D’Angelo is in my humble opinion the greatest musician and songwriter of my generation. After not listening to Black Messiah for at least 4 years I pulled it back out and listened to it again last month and it was like hearing it for the first time. I appreciate the album and him so much more now. Like all of his fans I’m starved for a new album and tour from him. I pray he’s in good spirits and health. His fans will there when he’s ready.

He saved us with Brown Sugar and Voodoo, too. He is Prince's musical child. He could work with the damn phone book, and I'd buy it. I love this man, blessed to see him live a few times.

Everytime I watch a video about this man, my emotions flare up. I’m not sure if I should be pissed off, crying, or appreciative of the Art that he’s created. I need to see him live as I wasn’t old enough to see him prior too. Like dude, release some more music or at least tour for me please! We NEED IT! I know he lives a private life, which I respect, but come on man! I hope he sees this, music lovers need YOU Micheal (D’Angelo).

Well Black Messiah was step forward after his ethereal Voodoo Soul which was infectious. I'm still digesting from that album. Black Messiah is brilliant. The feel of it is enigmatic. The melodies are taut and his vocals are stunning in accordance with the musicianship. I did a small short on my channel about D'angelo for all the true supporters entitled VOODOO SOUL.

I’m so much of a D’Angelo disciple! People were wondering was Black Messiah gonna sound like Brown Sugar. His talent is superior that you can’t bottle it up. D’Angelo touched just about every genre of music in Black Messiah. I always say he made 3 classic albums. I’m definitely waiting for the 4th! We are waiting D!

“Built to last” - whoever wrote that in their Voodoo review was so right. And Black Messiah will stand the test of time.
He’s had such a fulfilling progression imo, I always find it fascinating that he lost a segment of his audience with BM (the ones who want him to go back to Brown Sugar). Thanks for your take on the album.

Its funny, i look like a metal head. Covered in tattoos, kind of rough around the edges in general white-guy. And when people ask me who my favorite musician/band is, they never expect me to say D’Angelo.
As a musician myself, im drawn to the excellent musicianship of the 90s soulquarian era of RnB.
There is not a human on this planet, cooler, or more talented than D’Angelo.

Every time I listen to this any song on this album I am reminded about what a remarkable album this is. It just makes me stand still and listen and feel in a way I don't think any other album does. Really happy I found this video. I remember the first moment I heard this album and I knew it was in a class of its own. Golden. Hypnotized. But D'Angelo didn't seem to be going the normal publicity tour route so most folks - even his fans - didn't know the album. It said so much. I listened to it nonstop for months. And I made sure I was in the front row when D'Angelo and the Vanguard came to town. So glad to see this discussion. Time to be listening to it again

the varied speed tape vocals was influenced by from Prince also. Prince had a whole moniker with tape sped up vocals.... called Camille. I seriously think D'angelo's music harkens back to Prince more than any artist. Other Artist seriously can't do what Prince did but D'angelo can, therefore he can act on those influences.

There nothing more convincing then when music convicts you to the core of soulfully and spiritually. D’s favorite artist is prince if im not mistaken. Those deep roots of our ancestors in those landing area of slavery are a representation of the creativity we entail and D covers it from the front to back. Peace family! #chosen #Israelites

First let me say I’m a musician and have been for the past 30 plus years. I am a fan of D’Angelo and his music.
This won’t be a popular opinion, nevertheless the album Voodoo wasn’t good to me at all. Send It On, Untitled were for me the best to records on the album. The vocal quality was in-distinguishable, arrangements were sparse. To call Voodoo a ‘classic’ is gratuitous.
Now with Black Messiah, this was the album that should have come out after the commercial release Brown Sugar. Every record on this album he sounded free! Free to be who he really was, Brown Sugar was clearly not who he was but a record label version of him. BS was a great album, but to me out of the 3 BM is the best.
Another thing I’d like to address, are we proclaiming his greatness prematurely? He has 3 albums? MJ, Stevie, Prince, Marvin all have vast catalogs that show the growth and maturation they had as artist and I’m supposed to crown Mr. Archer as a goat after 3? And he really has, out of the 3, 1 great album?
Love him as an artist, but I can’t rock with that. Out of the 3 albums I only listen to BM, I have tried over and over and over to listen to Voodoo and see the genius that everyone talks about but I don’t hear it.
    My 2 cents.
