Diana told me real reason her marriage to Charles failed just before she died - it wasn't Camilla

- DIANA revealed the real reason her marriage with Charles ended shortly before death, says a royal expert.
Royal author Ingrid Seward spoke on The Sun's Royal Exclusives Show about a conversation she had with the late princess before she died.
The royal expert told The Sun's Royal Editor, Matt Wilkinson, Camilla was not the reason their marriage broke down despite the stories.
"She had this spectre of Camilla in her head the whole time, she was obsessed, yet when I last spoke to her I brought Camilla up, and she said 'oh it wasn't Camilla that ruined our marriage'," said Ingrid.
"She said, 'it was the people around my husband', and I thought to myself 'it wasn't Camilla? You've been complaining and complaining about her all these years'."
The author continued: "But she changed tact, and said it was the environment in which keeping a royal marriage together, you've got to be very strong, and probably far more mature than she was."
When asked about Queen Camilla stepping up for King Charles since his cancer diagnosis, Ingrid hailed her for taking on extra duties.
"She led them into King Constantine's memorial service, but it was different on Easter Sunday and people really respect her," said the expert.
"She was 50 when she got into this family and now she's 76. Unless you're born into it, it's quite hard, the Windsors have massive energy.
"Charles as a young man used to run everywhere, Prince Philip would run everywhere.
"Camilla doesn't have that kind of energy, and it really takes it out of her and I think a lot of people have a lot of respect for her."

I don't believe for a second that Diana said that to her. At all.
Ditto
She did have meeting and "private" relationships with journalists, such as Richard
Kay.
Interesting... I do. At first, though, I thought she was going to name the nanny. Do you remember when Diana made that loud comment at some gathering about 'sorry about losing the baby', referring to an alleged abortion that the nanny was supposed to have had? Diana was no saint. She vied for the attention, and was too immature to understand her role in that marriage, which was to support her husband, the future monarch. She failed at that miserably. She also lied to Charles about 'loving country life', which she actually hated. Had she been honest, I doubt he would have married her, despite the pressure from his grandmother and hers.
I have read some where years ago Diana said she didn't blame Camilla and she was very greatfull to her? True or not that's what was reported??
Easy for her to “ recall” this revelation which can’t be emphatically denied!
A loving husband is proud of his wife's beauty, not put off by the attention she gets.
Charles did not have the most steadying of upbringings and neither did Diana. They were both lacking the same foundation and couldn't give it to each other.
On the other hand, the US president JFK had a stable upbringing, if rather competitive.
When his wife Jackie, out shown him ( which was often), he had the smarts to take it as a comment on his choice of wife .
When, on a state visit to France, she charmed DeGaulle and all the French.( She was fluent in French).
At the state dinner. His first words were , " Hello, I am the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to France". Grace under pressure. He had the room in his hand after that very wise remark.
@@nancymoore1240 JFK being the US President had real executive power not just ceremonial. While Charles role is soley ceremonial, Diana except at the beginning manipulated the medium and took to overshine the principle against the hierarchy of the royal tradition; no wonder Charles was threatened and she became a headache to the RF.

The press fell in love with Jackie bec she was pretty & glamorous. The press fell in love with Diana for the same reasons.
No one can handle who the press chose to focus on.
You assume, without evidence, Diana started this as a naive teenager. Remember, she got no help whatsoever from the palace in fitting in. No Sophie, no ladies in waiting. Nobody. Diana was roundly criticized in the press all the time, like Fergie was. Sells papers.
JFK was >10 yrs older than Charles and far more experienced in PR from all his political battles. He handled his wife's popularity much better. Making them a unit, where her popularity reflected well on him.
JFK was the top dog, not next in line. JFK was not insecure, coming from a much stronger family of origin than Charles came from, and led a far more normal life.
Charles seems much more comfortable & secure now, after all these experiences.
Long live the King!
Charles and Camilla seem to be great friends. That is the key to a happy marriage & a happy life.
@greed. re@l friendship. unlike those other ones, where little h@wwy gets so exploited it exceeds definition.

