This is awesome. It takes a village to raise a child. Kudos to the educators as well as the parents for ensuring that their children are a part of this remarkable program. They will be our future leaders :)
going to school at 7.00 am and finishing only at 5.00 pm sounds like fun. Seriously i don't understand why you guys complain. If a school like KIPP helps you get to college then its well worth it, since you're guaranteed a brighter future
I go to work at 8am and get out at either 5pm or 6pm depending on the amount of work I have to do. Glad to see a school system that is really preparing kids for the future. Kids should not complain about short school hours. Wait till they get real jobs.
I like this program! We all need, as parents to help in the learning of our children. These children will be our future! Which make up our nation, "The United States". Major corporations, city and state officials, academics, ect. More power to KIPP, very powerful!
That's the case for all K-12 schools. Students get pushed a lot more to complete their assignments and home work. With this being the case, having a success rate that's double the national average (for that demographic) is very impressive. Whether the student completes college or not isn't the goal here. Once the student is in college (as is the case with all people going into college), their willingness to finish is up to them.
I understand going to KIPP helps a lot of kids go to collage but they can do the same in other school just the same It's not just up to the teachers to make it happened it. It is also the parents to make it happen, because if they do not do homework and turn it in how are they going to get any were I am a mother of 4 children and 3 of them are strait A student's so it all up to how you really wont to get were you wont and your the only one that can make it happen no one else can.
Do you have first-hand experience with KIPP? At least they're doing something! You're right that it's not guaranteed, it's impossible to guarantee something like that. Too many factors come into play like home environment, friends kept, financial situations, etc.
There is no magic formula... No Excuses... Tracking, Character measuring... Where the Heck do you think that being responsible is learned? Its learned at home AND in SCHOOL... KIPP doesn't "BABY" you, If you don't perform you can't attend...
I have a little cousin that attends Kipp and I feel like the same thing that the students are leaning in Kipp can be taught in the regular schools also I feel like they try to make it seems as if Kipp is the only school that can get high scores also act like the regular schools dont have good after school programs neither. I was always taught that when speaking to look the person in the eye ok who wouldnt teach their children that.
@SuperStreamlineTV You arent guarenteed a "brighter future" you need to work hard like anything else In this video they also give us more positive info from KIPP, what they leave out though is that although many of them have went to college, many of them didn't complete it. This is because at KIPP they baby you and force you to do work where as at college they dont give. The kids need to learn how to be responsible on their own because they dont become responsible if teachers force em to do work
I understand they are trying to help the kids be prepared and ready to get the education they need to get good jobs BUT... What happened to being kids? 7:30am to 5pm is a bit ridiculous. When you become an adult, all you do is work and pay bills. All we had when we were young was us time after school. Now, its getting to the point of working nonstop since you are born. Let them be kids, then, as they get in higher grades, start to help get them ready. Don't take away their childhood, its already getting difficult as it is for them. I have two girls, both are very smart and doing well in school but there is NO WAY I would stick them in one of these. Its not up to everyone else to raise their children. Us, as parents, are responsible to help keep them on track and move them towards a successful life. I have mixed feelings on this. Not only are you taking away their freedom and chance to be a kid but you're taking away an extra two hours from their life to be one and to spend with family. This is NOT my kind of (as they say) "cup of tea."
It's important to consider that underprivileged children may not have the traditional childhood that comes to mind. Their parents are probably working all day and there is no one to take care of them. Also, there may be gangs in the neighborhood that can be a bad influence. Considering all of these factors, I think it is better for children to stay at school for longer. It is a safe space and it's free childcare, not to mention, they are doing something that will benefit their future.
I'm sorry but being a former kip student this won't work I had to leave because the system is failing I'm lucky that I'm in high school know and tht I'm ap I was behind going here

this is what will get us on par with the other countries.
I wish they would of had this around along time ago!! Great program!
Expecting parents to be involved in their children's education?

THE HW IS HARD and that’s why I barely do it sadly
@littlelovelypuppi :) I hate it when teachers yell. I get upset when they do that!
I'm sorry but being a former kip student this won't work I had to leave because the system is failing I'm lucky that I'm in high school know and tht I'm ap I was behind going here
@littlelovelypuppi Alright, but I rather get out at 2;00 p.m.!
I would not like going to school until 5:00 p.m.! KIPP must be fucking crazy! I am so glad that I did not go to KIPP!
