    I would like to clear any potential misunderstanding towards the end. the 'rant' is more towards people who makes comments on social media especially Facebook the past day or two and this is not me slating any video content as I yet haven't watched any content from today's events yet and IF I am wrong with what I said like six months to a year in the future, I he happy to say I was wrong and you were right.

    As a local , your end comments are what i hear constantly , but if you live in Fleetwood it could save 10 mins in journey time , another factor which might be considered , if you live south , then a tram to North Station might appeal as from Blackpool South 1 train an hour , Blackpool North at least 5 an hour . It is good to see these trams make it up to North Station finally , now they need to tidy up the surrounding area by the tram stop , im told it will be a car park ... Oh yes , i wonder if the general public will get used to the 3 tram stops , im amazed at how many think the Heritage Tram Stop is for general use .

    Great video. You explained the North Pier, Talbot Sq stop situation better than I did 😁. I hope it's a success, but the timetable does need some fine tuning.
    100% agreement about "train station"

    I hope it is a success. It will certainly make it easier for people coming into Blackpool on the train to get to where we want to be in the town, without having to walk all the way down Talbot Road, especially if they have luggage. Thank you for sharing Simon.

    Good to see the extension to North Station open, but I must admit I'm not sure that a half hourly frequency is going to be sufficient, especially on busy summer days

      I've only watched Jen's video not long ago and I will admit, I didn't know it was that bad with the timetable. I hope that it does becomes success, but with the negatives it going to be a challenge. Sometimes there are projects that are done and not successful. Think Reston (But that not the station fault) and Thanet Parkway are two examples.

    You were spot on Simon. We will not know how successful it will or won't be for at least a year and the completion of jobs around the tram stop. Come to make the argument next year. At the end of the summer season. I really hope it works out and brings more visitors to Blackpool.

    Great video, Simon. The timetable feels too sparse to be useful. The thing that gets me, having watched a few videos about the extension - where are the real time displays?

    Many years ago there was a railway station and I think it was called Central station and which was very close to the sea front ,the site is where Coral Island is now.
    Why was it closed ? rather than Blackpool north. I think Blackpool counsel had some say in the matter at the time.

    • @Sim0nTrains
      @Sim0nTrains  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Station was called Blackpool Central where Coral Island is now, the original plan in the Beeching Report was to close Blackpool North Station and keep Blackpool Central open, However Blackpool Corporation had successfully lobbied British Railways for Central to be closed instead, in order that it might buy the land for potentially lucrative redevelopment.
      But the platforms that are in use at Blackpool North are the former Excursion Platforms as the main station buildings, train shed and platforms were decommissioned and demolished in 1974

    • @itsonlyme9938
      @itsonlyme9938 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Sim0nTrains Yes it became a car park not much of a redevelopment.
      I have been to Blackpool many times and it is a bit of a pain walking from the
      North station down to the prom.
      As a young child I went to Blackpool with my parents on holiday and got off at Blackpool Central I always remember the canopy outside the station entrance with the cobble stones.
      a shame they closed the station a bit of a blunder.

    Good video, thanks.
    Glad you are basically supporting it as, whether it's a success or not and I'd suggest that you need 3 years, not one, to properly determine that, it at least shows investment and confidence in the tramway and therefore could lead to other extensions or even reopenings in the future.
    I do, however, have to take issue with you over the RAILWAY station/ TRAIN station argument.
    It's a RAILWAY STATION. End of!!
    And here's why.
    1. We gave the railways to the world.
    We named the place you access them, a RAILWAY station. So it's first off, traditional.
    2. The "Train station " version is another annoying "Americanism " that constantly creep into our language.
    3. It's just lazy. One syllable, as against two. Pathetic.
    Okay, these can be taken as subjective. But the next one is the killer and can not be.
    4. The literal definition of a 'station ' is "an access point."
    You access a railway at a building. A RAILWAY STATION.
    You access a train by a door.
    So taken literally and grammatically correctly, a 'train station' can only EVER be...a 🚪.
    That's it.
    End of argument.
    Obviously which ever one you use is absolutely personal choice, but to be 1, traditional, 2, it isn't the British definition, 3 not lazy and 4, grammatically correct, there is only ONE option. Railway Station.
    Good video. Many thanks.

    • @whereinsussex
      @whereinsussex 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So you'd agree the place where buses hang out is the roadway station and trams stop at the tramway station?
      As your argument suggests that any kind of station should be naming the infrastructure (railway) and not the vehicle (train)

    • @JenOnTheMove
      @JenOnTheMove 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bus stations must _really_ annoy you!

    • @dancedecker
      @dancedecker 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Surprisingly, they don't, but I think that's because its not an."Americanism", its not lazy and it's what it's always been called.
      And of course the grammatical issue doesn't apply in quite the same context as there is no differentiation of what medium it uses.
      So it's not a true dichotomy.
      @JenOnTheMove