But he vowed before God to be faithful to Diana alone. God will hold him to that and when he calls him to account at the judgement seat the moment after he dies he will begin to learn the awful solemnity of breaking your vows and commiting adultery.
@@jonathanbuss7538 Do you have the same judgement of Diana? She was also unfaithful only with multiple men and one of them was married to another woman at the time.
I'm not a perfect person nor have I lived a perfect life. If I have any hope of God forgiving my transgressions, I believe I must forgive other people of theirs first. Do you agree?
Charles had hoped that he & Diana could make their marriage work if they started as friends
I've heard Camilla has osteopenia or osteoarthritis and a lot of spinal pain so really, she is doing an extraordinary job at stepping up and helping through this time.
My mother has that, much worse than Camilla. Yet she cared for my father during the last years of his life. My father was a real man, he didn't need a woman to keep telling him how good he was doing. Spineless men like Charles make me puke.

There is also another overlooked facet why Prince William and Princess Catherine might get along so well: They were study-buddies. University-friendships are generally very strong and last often for a life-time. People, who fall in love with fellow-students in that time period, always have a baseline of seeing one another as equals. There are similarities in minds and values. Catherine was not just a princess coming in from a country estate or a fox-hunt gathering. William and Catherine shared formative experiences together in their Alma Mater, surrounded by equally like-minded friends.
Such a good point!😊

So he should have left Diana alone instead of pretending he was in love "whatever love means" with her. She was his brood mare. Camilla was fine with that as she had him on the side for decades. A supportive spouse is heaven on earth.

Charles needed mothering and Camilla knows how to do that with Charles. They're compatible and Diana and Charles were definitely Not compatible. Diana needed parenting and nuturing too and Charles couldn't do that.
The rules for royalty prevented Charles and Camilla from marrying initially, and that was just wrong. Charles never should have married Diana. She should have been a woman who found the right kind of man for her and she'd most likely be alive today and happy. She was too young to decide whom to marry.
Diana was mislead thinking it would be her fairytale come true marrying him. She did not know the reality of her role in this union, just as PC didn't realize how things would end for her and just think...she stayed in her place and played the role for the longest. Arranged marriages hardy ever work Now he is married for love and it shows Sadly Diana never found it.
Actually, you are so mistaken! Arranged marriages outlast love matches more than 10 to one. I think being duty bound as one of the tenets is a factor. But whatever the reason the stats are quite interesting.
I was so sad for what happened to Diana if she was here today a lot of things would b different
@@bellepierre24You’ve neglected to explain why arranged marriages last 10x longer than love matches. Is it because divorce is never allowed? Are the arranged marriages happy and satisfying to both husband and wife? Are the marriages loveless? Are they business arrangements? Do the souses have to give up hope for a love match to satisfy the demands of the family? Implying the arranged marriages last long because they are wholly wonderful is not enough.
But Diana did find love, however she did not live long enough for it to become established enough to allow the public into it. I'm happy and relieved for her that she did finally find it since that was something she always wanted. They would have been a good match because they were both healers. He healed bodies and she healed spirits and hearts. If their relationship had been further along, I could see them becoming a powerful world class team for causes. Losing her is a terrible loss for us all. She was a very special person.
@@Brembelia I don't think this was an "arranged marriage" I think this was a deranged marriage! Much like "lady" Diana herself!! She had been dreaming about marrying Charles since her childhood according to her family and friends. She meets Charles again after growing up around him a bit. They date a few times and are engaged when she is 19 but barely know each other however according to society Diana is an adult. Where was the public out-cry back then? At 20 they are married. By 21 she is a mother and yet shows no signs of "joining in" with the royal family but isn't this what Diana wanted? Diana just wanted to do things her own way. There is no I in team work. As her behavior becomes more than erratic Charles tries to help and so does the queen who so often reaches out. Diana does not want to have therapy. Yet she gave speeches about mental health. Charles turns to his friend Camilla for advice and those old feelings start to resurface. Diana turns on everyone including her own mother and family and staff and newcomers such as Sophie and friends. I honestly think Charles needed more help than the disturbed Diana. Diana wanted more attention and revenge and pity. When her and Andrew Morton wrote a book about Charles everything went south! What husband could trust his own wife who is plotting against him? Diana admitted to cheating first but at this point Diana had lost Charles. Married boyfriends coming back to Kensington Palace didn't help much and constantly going after the variety of men was more than Diana just being "lonely". She was never shy Di - she was Sly Di and vulgar... Go! Just go!
Fascinating insight into Diana’s last thoughts on her marriage! Sometimes when people are angry after a break up, the want someone to blame, as anger dissolves, the real reasons come out.
Do you really believe what ingrid Seward says and now Diana is dead because of it so convenient
I have been team Diana for so long. I think since she married Charles and especially after Diana died. I started to be team Camilla when Meghan and Harry left the royal family and when they started whining about and attacking the royal family. The contrast between Meghan's behavior and Camilla's made me see how well Camilla has behaved over the years, how she endured a lot of the bad press while never fighting back, never speaking out against Diana or against the royal family. I have now come to realize that Diana and Charles were simply wrong and incompatible with one another and in the long run, it is and was better for Charles to be with Camilla, with someone he loves and who loves him.

