I met a guy who was Homeless in Catalina (Lived in a run down boat right outside the harbor). He swore he would go diving and find gold and things from OLD shipwrecks and swore he knew of a spot for more, but needed help. Sadly I didn't trust him as he was hammered at 7am... but NOW im kicking myself in the ass .....

If you listen to prospectors, a 20 thousand dollar find is thought of as a big find. $20,000 won't set a person up for a year...but a 20 dollar an hour job will. Depending on what the guy needed in the way of help, it may have been a good lead. He did manage to own a "run-down boat" and did live on Catalina...just needed to get sober.
I'm not sure if Tom and Emma's child has been born yet, but even if Tom ain't officially a dad, that tropical shirt and sailing hat have him looking like one!! Makes me smile fondly at memories of sailing San Diego bay with my dad, dressed exactly like that.

Spain wants the bell. The US government wants to find it for them. I can neither confirm nor deny knowledge of this bell’s whereabouts
Maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way. Which, in the case of Samuel Prentiss, was a donkey named Marv and a stone that looked like a giant peanut.

The key to finding hidden treasure is to never tell anyone about it. In addition you take as much as you can discretely, and live a humble yet comfortable lifestyle. That's the only way to win as the person who found the treasure; slowly pilfering your find for years until its all gone or someone else finds it.
This was AWESOME! I love a treasure hunt! It doesn't matter to me if the treasures been found or not.... the journey is everything. Catalina island, the ocean, the sky are all so beautiful.. it's Patriots Day here in America and after prayers and reflection this morning I can't think of a better way to enjoy and relax my afternoon. Just a wonderful job, thank you for taking us on the adventure.
Who knew!? Til now that all those years of visiting Catalina the Isthmus and fishing off it's shores that Spanish Galleons used to dock there and the possibility of treasure. Even then Sir Francis Drake stalking it's waterways. Awesome history.

You could sail up into Harrison off the Fraser river in those days, through a "poulder" hence the name "Pitt Poulder" given by the Dutch who homesteaded and drained the lands in the Pitt Meadows area in 1910, dropped the "hectares" into a numbered company and it's now a golf course. !! (Friends in the cattle biz leased the acreage for decades).
Spanish explorers in the late 18th century went up the pacific coast at least up to Cordova (Alaska), where they met with russian explorers coming from the west. I guessed they settled in B.C. few decades before that.

Here (Northern PA) a dirt poor farmer found some buried coins (and China) from the Revolution era in his field while plowing. The state claimed it on him. But they did give him a $100 finders fee. lol. Rumors are he found stuff after that but didn't report it. Can't say I can blame him. Let it be a lesson. Don't report anything to the government unless you want it stolen.
they didn't steal it. it belongs to the government. the alternative is selling it on the black market for substantially less than its worth and facing being caught and prosecuted later on

Interesting. We lived on Catalina in the 70’s. I found something in my grandfather’s things that looks like a treasure map. Basically, a drawing of the island with a big “X”. Makes me kinda wonder!
I live right there in Long Beach, have easy access to Catalina island, heard stories of this treasure all my life, haven't found it yet myself lol but if I do I'm sharing a good part of it with you, Tom! :D
Another excellent job of laying out the facts with great video! Wherever the treasure(s) ended up we may never know for sure. But the stories about them weave a delightful tale to tickle the mind's fancy. And that is what you have done with this video.
If I had found the treasure I would have tried to sell one of the coins for way more than spot value but it would have been difficult to try to sell more than one coin without provoking many questions from others. If I needed more money to spend, I would have had to melt some of it down to avoid suspicion.

Upon finding out that the hold of the captured Spanish ship was empty, surely Sir Francis Drake must have drawn the conclusion that the crew of said galleon hid the treasure. So, couldn‘t he have forced the crew of the galleon to reveal the whereabouts of the treasure? If so, the treasure should have been transported to England, right?
@@PartTimeExplorer It was definitely common practice to torture the crew if they had hidden some treasure. There are actually sources that indicate that Sir Francis Drake did exactly that, but whether he did it in this instance…I guess we‘ll never know.

The cave on the cliff only has old goat skulls in it , lived on the island for 5 years and exploded everything I could being a campground ranger

It is really weird that with treasure in Britain, the finder is rewarded with the treasure's current value but in the US the finder is screwed.
If I find treasure I won't come ashore till I reach England.
