lol. Looking at your video made me feel so good!! So I’m not the only one who actually “lives” in their house and cleans when they are ready for it 😊😊

that has been my house at so many different points in life it's crazy. And even crazier is you knowing it's a mess, feeling uncomfortable with the mess, wanting to deal with the mess but can't because you can't because you're dead on your feet tired and so is the rest of your family at the end of each day. I'm also a teacher btw and have struggled with work/life balance. And while my classroom is pristine and organised to the T, not so much at home.
ETA: the beginning of the school year is hard on EVERY teacher I've ever met. Cut yourself some slack. Students are learning and will continue to learn if you continue to teach. My first year of teaching left me frazzled because I was trying to do everything I've seen veteran teachers do. I was trying to go at their pace, wondering when I could get the level and amount of resources they had, thinking about ways to include their philosophies in my classroom, etc. I didn't figure it out until the third year that I'm NOT them. I'll NEVER be them because I'm me. I took what works for me and dropped EVERYTHING else. I did a few online courses that helped a ton, watched a few teachers whose styles resonated with me, especially Michelle and Vanessa Levin among others and treated teaching like any other job.
You're NOT superwoman, so stop thinking that everything has to be perfect before you're satisfied. Teaching is like fine wine. First year is not the best but know you will only improve. I'm in my 6th year and it's only been the last few years that I've really got a handle on everything, even with curriculum changes. I try to get all copies for the week on a Friday. For new curriculum, I try reading ahead at least 2 weeks at a time, sometimes, it's more, sometimes, it's only a day or 2. Grading is usually done with my daughter's help. She writes on sticky notes and I finalise everything after that. TAKE HELP. Cycle the help but when you're overwhelmed you're no good to anyone even yourself. And breathe. Be kind to you and give yourself grace.

You’re doing great! Family and friends always come first! The secret of teaching is that it is literally NEVER ever all going to be done-at least that’s my experience. One thing I do is occasionally (when I’m behind with grading) I just “check” off certain papers and give a done/not done grade. Put a check mark in the corner and be done! Another thing I do is make some papers “D.T.I.C.” -Done Together In Class. I have the kids write this on the top of their papers so parents know it was done together and graded in class. If kids are staring at walls and not finishing work, their grades should reflect that-and then encourage them to change that behavior. I tell my class one of my favorite quotes is “if you don’t want to learn no one can make you, but if you want to learn no one can stop you”. It’s very empowering when they realize the ball is in their court! You’ve got this! 😁❤️

Thank you so much!! I love getting other teacher input, especially those who have been at it a while! Thank you for the DTIC idea, I've already implemented that, such a great way to know what's what!! 🥰

My neighbor’s Great Pyrenees comes to visit often. So I don’t even have a dog but my floor is generally covered in dog hair.