Charles and Diana were a mismatch. That may be why they both saw the marriage as a vehicle to promote themself, individually rather than as a team. That sort of marriage can be successful if both parties are discrete, honest with and don't compete with the other.
They needed to have a true friendship to pull off a marriage of arrangement like that I think.
A true friendship or dedicated to respecting their agreement.
Charles did it for Mummy and Country. He was doing his duty. Diana did it because ... she was not destined to be anything else. She was uneducated and a nutter. Just like Harry.
Charles didn’t need to promote himself, he was, before Lady Diana decided on an ARRANGED MARRIAGE with him, deeply popular and much loved! He was our heartthrob, crowds were at all his events, he was the one we wanted to see!!
Diana was clearly deeply needy (her mother upped and left with her lover to go live in Australia when Diana was Five years old, and apparently Diana never got over it (who would)!
It was Diana who hogged the lime light, who didn’t support her husband, who didn’t respect that HE was the royal not her!! I hated watching her behaviour taking the lime light, and yes she was loved, but she promoted and expected that.
Watching Camilla and Catherine (and Prince Philip) you see how they promoted, honoured and respected their Royal spouse (Camilla and Catherine still do of course). Each one not making it about them but about their Royal spouse and about the event!!
But Diana always made any event about her! She needed the adoration, and her side eyes wasn’t imo shyness, it was in her case slyness!
I saw through her from the beginning.
Charles looked shell shocked most of the time with Diana yards and more away from him gathering the crowds around her in walk abouts. Making it about her! Imagine seeing Meghan doing that as she would of course, just like Diana!
The exhibition she made of herself in India sitting alone like the poor little victim, side eyes, crying, sad!! Well she was at the time also engaged in numerous affairs!! Some with married men! Some she declared she adored!!
What a manipulator!! And there was Charles trying to get on with his official duties on that official visit to India, and the very reason they were there!!!
But Diana made it all about her, as usual! Diana promoting herself as usual rather than the Monarchy!!!
And all that also affected those boys of hers, she never thought of that, she never stopped to think how will this affect our boys in the future!
I was sad she died though, no one would wish that.
She was a virgin who never had any other boyfriends.
I think with Kate and William you can see the spark between them .
That's the love story in all of this but the media are still pulling them down shades of Diana & Charles

Nobody knows what goes on in a marriage. Charles and Diana were a mismatch from the start. However, I will say this: King Charles has done immense good works through the Prince's Trust and his environmental endeavors etc. and Princess Diana changed the worldwide perception towards AIDS patients (our modern day lepers if you think about it) LITERALLY overnight. She also had the guts to take on the landmine issue, and that was a decision fraught with risk and even death threats towards her. Thus, they are/were each remarkable people in their own way, and I prefer to think of them way rather than dwell on any human failings, which we all have, or what the reasons were behind their divorce.
It is too bad Charles' allegiance is to the WEF and not the Commonwealth.

Neither Camilla nor Charles were faithful in their marriages. I know that Camilla's husband also had affairs but Diana deserved better. She was faithful to Charles and hopeful that their marriage would work. However, when she realized that it wouldn't (because he refused to stop seeing Camilla), she had an affair. Diana did love Charles and she believed in the family unit. She would have loved for that relationship to work.

