This is one of my favorite movies ever. I also think it's the best love story ever. Dracula couldn't deal with the death of his love, so he rejected God and lived for four centuries, until she was reborn, so he could be with her again... That's real LOVE! " I've crossed oceans of time to find you "- that line gets me every time.
The film is just nonsense for female audiences in their escapist fantasies of love. It seems like their desire to get out of their ordinary and frustrated lives. The book is except for the supernatural part, it shows how a marriage is more realistic. Stoker based their relationship on his marriage to Florence Balcombe, offering a much better and more realistic development. We have an idea about a wedding in the Victorian era. At the end of the book Mina and Jonathan have a son, as do Florence and Bram Stoker.
It's interesting that this movie is one of the most faithful adaptations to Bram Stoker's novel. Seeing that Lucy has three suitors, I actually dubbed them as The Three Rs. Here is why: Cary Elwes played Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men In Tights Richard E Grant played Redferne in Warlock and Billy Campbell played the Rocketeer in The Rocketeer.
This was the first vampire I ever saw. I think I was 10 when I first watched it, censored of course, and I remember getting freaked out by the bat monster form, now I love the practical makeup!
This is one of my favorite movies... hate or not. Lol. I'm a new fan and I'm so glad you popped up in my suggestions.I love your analysis and commentary! You'd be really fun to watch movies with.
I remember watching this for the first time when I was 13. I was babysitting for a neighbour. It scared me so much, I ran all the way home, in the dark, looking behind me all the way 😆 Gary Oldman is fantastic 👌
Also Anthony Hopkins played the priest in the start of the movie too. And since one of Dracula's brides was actually from the transylvania region of Romania, Francid Ford Coppola had her teach all the actors that needed to speak Romanian, to speak Romanian. Such added an authenticity to some of the characters depictions. And in keeping with the original novel, Dracula met the same end by being knifed to death. I do agree that they should have had someone like Luke Evans play Johnathan Harker, rather than Keanu Reeves.
I went to go see this when it came out in theaters. The lines to get in were stretching all the way outside of the building. We were packed in like sardines in a matter of minutes, so I think some people had to wait for the next showing. This movie was a big deal, and I loved it.
Came across this video unexpectedly...laughed my ass off!! I enjoy watching the movie now and then; LOVE Gary Oldman and the cheese factor is good for a giggle. 😁
The soundtrack, bro! I loved the soundtrack, you were too focused on avoiding "Twilight" that you forgot to mention the excellent music. Thanks for the video!
Omg I have to watch this ! And even if it's just for Tom Waits alone! Love his short appearances like in "The Cabinet of Dr. Parnassus" (not sure if that's an appropriate translation, I'm Austrian) etc.
I've always wanted to read the book. (I saw this movie when I was younger...I'm 15 now...yeah I pretty much have ruined my childhood with horror movies)
Love at first bite was one of my dads favorite movies. I used to watch it when I was a little kid with him. So funny you brought that up. Also I don’t think there had been a better Dracula movie since bram stokers Dracula. I did like the new Netflix Dracula tho. It was a good take.
This movie was AMAZING and the 3 CD Limited Edition Expanded Original Motion Picture Soundtrack put out by La La Land Records is AWESOME. Wojciech Kilar was a genius, one of his best film scores.
Just finished the movie after reading the book. Surprised by how far the movie veered away from the original source but i just love Gary Oldman as the Count. And i can't believe they got Hannibal Lecter to lead them against Dracula! I'd rather be the victim of the latter than the former 😅
Saw this film for the first time the other week. I wouldn’t say it’s a home run - some acting is awful - but I enjoyed it. Kept imagining Dracula saying Gary Oldman quotes from True Romance. “Hheee maust hhaaave thought eet waz vite boi dae. Eets naught vite boi dae, is eet?” Score is amazing mind
"Her dress makes me want to throw a pie at her". And with that I have to change clothes as my coca cola came out my nose. This is why I love your channel, truly awesome and never fails to make me laugh. Thank you.
Funny story: The armor from the opening scene was used as inspiration for one of Kain's armors in Blood Omen. It's called flesh armor and absorbs blood in the air from enemy injuries. There's a nod to the film in the ending credits.
This movie was so silly. Especially if you've read the book. And why cast Keanu Reeves as an Englishman? Cary Elwes should have had that part. He had to get Arthur. I can't even watch the movie to this day. Gary Oldman as the hopeless romantic vampire still gives me the giggles. If you've seen the "In Living Color" skit with Jim Carrey, you'll know what I mean. The cornflakes reference! LOL!
I'm surprised you didn't mention the blue rings of hell when on the way to drac's castle. That's is significant to harpers shit show of a time with the drac! Suppose to represent the 9 circles/9 gates of hell. Eventhough it's for a couple of secs. Lol
One of my favourite movies ever. I had the vhs and use to watch it all the time! Almost know the lines by heart (in italian tho cause it was dubbed LOL)
I didn't exactly love this movie. But I can see why it is considered by many to be the best version of the story. Out of Nosferatu (1922), Dracula (1931) and Horror of Dracula (1958), this one stands out as the most cinematic version of the story. But I have to say that it gets pretty weird. Or very weird I should say. The costumes in my opinion while they have some nice attention to detail are a little over the top and silly looking. Don't get me wrong. Usually I want people to be bold and not be afraid to make something that might look silly. But not in this story. I just prefer Dracula wearing black as described in the book. But that's just me. As for Gary Oldman, I guess he was good. Yes, he was good. What can I say?
@@theNewBee i thought i was the only person who remembers that movie. I never looked at yogurt the same way after that film. 15 Gallons! New sub and loving the content so far.
Yea! You made it above 2.5! I do love Oldman (5th Element!!), but the Princess Leia Bla Bla look was too distracting. Only Leia and Janet Jackson on Good Times can get away with that hair!
I just discovered you and had to subscribe I watched your sphere review and now this one I think you are so funny a little goofy but on target keep them coming somebody here is waiting for the next one ha ha
I try. What usually happens is I get a request of a movie that I was planning to do, so I just move it up the schedule. I mostly comes down to if I have enough to say about it, and how much fun we can have with it. The list is long.
Great.. 😶 Now I somehow always expect someone to comment or make a pun during any cheesy sequence in a movie he reviewed... 🤔 Or some colourful aliens to interrupt the scene....🙄😶 UGH. Guess I have to find totally new movies....
Did anyone actually read the book? I don't believe Coppola did. The book is not a love story, its a straight horror story. There is no relationship between Mina and Dracula, in fact the opening of the movie is not in the book and neither is the Dracula can walk around in daylight part either. Dracula is actually killed by sunlight at the end and as you might have guessed the movie ending is quite different from the book. I do like the movie but it is very different from the book in many ways.
Keanu is talented, but his accent work is... wow lol. The movie does have a lot of camp but he was miscast. I wonder if Elwes had been cast in the role?
I've read the book, the movie is way better. The book was 500 pages of a people apologizing to each other in letters. Dracula is in the book for about 20 pages.
Yeah, it’s cheesy because of its typical 19th century tropes, but at least the book doesn’t resort to cheap extraneous romance that has no real place in the story.
That's how I knew Oldman when I first heard he was playing Dracula. It didn't make sense at the time. Now I know he's legend, but at the time he was LHO
This is one of my favorite movies ever. I also think it's the best love story ever. The film is just nonsense for female audiences in their escapist fantasies of love. It seems like their desire to get out of their ordinary and frustrated lives.

