hate. I personally didn't hate the arc, I found it cute, but of course I can understand where people stands because of how contrasting the situations are. It is not bad to bring something more "real" to the story, but it is going to take some time for people to agree with it if they're used to the "quirky" trama.
The dub better explains deku saying gentle was the hardest person for him to fight. He wasn't hardest in the sense that he was the toughest. He was the hardest in the sense that deku could truly understand why he was doing ehat he was doing
The next episode explains it anyways in sub just like the manga, the dub just explained it earlier than it should
I don't know if you've noticed but the reason why La Brava was crying at 6:04 was because Gentle willingly drew black circles around his eyes just like how La Brava did it. I really like that scene because of that detail specifically.
No wait.. that's literally La Brava's dark circles she can't get rid of.. right? (which makes it even more wholesome.. he really is gentle)
She had a complex about her dark circles so Gentle drew some on himself too so now they're the same and she doesn't have to worry about it anymore.
That was the moment that Gentle and La Brava became my favorite characters without a doubt, and my only desire for the series was to see them get a happy ending together.
Gentle is really good guy
If you pay attention you'll see that he drew dark circles around his eyes with marker for La Brava's sake so she doesn't feel conscious about her appearance
Labrava's marks under her eyes are eyesacks for spending nights without sleep, they are so marked that they are permanently on her face, Gentle painted arround his eyes because he noticed Labrava felt bad for her appearance.
LaBrava is also one of the ultimate multilingual puns. LaBrava is Spanish for "The Brave (girl)", and when transliterated into katakana or hirigana, it uses the same letters as the English "Love Lover"
ALSO... and THIS IS IMPORTANT... Izuku didn't mean he was the most powerful or dangerous fight, he meant Gentle was hard to fight on an emotional level, because he wasn't a purely evil foe like Overhaul or Muscular, where he could go all out with no regrets.
Overhaul wasn't pure evil either, he had a twisted sense of justice and warped compassion for one person, deku could understand gentle more because he was far less extreme
@@leeleelee7878 No, he did not I don't believe. He felt a DEBT to that person. He had absolutely no compassion, no remorse, nothing but an idea that he owed someone, or someone owed him. Nothing but a complete monster could do what he did to his own men, like Rappa, let alone to Eri.
I assume you agree, however, that Muscular WAS pure evil.
@@Valandar2 I emphasized "twisted" compassion for a reason, but ONLY one person, I didn't mention his subordinates, a complete monster shouldn't have the feeling of owing someone, not even a tad bit, otherwise he had no reason to cry out loud when he lost to ability to heal his father figure, or beg nagant or deku to let him meet his boss
Yeah Gentle is very interesting in that, unlike most other villains, he is not a malevolent person. He is generally kindhearted and doesn't want to cause harm, but he is also very selfish and doesn't have good forethought on the inadvertent harm his actions cause others
Wow I didn't realize about that multilingual pun, I thought it just Spanish name, now I think about it yaa it can be read as "rabu rabaa" love lover
Gentle was his hardest battle, but obviously not physically, even though it was close. Against Overhaul he had Eri boosting him, and against Stain he had Todoroki and Iida. But that’s not the point, it was his hardest battle because he understood Gentles dreams, why he was doing it. Against everyone else he knew they were evil and they needed to be stopped. But Gentle wasn’t evil, he was a tragic character trying to achieve his dreams in not the best way.
And also he had no moral support like he did in those previous fights. Against muscular he had someone to protect that literally reminded him in a critical moment to go beyond and with staying he had his peers to protect and also we literally see Todoroki give a talk to Tenya that helps get him into the right mindset to defeat the villain, if bakugo was there for instance he would shout directions to try and keep Deku focused on like against All Might. He had to wrestle with understanding gentle and he had to do it completely alone, which is why this battle is a great benchmark for how far Deku has come from the beginning of the series to the hero he is now.
Gentle's backstory has something interesting. Is like Deku in episode 2, but WITHOUT ALL MIGHT. Gentle did what Deku did when Bakugo was in danger, but there was no All Might to fix his mistake. That's why Deku said this was his hardest battle, he felt identified with Gentle, because he as well has a dream and when others gave up on him he found that one person who believed in him.
And in my opinion is hard to decide to which one to cheer, despite Gentle having to lose.
yup, probably the best villain imo, because of his ideals and realism
"You were harder to fight than anyone I ever fought until now, Gentle"
Midoriya said that not because he's the strongest he ever fought. He said that because it's hard to crush someone's kind of unselfish dream (Gentle's dream is also for La Brava). Sympathy took effect.
