RIP Craig. He was such a lovely person. In 2012 me and a friend booked a The Smiths based Manchester tour with him and it was much more than just about The Smiths. It was basically a complete Manchester tour while he drove us around in his car and showed us the best places to see, where to eat, where to drink and which places to visit outside of Manchester. We hooked up again the next day and he also put us on a guest list of a club. I still have his signed Manchester Music Tours book which I hold dearly.
RIP Craig undoubtedly 1 of the best bands ever to come out of Manchester up there with joy division sat here on my own with the carpets blasting the walls out😂
Top tune .spirals were one of my favourite bands from indie scene along with the stone roses the mondays the farm james and the charlatans .saw the spirals live in my home town loved it .what a night.
In my youth Had someone told me What would come And how things would be Then those days would've been a much brighter place But the doubt of not knowing Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake To celebrate our bond [I'm gonna build a monument] I'll cut the stone today [On the side of a mountain] Where all my doubts once lay [The biggest mountain] One thing I can gaurantee Is what you've done means everything to me Waking Monday Reading Saturday's news In a town I've not seen before Curious Small and ugly room I can't find the door and everywhere There's faces smiling at me To celebrate our bond [I'm gonna build a monument] I'll cut the stone today [On the side of a mountain] Where all my doubts once lay [The biggest mountain] One thing I can gaurantee Is what you've done means everything to me In my youth Had someone told me What would come And how things would be Then those days would've been a much brighter place And the doubts of not knowing Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake To celebrate our bond [I'm gonna build a monument] I'll cut the stone today [On the side of a mountain] Where all my doubts once lay [The biggest mountain] One thing I can gaurantee Is what you've done means everything to me To celebrate our bond [I'm gonna build a monument] I'll cut the stone today [On the side of a mountain] Where all my doubts once lay [The biggest mountain] One thing I can gaurantee Is what you've done means everything to me To celebrate our bond [I'm gonna build a monument] I'll cut the stone today [On the side of a mountain] Where all my doubts once lay [The biggest mountain] One thing I can gaurantee Is what you've done means everything to me Everything to me Everything to me
I had this on vinyl, it had Biggest Mountain, I'll Keep it in Mind and Weakness (aka W.E.A.K.N.E.S.....S!) and I went and sold it FFS. It's my most missed record, even more than all my Stone Roses one's. To me Inspiral Carpets were right up there with the Stone Roses and they were completely under-rated and kind of eclipsed by the Roses. Fucking great band!
@hibeegirl17 Good catch! I managed to pick up an Greatest Hits signed by Clint Boon in an obscure shop in the lake district, AND I was listening to the Inspirals on my ipod as I walked in. Weird! Anyway, let's raise our merchandise to them!
previous speakers and music lecturers are indeed right, this song along with Golden Brown by Stranglers is as good as it is soothing. Great achievement !
For me this is every bit a Christmas song as Madness sun and the rain, spice girls 2 become one and east seventeen stay another day.. This will probably get lost in history.. Sadly!..
Inspirals music was streets ahead of the Roses, Charletans and Mondays (although all 3 were good bands). They never got the recognition they deserved due to not releasing their best tunes as singles.
I wore the "cool as fuck" cow t-shirt on a no school uniform day, and got sent to the deputy headmaster, who was a god bothering sandal wearer, so I apologised like mad.
wonderful song this shame the roses and the mondays overshadowed these guys because they were totally one of their own love that bit at near the end 3.35 like some elizabethan mandolin totally original.
@jim25shwp .......dude take a moment here please,i agree that the inspirals were and still are an underated band but to say their music was"streets ahead of the roses" is completely crazy, and as for "not releasing their best tunes as singles".....em.....waterfall,i am the resurrection, this is the one, where angels play, tears, how do you sleep,.......need i go on....
Fair enough, point taken although I still think the Inspirals were (are) way better, streets ahead was perhaps an exageration. The singles bit was a reference to the Inspiral Carpets, not to the Roses.
remember goin to man united v liverpool match when the inspirals were in the charts, flares and sandles, all the united fans were dressed the same class love the inspirals, fuckin hate scousers lol

His passing still remains devastating.
I was touched by your comment what an experience you had i met craig at a HMV signing in leeds i had a good chat with him lovely lad totally sound.
What a band to open your mind, to expansive music. Oldham's finest.
One of the cleanest sounding 12" records I ever put a needle to.
Such a tune, such a band, best indie band of the 90's
RIP Craig, I hope you stand on the biggest mountain ever seen...
Word. x
RIP Craig undoubtedly 1 of the best bands ever to come out of Manchester up there with joy division sat here on my own with the carpets blasting the walls out😂
I remember this song. A nice time in my life
One of the greatest songs ever from one of the greatest bands ever
Top tune .spirals were one of my favourite bands from indie scene along with the stone roses the mondays the farm james and the charlatans .saw the spirals live in my home town loved it .what a night.
Absolutely fantastic band! Reflecting the solemn atmosphere of a great city!
One of the bands very best tunes and very Stranglers-like.
2021 still sounds so frickin good
In my youth
Had someone told me
What would come
And how things would be
Then those days would've been a much brighter place
But the doubt of not knowing
Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake
To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me
Waking Monday
Reading Saturday's news
In a town
I've not seen before
Curious
Small and ugly room
I can't find the door and everywhere
There's faces smiling at me
To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me
In my youth
Had someone told me
What would come
And how things would be
Then those days would've been a much brighter place
And the doubts of not knowing
Leaves a stigma that is hard to shake
To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me
To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]
I'll cut the stone today
[On the side of a mountain]
Where all my doubts once lay
[The biggest mountain]
One thing I can gaurantee
Is what you've done means everything to me
To celebrate our bond
[I'm gonna build a monument]

Everything to me
Everything to me

I wore the "cool as fuck" cow t-shirt on a no school uniform day, and got sent to the deputy headmaster, who was a god bothering sandal wearer, so I apologised like mad.

God I was lucky to be in my teens during Madchester.
Certainly one oof the best songs ever written. Reminds me of very early Genesis, by the way...
I agree with your first statement. But I don't dig Genesis.
Muito boa!!!
mr boon play me that CHOON!
AMAZING
Pure excellence
Fair enough, point taken although I still think the Inspirals were (are) way better, streets ahead was perhaps an exageration. The singles bit was a reference to the Inspiral Carpets, not to the Roses.
Choon!
"Good Night!.... See you at the party! ".
2011!!
what you've done means everything to me.
remember goin to man united v liverpool match when the inspirals were in the charts, flares and sandles, all the united fans were dressed the same class love the inspirals, fuckin hate scousers lol
What more can you say.
Like the Golden Brown bit at 3.38.
All of this arguing should stop before it gets out of hand. The Roses had Blackpool and Inspirals. Definitely the 2 best live bands of the bunch.
Golden brown....
RIP Craig Gill
Najs :)
this was where mulligan and o'hare were born.......on the mountan.....
Was Tom still on the toilet or something? 😆