Gary Oldman is incredible. Truly one of Hollywoods best.
It's interesting that this movie is one of the most faithful adaptations to Bram Stoker's novel.

Excellent review, this is a great movie, I can just about tolerate Keanu Reeves English accent now.......but only just.
"this is gonna suck, and not in a Vampire way."
This was the first vampire I ever saw. I think I was 10 when I first watched it, censored of course, and I remember getting freaked out by the bat monster form, now I love the practical makeup!

Brilliant movie ... the animated scenes remind me of the legendary era of the czech animated movies (Karel Zeman, Hermína Tyrlova, Jiri Trnka & Co.)
The soundtrack, bro! I loved the soundtrack, you were too focused on avoiding "Twilight" that you forgot to mention the excellent music. Thanks for the video!
They dont talk that good of romanian , but i appreciate that they actually tried
They are not Romanian
It was obvious even to me and I don’t speak even one word of Romanian.
I fell like you missed a huge opportunity to do the Counts voice from sesame street when rating it
I recommend covering Quills at some point
'Why is it too soon to show
a man your ankle'
Best thing I ever read .
I love your movie reviews. This movie (and book) were what got me into vampires (now I'm obsessed with everything, except twilight of course haha).
Lee Harvey Oswald. Too funny. Is Dracula on the sixth floor, of the School Book Depository?
I’m not a fan of Keanu’s accent in this one, but I overall enjoyed this movie.

The girls are talking Romanian very good. Like natives. They are also good locking so they may be Romanians.
I've always wanted to read the book. (I saw this movie when I was younger...I'm 15 now...yeah I pretty much have ruined my childhood with horror movies)
Pretty deep dive on the corn flakes joke. Corn flakes were invented to try to curb sexual desire.
And Hopkins played Kellogg in Road to Wellville
Um you're so amazing and your reviews are amazing and um um um YOU'RE HILARIOUS

Cary Elwes should have been cast as Jonathan Harker, and given Keanu the Arthur Holmwood role!! Would have made the movie much better!!!
I saw this a little too early in life and the werewolf fuck scene gave me nightmares for weeks
I think Dracula's shadow scenes are an homage to the 1922 film Nosferatu.

Keanu Reeve SUCKED in this film. heh, did you get it, did you get it? actually i love this flick.
Yeah, the film itself isn't that bad, but Reeves was awful in this movie. It's like watching Pauly Shore play Claudius.