He's sending Deku away so they can at least claim they didn't get into a fight trying to break in and minimize what happened. Right now they're just in trouble for tresspassing, probably. On top of the crimes they did before. Also, while I agree with a lot of your assessment about their relationship. I don't think it was quite as straight forward as Gentle taking her in because he needed someone to want him. I think he also recognized that she needed someone and wanted to help her.
THIS is what MHA does so well: Usually in Shonen Animes, it is the Protagonists sheer Gumption and conviction that sees them through. Just because the want it _so much._ But... what if the Opposition has the same conviction? what if they too, want something so badly that they are willing to sacrifice everything for it? It is established here with La Brava and GC but it is also the Crux of Shigaraki going forth
I totally forgot that Gentle draws dark circles around his eyes so La Brava doesn't feel weird about hers. They're so dang cute, dude.
This episode made me cry, and that was as a manga reader going in
This episode truly proves heroes and villains are basically two sides of the same coin. Where heroes and villains have their own dream to protect for their loved ones.
i want u guys to know that the reason why Deku said that he was the hardest one that he fought is he thinks that he will be like Gentle Criminal if All Might didn't pass OFA to him
In other shows, we'd see the main characters use the power of friendship and love to try to win a battle. So I love that MHA has the villains(if you can call them that) use it instead. Their partnership is so wholesome.
Sometimes it's harder to fight someone you relate with, not at all physically speaking. The emotional twist that Deku was forced to fight a decent person was a breath of fresh air.
Hero too, Billboard Chart and Endeavour, next week is gonna be heat
I don't understand why people hate this arc, it's actually really well written
Although it wasn't Gentle's fault for getting the guy injured he still interfered in a pro hero's work of saving someone.
Plus he USED HIS QUIRK WITHOUT A LICENSE. Ppl always forget that in this world normal people are not allowed to use their quirks in public. Only if you're a pro hero with a hero license you can use your quirk freely.
Some have tried going against this law but we'll see about that in future.
Gran Torino only got his hero license for that reason.
And honestly this is a pretty good example of exactly why. While he didn't directly cause or even try to cause harm, he did contribute to it inadvertently. For anyone standing nearby, that exact set of actions could easily look like attempted murder, and it would be impossible to tell the difference without directly knowing his mindset. In a world where vigilantism wasn't punished that kind of thing could be happening all the time, and clever people with actual malevolent intentions could get away with harmful acts by just "trying" to do good and "failing".
@@verzeihturncoat27 Yup right
@@Vael221 Yeah that's why the government is suppressing normal use of quirks. You never know what can go wrong.
It's equivalent of shooting guy on a street... In Europe.
This is such a hard episode to watch, I cry almost the whole time. Gentle and La Brava are just too sweet!
With this arc almost over I'm curious to see how these two react to Endeavor's redemption arc. I remember this being very controversial when it popped up in the manga.
Yeah, I didn’t know what it was about at the time cause I don’t read the manga, but I remember hearing people were sending Horikoshi death threats or some crap.
@@unicornburger16 Typical shounen fans
"you were harder to fight than anyone i'd ever fought until now, Gentle" If you really want to understand MHA, then you have to understand what this sentence means. PERIOD.
One thing, that I think a lot of people overlook, is the second use of "Lover's Mode", despite them clearly explaining that it can only be used "once per day". The theory is, in that moment of reflection, Gentle Criminal truly accepted and returned her love, so he was allowed to call on or continue Lover's Mode again. This is somewhat confirmed in the end credits scene for the next episode, where the cops note that the romantic feelings for the two are "mutual".
I feel like this adds an extra layer of depth to the duo, because a lot of people seem to think that Gentle Criminal was using her, when he in fact treasured her attention and help.
10:10 you're going to see a lot of deaths in the sixth season. If I'm not mistaken.
Also, ordinary people whose jobs are not heroes in MHA are prohibited from using their quirks, in other words, it's illegal for people who are not heroes to use their quirks.
This is my favorite arc so far, idk why people hate this arc
Some quirks affect the personalities of their users. For example, Bakugo has an explosive personality, Todoroki is like emotionless, but he becomes too exited or angry when he uses fire or ice. For Labrava, her quirk is love, so that makes her feel extreme love to those she feels attracted.