When you're an emotionally needy person because of your upbringing, you need someone who comes from a balanced and loving family to help you get through life. Two needy people rarely succeed together in relationship - unless their needs and strengths really complement each other. But that is so rare, and it's nobody's fault. It really takes a strong person helping the other, who they hopefully really love. But it must get very tiring for the strong one.
The needy person is a drain and vampire on the emotionally stable one. Ideally, 2 emotionally stable people get together and produce emotionally stable children. And the emotionally unstable people stay out of relationships until they sort themselves out, but if they do marry an emotionally stable person, pray to God they don’t have kids because the needy one can only take and not give. They take everything from the healthy spouse so the children are only left with the crumbs and then the needy one comes and gobbles up the crumbs from them.
Diana was the stable one between the two of them. She provided stability for the boys even though her husband was unfaithful.

I believe that Camilla was the love of his life and always will be. At this stage in their personal lives they deserve to be left alone. They suffered too, it wasn't only Diana. I'm convinced that the more insecure one is in their own marriage, the more they hate those who are truly in love. @@connieechols2111😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You are 100% wrong. Charles and Camilla had everything to do with the breakup of that marriage.
You can put words into a dead woman's mouth? More damage limitations by Camilla?
Who are you kidding?
Yes, this stuff is damage control / public relations trying to smooth things over and change the story.
The gentleman conducting the interview could really use a little help to sharpen up his diction. I had to turn on captions to understand him, and even they struggled to catch everything he said. Ms Seward on the other hand was crystal clear. It's not just the regional accent, it's the mumbling and swallowing bits of words that make it difficult.
Anyone with eyes 👀 can see they make an extraordinary good match. 😻
Two bustards together.
Like I’ve said many times Diana chopped & changed her reasons for hating Charles to suit her narrative at the time very much like her daughter in law to Narcissists they would never have got on. And I do not believe Charles was jealous I believe he was perplexed that she had to make everything a popularity contest much like Meghan, she was once taken aside by the old Duke and told that being a member of the Royal Family was not a popularity contest their purpose was to support the Monarch not upstage it but Diana never got it if the family got some good press she would have to come out of the woodwork and do or say something to upset every thing.
We need to let this go, Diana has.
You would think that this narrative is dead and buried, like Diana.
Camilla is doing a great job
A great job of rewriting history. There are plenty of us alive who know the real truth. Diana was treated horribly by Charles and Camilla.
You know you're something special when you're too good for the king of a country😮 Diana outshined the King Day in Day Out
But literally anyone could outshine him. He's no soul.
Camilla and Charles were meant to be together and thy finally got to.
I have admired Queen Camilla for years and was DELIGHTED when they married forget the CONSORT the Kings wife is HIS QUEEN I wrote to her because I thought she was getting a bad rep the King did his duty (a heir and a spare it's time the Spare grew up she's an amazing lady and she's kind!.
dont be silly. Camilla is queen consort
@@glen7318 Sometimes people don't understand 'consort' versus 'monarch' after having been blessed with the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II. ALL 'queens' after Victoria were 'consorts.' Victoria was the last female monarch before Elizabeth. So, Edward's Alexandria, George's (V) Mary, George's (VI) Elizabeth were all 'consorts' as they were the wives of the monarchs. Queen Camilla is an outstanding support to her husband, Charles. It is regrettable that they were not allowed to marry earlier on in their relationship. That level of love is rare and wonderful. LONG LIVE THE KING!
@norahjanzen7222 You are actually calling Harry a spare. He was being fecetious when he called himself that. There is nothing dutiful about impregnating a female any lowlife creature can procreate. What century did you fall out from?
In my opinion, the Common Wealth and the world love and cherish Princess Catherine as much, if not more than Princess Diana.
Catherine is a much better balanced person, no apparent hang-ups or jealousies.
Sorry, but I never loved Diana. I may have felt sorry for her having mental health issues, but she always came across as very manipulate.

When the royal 'romance ' started in 1980, I was dating my prince. I remember showing him the famous Diana's photo insemitransparent skirt at the nursery school to show how pretty she was. However, my love told me that Diana has very cold eyes and it isn't pretty. And indeed Diana has very cold stare in this photo, and in many later ones, where she is not posing sad for paps.

