Our AU is 20 years old this year and is still our daily drive. It is going strong with 473000 km on the clock. We have only ever replaced the alternator on it! Love it.
I have had 2 AUs. 1) 465 000 km and only got rid of it as the transmission began slipping. 2) Currently 340 000 km and still drives beautifully and tight.
yep.... I had one as a company car then got a brand new BA.... they went downhill a bit after the AU, until the end, but always better than ANY holden..... love my meteorite AU II SR.... so many new parts in it lately jsut to make sure it has at least another 2 decades in it
At the end was awesome 👌 I didn't that in my au marlin ute whenever I went camping or any chance I could. It was a beast 💪 I'm a carpenter and used it as it was and it went places it probably shouldn't of but the look on the guy's face when he pulls up in his flash 4x4 and hear I am in my 2001 red, faded red au ut with mud flaps dragging on the road from side to side and a bazillion lights on it I just loved it but unfortunately a small accident and apparently it wasn't worth fixing and the wife was happy to see it gone 😭. So was I. Now I got a 4x4 nav d40 dual cab. Fun but not an au. But got an fg xr6 but it no au 😔 🤣 just saying the au is tuff as nuts
I have owned a variety of AU models and B series over the years and completely rebuilt 1 AU from ground up because I could best highway cruiser use bugger all fuel reliable powerful mods can be done to the old 4.0L Intech SOHC that only wet dreams are made of much like its brother the barra. I guess this car is like ur guys version of the ford crown victoria. We get the crown vic u guys get that. Both are deadly reliable and used by police, rwd offered in many trim levels and packages and good at everything. Ive always wanted a v8 falcon.. now i want one even more
I miss the days when they didn't enjoy recognition and were used sensibly. You know, like having a filter when driving though dust. Why not pour aluminium oxide powder in the intake if you really want to murder it?
if the rpm jumped then it jumped because you increased torque, probably not exactly but wheel speed went up about 6% assuming factory torque (354nm (x to doubt)) it would have made 371nm. on a dyno chart for an intech i found online torque actually falls to 338nm at 4000rpm so it wouldnt have been producing more horsepower than limiter bashing first. however it did indeed increase wheel speed and rpm by 6% so a safe assumption could be that you produced 5% more torque in the high rev range yeah thats measurable im about to do extractors and exhaust and i might see that

This is what Aussie top gear should have been
The au is the best car ever produced in aus. Nothing can change my mind

I love my AUs. My babies are a '91 EB and a 2001 AUII. They are my toys, tow vehicles, and daily drive.

Love hearing it!! On ya Jules!
I've pulled a couple of hiluxs out with an au
I got a BA xr6 ute. Tough as nails and very well put together.
We need Whistlin diesel to get one to do a proper test haha 😂
Hahaha. Cody goes really hard, but he keeps too much oil in the sumps of his vehicles for my taste unfortunately though hahaha.
@@carculture3376that was not proper enough for you?
You’re going places mate keep up the work

I remember how hated these were in 98 when they first came out. Such a shame.

I wish we got cool cars like that in the US. We get the cheapest watered down versions of everything.

Austraria whistlindiesel for real.
In 1987 I had a hk holden that would outlast this thing no Worries.
I paddock bashed that thing for years.
The 186 was so sludged up it couldn’t die
No 186 will EVER outlast a maintained intech , EVER .
"Doesn't even have a filler." Filter.
Can’t spell Australia without AU.
blew a rod out the side of an au intech. xr5 au still drifted back to the shed on the key (auto so no fuckery)
Y'all talk funny
Its only whistlindiesel and top gear that have done tests on hiluxes
Surely you could have more fun at the local speedway ??.
A hiluxs would run that au over mate
I'd happily 1v1 a Hilux in a demo Derby with my AU. HMU if your keen, it would make a great episode.
1:00 let it hit lomite
That amount of Ks on an AU is nothing
It was just run in mate.
They keep going because the rotors are shit on them thats how they don;t ever stop🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Take it through one river crossing and it’ll be dead! Hilux is still tougher because they aren’t scared of puddles!
AU Xr8 past owner, 3 diffs in it, under warranty, I I did nothing bad to make it need 3….. ha ha ha
Destroying a good car , just to prove what most people , even non ford fans already know , there near indestructable.