With Todoroki, it feels like that's more likely the abuse than the quirk.
That's not really the case for either of those two. Bakugo takes after his mother, who doesn't have explosive quirk and Todoroki's antisocial personality comes from years of abuse and demanding upbringing in rich household.
Quirks don't affect personalities - they affect psychology, bodily actions and needs - which ultimately is meant to help with quirk activation. It's the urge a lot of quirk users have that helps them recognise their powers. Toga grew up with immense blood thirst and attachment issues. La Brava had need of loving someone to the point of becoming a stalker. Shigaraki had major allergies and skin issues, because of decaying nature of his quirk. Endeavour's overusing his quirk on daily basis limited his ability to calmly think and fueled his abusive behaviour.
La Brava doesn't mean honey, I think that was just another option. Also, in that same scene he starts without the black around his eyes but then he uses the marker to paint around his eyes because he saw La Brava being concerned about her dark circles around her eyes, that's why she cried then and why he now uses the black marking around his eyes from that point forward, different from when she saw his video.
Deku invented two new smashes for his shoot style : Manchester smash and St. Louis smash
Doubt.
Just because we have not seen them from AllMight does not mean he did not have them. Superfan Deku has years of data on him.
@@verzeihturncoat27 maybe yeah but we've seen all might mostly use punches so it's kind of different i feel because these are kicks
gentle criminal was NOT the most PHYSICALLY HARD opponent deku has fought, that would be overhaul or muscular most likely. gentle criminal WAS the most MENTALLY HARD opponent for deku to fight because he respected gentle criminal and understood his reasoning and he literally said himself if his life went a little different he could have turned out EXACTLY like gentle criminal since he had the same exact thoughts as gentle.
It's different for Deku to defeat a monster, someone who wants power and is willing to hurt anyone to get it. It's emotionally difficult to defeat someone you see so much of yourself in.
Deku says that he was the hardest because of the feelings and the dreams Gentle had, even if Deku fought to stronger villans.
Yep. Deku saw himself in Gentle, and didn't want to crush his dreams, but couldn't let him ruin the festival for his friends and especially Eri.
I like how Gentle could’ve turned out to be like Deku or the opposite. Definitely one of my favourite villain fights and arcs
4:30 doggy
Did you notice when Gentle gave la brava her code name, he also drew circles around his eyes to match hers.
I have a bad internet and the video stops at random times AND STILL haven't seen collete doing a weird face ... impresive
can't say the same for him tho 🤣
Deku faced stronger but when he says gentle was his hardest was because of gentles dream and what he stood for. It was deku's first fight ending a good guys dream's. Gentle never wanted to hurt anyone he just wanted to be known to that of a hero. Deku didn't want to do it but had to. Not to just save everyone's hard work but eri's happiness as while.
literally just had a six sense about you uploading. Went to your channel and saw nothing :( went back to youtube home and there goes that duk!
Thanks for the upload one again😁
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, KEEP AT IT
I think this episode was great for showcasing how far Deku has grown. EP 4 he can attack once and breaks three limbs. Now he can fight a villain by himself alternating from 8% to 20% while taking no serious injuries. He was able to protect the thing he cared about, positively influenced a villain, and go enjoy his day with his loved ones. That's a total victory for a hero.
Congratulations. You have fantastic taste in bnha villains. You shall be entered into the hall of the mighty.
The saddest thing is that if he had passed his exam he would now be known as "Gentle Hero"
And interfering in an emergency scene is a crime in real life, One example I know of is a group of teenagers driving on the road intentionally blocked a fire engine racing to the scene of a fire. The fire burnt down a building and lives were lost due to their actions. Whilst that was not Gentles intent it was still the outcome.
One reason why this episode is important is that it points out that *Deku could have gotten into serious legal trouble when he tried to save Bakugo* at the very beginning.
I also like the scary look on Deku's face when he looks over his shoulder and says he isn't done yet.
A little thing: I believe her name is La Brava, in two words. If that is the case, that mean "brave female" in Spanish (remember, Spanish is a language that use gender for everything, so while the words "bravo" and "brava" are basicly the same, the last "a" indicate that is referred to a women/girl/female)
17:09 damn, i choked so hard 😂🤣😂🤣
What Deku says about Gentle being the hardest opponent to fight is true because he means it differently. It wasn't the hardest fight to win, but it was the hardest fight to face. Basically, Deku decided by the end that he really wishes that he didn't have to fight Gentle, because he can recognize that Gentle's reasons for fighting are less "villainous" than the enemies he's faced before. Basically, "Man, it sucks we have to do this, I wish there really was a way we could both just walk away."