@@Flibbles Here here!!
It is sad that Diana’s “there were three of us in this marriage” comment will always be in the public’s mind as her view on why the marriage failed (that is: Camilla was the bad guy) when we now know that, over time, Diana had a better perspective and realized that there was a more toxic element: Charles’ staff. I hope that lessons have been learned on that count and that other RF marriages are aware of that pitfall.
"There were three of us in this marriage" was an accurate statement. It's a shame Charles and Camilla can't own up to this fact. Camilla, in most people's minds, will always be the manipulative mistress and Charles will be the unfaithful, cruel husband. Can Charles and Camilla still be good at other things (like running a country)? Sure but they shouldn't try to rewrite history.
At 81, those of us who were there at the time, knew the real story.
Absolutely, we do. Camilla and Charles cheated on Diana and cheated her out of her position.
Absolutely a mismatch!
Diana only said 3 in the marriage she never said she hated her.
Diana called Camilla "the Rottweiler." Do you think that was an enduring name?
You can say anything about someone after they have died. Who is going to dispute it.
You can see their love is so true, they adore each other!
Diana had at least 5 lovers!
shock horror.
And caused 2 marriage break ups.
Not a chance Diana said that to "Sunny Face"
Wonderful interview.
Mistakes indeed happen. Diana and Charles have ended. Diana was naive. I take it as a lesson to not be 19 and be married to a man whom I am barely familiar with.
At 19, that was probably the best that Diana could hope to achieve. She was uneducated and, as we later found out, she was a nutter.
They both had too much pressure from their families
Diana inherited 50,000 pounds at 17yrs - she bought a 4 bedroom apartment near Sloane Square, had 3 flat mates paying her rent & she had 2 part time jobs - she could be very, very canny - definitely not a backward teenager
@@susanlockyer1192 what is that supposed to mean? She had money of her own, and she rented out rooms in her flat.. what is wrong with that?
I take it as "don't marry a cheater, Diana."
PRINCESS DIANA WAS TO YOUNG FOR THE ROLE I THINK SHE RELIZED IT ,
I love this couple!
I’m so happy for them as it turns out, they are brilliant together xx The King is so likeable and has much more of a smile on his face. He has become a confident King; love the true royals.

Well, I'm sure he did everything he could to make Diana happy (sigh).

Wishing all the best and good health to all of them. Thank you for this great interview.
"It was an arranged marriage between two very prominent houses: the Spencers and the Windsors. The Spencer ancestral line boasts more blue-blood heritage than the RF. Diana, being naive, truly believed that Charles loved her as she loved him. The significant age difference played a major role. Camilla, being Charles's contemporary and within his social circle, though not as aristocratic as Diana, shared more commonalities with him. Diana came to realize this after the divorce. There were photographs capturing their meetings and warm greetings with kisses. While Diana and Charles both exhibited spite during their marriage, Diana matured and came to understand their incompatibility (despite Charles inferiority/jealousy complex with her persona with the public). William acknowledges this, but Harry, sheltered from their arguments and petty conflicts, relies on advice from his therapist and Meghan. William harbors love for his father and appreciates Camilla for making him happy. Harry just wants to bring up bad memories that he thinks happened & wants to punish his father - even though said father loves him & raised him to be the person he was before Meghan came on the scene."
As Diana later commented - I read too many Barbara Cartland books

I loved Diana but she and Charles should never have married in the first place, they were totally different people, with not a lot in common, Camilla was always Charles first choice, but cicumstances were against them, Camilla is good for Charles, and he looks happy with her, and I think there is no doubt that he loves her,

Neither could Charles and Camilla!

Yes read that book Patrick J wrote it seems she felt continually the spying on her and the cruel controls but especially the dismissiveness towards Diana’s hard work. She was not lazy.
One cannot predict long term happiness in a marriage; it is there or it isn't but both sides must commit for a marriage to be happy. I think Diana was too immature for Charles and not ready to be the mother of two growing children; babies and toddlers maybe, but not older children. The worst thing about Diana was when the marriage split up she became spiteful, which undid a lot of what she had achieved.
Will you ever let her rest in peace? Stop gossiping!
