Man, You are doing a great work, documenting something that from today standards, are considered obsolete, but still playable and considering that I discovered that there's today's game for this console, it shows that there are possible to someone still have fun with this console. Keep doing it, you have my Like!
thank you for making this series. Im 29 and i got my first atari when i was younger (i had from NES to Ps2 to this point). My step father bought me one with games at a yard sale. i was intrigued by it but we werent familar with rf adapter connector so we couldnt hook it up to a TV so it sat untouched. later I think he sold it or I did. My step dad passed away in 08, and wish so badly we wouldve all had more time with such a great man as he was. at 14/15 had started watching youtube and found AVGN and LGR inspired and I found that curiosity for the Atari and bought a new one with a connector adapter and have intermitently played atari ever since. sometimes i leave it for a while but i always come back. I hold Berzerk in very high regard. I would leave it on all day long and pick it up survive as long as I could tensing up with each new screen reset
That's awesome that he had picked up an Atari for you, It's too bad that the two of you couldn't play it together. While the Atari has very limiting hardware, some of the games too advantage of what it could do and make some very memorable and fun games!
Thanks for the kind words! I checked out your channel as well, looks very cool! I'll be watching the progress on your game. Loved playing on our old ST.
In mid 80s I was visitting my grandmother when I entered my uncle's room. I looked at him and he was holding a joystick. I looked up and my jaw dropped on the floor. He was playing River Raid, and it was the very first time I ever saw a videogame. I was about 4 years old. He let me play for a bit and I died almost instantly every time. I will never forget that day.
Haha, no, I would have been been covered in freckles with buckteeth at that age! That kid sure looks like he's having fun though! Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for the detailed explanation! So drawing just the cat and dog used up all the machine cycles? Wow, that is incredibly tight. So, if you use the wsync to double the vertical size of the sprite, how many free cycles do you have to change the background/playfield/other sprites on every second line?
Nice job! I'm not familiar (yet!) with the isb instruction. The only "illegal" instruction I've made much use of so far is the LAX instruction, but it looks like I should learn a few more of these instructions.
Thanks! Not sure when my episode on illegal instructions will be out. I'll need to think of use cases for each one and how they can make your 2600 dev easier.
18:17 - I honestly like the double and quadruple LEGO effect going on here!
It's a cool feature to have!
To answer your question from the end I first played river at a friend's house on the 2600. It left me with a good memory of the system!
I few of my friends has 2600's, and it was a lot of fun bringing cartridge's over to each others house to play for the afternoon!
Asteroids & Combat at a sleep over in upstate NY 1981, totally blew me away.
I've spent many hours playing both. They have unlimited replay-ability!
I was a kid in 80s and the 2 games were space invaders and combat. Still love space invaders to this day. Thanks for sharing.
Two of the greatest games!
Greetings for all Atarians from Poland;) .
Welcome, and thanks for joining us!
We got Donkey Kong and Mouse Trap with our Coleco Gemini. It was awesome! Joyports in the front!
That's awesome, I totally forgot about the Coleco Gemini! Thanks for reminding me!
MUCH better on the length of the intro and the style of it ..here is to 1000 subscribers :)
Thanks! Took a while but I think it's got a better flow now. Still working on everything, always something to improve upon.

Another excellent video, thanks for making these so clear.
Is that a younger version of you at 02:00?

This series is better than Squid Games.
lol, I wish I had their funding!

My pleasure! You get 76 machine cycles per scan line.

Combat and then SI.
Two absolute classics!