I'm a year late and I imagine others have explained this already, but Deku wasn't lying when he said Gentle was the hardest villain for him to fight, he just meant it in a different way than it sounded. Deku actually understands his dream and how much it means to him, and recognizes it as legitimate, but knows he can't give up on his own either so he *has* to take him out. He was the hardest villain to fight because it's much easier to go up against people you think are evil and in the wrong, but when you are fighting a decent person it's more mentally challenging to put a beat down on them and their dreams. That's really all he meant by that, not that Gentle was physically more powerful or capable than his previously fought villains.
Even though they both recognize the other as a good person who is pursuing a valid dream, neither can let up, or else they would be giving up on their own dream.
Make sure you watch to the end of the next episode! There's a bit at the very end that you need to watch!!
when you used The Power of Love but you're a villain..
Things would of likely of been worse for Gentle if the worker had died. He would of been held accountable since he blocked the pro hero from saving him. Had Gentle gone through the normally training to get a license he would of better made use of his powers and could of saved him. However he acted carelessly and people got hurt.
INU -san !!!!
“Kill ‘em!!”
S5: …ok
Honestly I wish it went a different direction and deku helped them that would have been interesting
I feel like that would have been extremely out of character for deku
@@xmant8842 Out of character??? You clearly don't understand deku then, the manga is further reinforcing it
@@leeleelee7878 Yes. It would be incredibly out of character. You believe that deku risking eri's freedom and happiness that him and mirio worked so hard for to the point where they cried when she finally smiled is in character? I feel like you are the one who doesn't know deku then. I am fully caught up on the manga. Deku is always about doing the right thing no matter what and there is no way helping gentle would be "the right thing." He might be willing to try and redeem villains now(in the manga I mean) but helping gentle break in wouldn't be helping to redeem him so deku would never do it because it is a villainous act that puts eri in danger and wouldn't help gentle become a better person. If anything, he'd be showing gentle that his villainy is okay. And that is not deku.
@@leeleelee7878 wow. I did not mean to make my comment so long. Sorry about that.
@@xmant8842 That's not the help I was talking about, but the same feeling he has towards someone like shigaraki, otherwise he would've tried to save muscular, overhaul or even afo in the manga
Heads up people in this world are a lot more durable than ours remember just a few months after deku start at school he had no time for durability training all might kicked him into a bus and walked it off these people are a thousand years ahead of us in the genetic lottery just remember that
shit is getting real now
Gentle is by far my favorite villain in this series.
Deku tells Gental that he has fought stronger people, Gental took it as an insult. It was a cry for help, look at what Deku has had to face so far.
Gentle is his most difficult opposent because he is like deku but he is the one who Lost hope
Yeah sadly it was Gentle's fault that guy got hurt. He was aware people with licenses aren't supposed to try and save people like that. Deku has one this a few times but he just got lucky it turned out alright in the end. Many like Gentle because he's a what if scenario if Deku actually messed up during an illegal rescue.
🎼🎶🎵
2 less lonely people in the world and it's gonna be fine....
imagine if la brava, had that love for deku
uraraka would get cucked
Would be like Eri power up but less effective
It’s interesting to compare La Brava to Toga.
I hope we see Gentle and LaBrava again
does anyone else think that Deku should be able to do a thunderclap type of move? Almost Like hulk in the comics. Random, but it’s just a thought lol
SHIBA INU! Aaaw I want to cuddle him
This arc was so wholesome. Between the concert and the story of these two criminals was so cute bro.
I didn't like la brava very much
UNTIL THIS EPISODE!!!
Doggie! 😃
Just wait for MVA and season 6 for a lot deaths.
Next episode now. Heroooooo tooo I am a hero to🎤🎸🥁
hmmm why is duk bloodthirsty? is this toga?
hero
This is probably one of the weakest adaptations in the whole show until season 5. In manga this fight was even more dynamic and cool. Not to mention they toned down emotions and energy all characters has shown. Which directly hit La Brava and Gentle - as they were so much better in the manga. Genuinely wish we had less budget spent on Overhaul or at least had Pro Hero arc fully pushed to season 5 instead being split in half.
Actually I hate (hero)
